BELLAWOOD 3/4" x 3-1/4" Select Brazilian Koa Prefinished Solid Hardwood Flooring

We Redefined Quality, Again. We set the quality standard by introducing a groundbreaking finish so tough it allowed us to offer one of the first 50 year warranties. Others followed. So, we raised the bar again. Now Bellawood is backed by a Certified 100 Year Transferable Warranty that covers you and generations to come.

One look and it's easy to see why Brazilian Koa is often called Tigerwood. Its distinctive orange coloring and brown/black striping make it one of the most unique and exotic species available on the market today. And its durability is simply outstanding, resulting in a "not-so-everyday" floor that will stand up year after year to life's everyday demands.
This product is proudly finished in the USA.

We caught up with real Lumber Liquidators' customers who volunteered to discuss their floor shopping, buying and installation experiences. In no way did these customers receive compensation for their kind words. (They're speaking straight from the heart.)

About "Select Grade" Flooring
Select Grade has the most uniform color with no large knots and the longest average lenght of planks. Also referred to as First Grade.

Crafted to a Higher Standard. Every board is milled to precise specifications to ensure ease of install and topped with our industry-leading scratch-resistant finish. In fact, quality control engineers walk over 12 miles a day inspecting each board, before and after the finishing process.

  • Q:

Is this material FSC certified? Where is it harvested from?
Asked on 3/16/2014 by Shellie from United States

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

No. While FSC Certification is gaining in popularity, it is only one of many initiatives designed to promote ethical forest management/conservation. True FSC Certification requires supervision or custodial of product from seed to manufacture which some of our vendors participate in. LL respects and works along with the existing policies of other Sovereign governments. Just as there are many acceptable strategies to cure hunger, for customers to focus on just one management entity is to imply arrogance, overlooking the "caretaker" management responsibilities already implemented by countries of origin.

Lumber Liquidators is committed to responsible business practices as a central operating philosophy of our company. To that end, our lumber sourcing complies with U.S. laws and regulations including the Lacey Act, which prohibits the illegal trade of wildlife, fish, and plants, including lumber.

In addition, we work directly with a select group of vendors and mills with whom we have cultivated long-standing relationships to ensure the legal and environmentally-responsible sourcing and production of our products. Our suppliers agree to comply with our Supplier Code of Conduct with Respect to Environmental and Social Responsibility which requires, among other things, that their operations and the products they supply to us comply with all national and other applicable laws and regulations for the countries in which they operate.

We visit our suppliers’ mills and forests and assess their adherence to our code of conduct and its protocols concerning environmental, labor and health and safety matters. In the past, we have stopped using certain suppliers because we were not satisfied with the credibility of their responses to detailed questions about compliance issues and we regularly decline to pursue business with potential new suppliers that cannot provide evidence of compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

All of our Brazilian suppliers are members of the government-sanctioned Sisflora system which tracks harvesting plans and timber sources for the timber industry in Brazil.

  • Q:

how resistant to moisture and cupping?/

    Compared to maple or walnut
    Asked on 12/4/2013 by dave

    1 answer

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

Cupping occurs when there is an extreme local moisture condition and a moisture imbalance within each board. That is...the bottom of the board absorbs excessive moisture and swells width wise, while the face of the board, with less moisture content, holds tight, providing counter width wise-dimensional movement. The weakest point for any movement is at the board's edges. Once the board's edges start to bend upward, cupping becomes quite visible. This extra stress and stretching of the board's finish can cause it to become compromised. The results may include objectionable finish problems such as cracking, peeling, flaking, or chipping. In addition, the structural body of the boards can suffer stress fracture splits on the ends or face checking. This is not due to any deficiencies in the wood product as the boards are manufactured dry. Thank you for your inquiry

  • Q:

What is the color of the finish/stain on this product if there is a stain? I am trying to match the quarter round to the floor to keep from ordering the matching QR at a much higher price.
Asked on 6/19/2013 by None from Suffolk, Va.

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

The color is natural. We have shoe molding available in this wood on it's page, otherwise we have paintable white quarter round or you could opt for a different wood species.

  • Q:

I have radient heat in the floors where I am installing this product. My husband is planning on gluing and nailing it to the plywood subfloor. Is this going to be a problem? I read in the installation guide that this particular wood could not be installed with in floor heat underneath, but this is the only wood that I like and would still like to try and install it.
Asked on 10/25/2012 by Alyssa from United States

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Engineered wood and floating floors (floors not attached to the subfloor) are most recommended for radiant heat. However, if you should choose to use solid wood for this application select species with the best stability ratings. Be aware that even species with better dimensional stability characteristics cannot predictably be guaranteed to perform well over radiant heat. Therefore, solid wood applications over radiant in-floor heat is not recommended nor warrantied. Because of the wide array of in-floor heating systems on the market each with its own features and limitations please consult with your radiant flooring provider for installation methods and application advice.

  • Q:

I want to put this in an office. There will be furniture moved and some chairs in the office with no plastic underneath. Will it scratch or dent easily. Is there another wood that looks like this that may be more resistant to scratches? There is a lot of sunlight in the room. Will this cause discoloration easily. I want something that looks this good that will hold up.

The room is 14 X 15. I an thinking the 5" planks. Do you think this size is appropriate for this size room.I am thinking of a herringbone pattern. What do you think for this size room? Thank you..Peter
Asked on 6/8/2012 by Peter from Green Brook, NJ

    1 answer

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

This material is our most scratch resistant flooring based on the Bellawood name, there are 8 layers of finish on the flooring which contain aluminum oxide throughout. If you using office chairs I would suggest the wheels are seamless plastic as the seams are normally what causes the the dents and scratches in flooring. In speaking of color change, that is a normally occurring process in all woods, and it will happen with or without sunlight, it is call Patina. The Patina process will be most visible in the first 6 months after installation and then from 6 months to 12 months the process will slow down and stop at about 1 year after installation. The 5" planks would look very nice in a room that size! If you have additional question you can certainly give me a call 800-476-0007

I have purchased the brazillian koa 3/4in, 3 1/2 wide product. What is the proper underlayment that should be used for a radient heated area? And, What is the maximum recommended water temperature that should be passed through the radient heating system?

      A:

Great questions; I would recommend our Silicone Vapor Shield SKU #10021412 if your substrate is wood. If it is concrete I would use our 6mil poly moisture barrier and our Elastilon underlayment.
The surface temperature of the subfloor must never exceed 85°F in any location.
You can find complete installation instructions on the product page by clicking on the specs tab and then clicking on - Installation Guide.pdf

What you should know about Elastilon Strong
An Elastilon-backed wood floor is much faster to install than traditional nail or glue-down methods.
Elastilon Strong can be installed on new concrete floors, handling up to 3.9% moisture content. A vapour barrier of at least 6 mil PE should be used below grade and on newly poured concrete above grade where the moisture content is above 3.9%.
Laid down with a 5/8” (15 mm) expansion gap, Elastilon Strong creates a dynamic, floating floor that expands or contracts naturally with the hardwood.
Elastilon Strong has no odor and is free of volatile materials.
      Elastilon Strong gives cushioned comfort.
1/8” (3 mm) thick Elastilon Strong has ratings of IIC 62 and STC 54.
      Thermal resistance: R _ 0,15 (m K) / W
Elastilon Strong carries a 70-year limited warranty. Thank you for your question
