  • Q:

We purchased your Schon Engineered Carbonized Bamboo Flooring and we love it. I am wondering is this bamboo flooring considered a "strand bamboo" which I have been told is the hardest type of bamboo. I would also like to know what type of finish was placed on the flooring and will it keep this beautiful finish over time.
This flooring is absolutely gorgeous and has changed the complete look of our house. I would also like to know what I need to do to keep it looking as beautiful as it does now. We cannot afford to replace our flooring every 10 years so it is important for me to know how to properly care for this gorgeous flooring.
    Thank you

Schön Quick Clic engineered flooring is constructed with a real hardwood veneer atop a moisture-resistant HDF core (high density fiberboard) which is made from real wood fibers that are compressed into a dense, impact-resistant format.
The veneer wear layer is "strand bamboo" and the finish is a UV cured urethane w/ aluminum oxide.
How do I care for my floor / which cleaning products are best?
Proper floor care precautions are provided on the product installation instructions and on our website under Flooring 101 by typing in Floor care dos and don'ts (LL pdf)
Thank you for your recent purchase and contacting us.
      Enjoy your new floor.

  • Q:

what is the janka rating on bamboo engineered click also the hardness rating and what is the thickness of wood on top
Asked on 2/23/2016 by john from cookeville tn

      A:

Janka testing is not done on engineered products.
Hardness is the same (when tested by Janka).
This product has a 2mm veneer thickness.
Engineered Hardwoods and the Janka Scale.
The Janka scale chart is not to be considered an absolute; it is designed to help people understand which woods are harder than others.
The Janka Hardness test is done in accordance with ASTM D 1037-7 testing methods. Lumber stocks tested ranges from 1" to 2" thick. (Resulting Janka Hardness Numbers are an average.) It important to note that no testing is done on flooring (but is done on "solid" wood species).
The Janka hardness test measures the resistance of a type of wood to withstand denting and wear. It measures the force required to embed an 11.28 mm (0.444 in) steel ball into wood to half the ball's diameter. This method leaves an indentation. A common use of Janka hardness ratings is to determine whether a species of wood is suitable for use as flooring.
Other factors that affect how flooring performs: type of core for engineered flooring like: pine, hdf (high density fiber board), poplar, oak, birch....etc... When choosing an engineered floor (other than the species) consider grain direction and thickness floor or top wear surface of the product, engineered hardwoods with thicker wear layers (more actual hardwood) will offer more resistance to dinging than ones with much thinner wear layers. The hardness ratings should not be the only deciding factor when selecting any hardwood floor.
The Janka hardness test is done only on solid wood products and does not apply to a veneered flooring product, engineered flooring is not solid wood and only the thin surface veneer has the botanical species on it.

      A:

Carbonized or caramelizing is not a top stain but a manufacturing process. Natural bamboo is placed into a Carbonized over. Once in the oven pressure, steam, and heat are used to alter the color of the natural bamboo stems, changing them into the caramel brown color.

  • Q:

Does this product need to acclimate as long as the solid carbonized strand bamboo. I was told that the solid carbonized strand bamboo needs at least 4 to 6 weeks to acclimate here in our dry climate. So now I'm thinking about the engineered bamboo.

      A:

Due to the excessive moisture present in a full bath we cannot recommend any of our solid natural flooring or laminate products for this application, I would suggest one of our engineered or vinyl Tranquility products. We have a 2mm peel and stick and now a 4 and 5mm click together products that can go in full bath areas or where moisture is a concern. Thank you for your inquiry.
