Q:In general, which type of flooring is better with dogs & children? I am currently looking at engineered hardwood vs laminate flooring and I am concerned with the floor being slippery & leading to injuries for both kids & pets. Of course scratches come in to play as well. Which is more durable? So many brands to choose from, which is recommended? Thank you!
A:Despite today's advanced technology, water spills, dirt and other abrasive substances can damage a wood floor's finish. Location, traffic patterns, how often the floor is vacuumed and cleaned, children and/or pets are all factors that influence wear and durability.
Q:How thick is the veneer on this flooring?
A:This product has a 2mm thick veneer.
Q:WHAT ARE THE OVERALL DIMENSIONS OF A BOX FOR THIS PRODUCT?
A:Please call our Sales Department Dept. @ (800) 476-0007 for this type of product shipping information. Thank you for your inquiry.
Q:I'm looking for a hard engineered flooring that will take the wear of dogs. Someone suggested handcut flooring. Is it all the same hardness Oak maple or others? My daughter has bamboo which is supposed to be hard and it's scratched. Please give me your opinion as to how to have the look of wood but also the durability. I don't think I want laminate. Thanks very much
A:I have a Bellawood floor that holds up extremely well to our Hound Mix, Pit-Boxer, and another young mutt and a cat. Not to mention nieces, nephews, and work shoes. Excellent finish. It's not scratch free but no wood floor could be with these dogs. Harder floors like hickory (41% harder than Red Oak) or exotic floors will dent less easily. 3/4" hardwood can also be refinished several times. Light colors will hide potential scratches. Remember nothing is scratch proof but some do better than others.
Q:Is Santa Cruz plank a 3mm veneer or 2 mm veneer. When answering a question you stated it was 2 and the specifications say it is 3mm. I would like to know before I make a purchase.
A:I apologize for the incorrect information.
A:Virginia Mill Works Engineered 1/2" x 5" Santa Cruz Handscraped Engineered technically is 3mm. But it varies though out the board because its a hand scraped product.
Q:We installed this floor and love the look of the floor, but it squeaks horribly. The squeaking is not coming from the sub flooring. Has anyone else had this problem?
A:Squeaking is usually caused by movement of the boards (deflection) and rubbing together, if you can stop the movement the squeaking should stop.
Q:why is the waste so high for this product?
A:After you establish your square footage in the rooms to be installed, add for waste and order that much. Enter in the "Your Square Feet:" box on the product webpage and try to round off to the nearest box.
Q:Does this floor use a plywood base? If so, how many layers and what type of wood?
A:Virginia Mill Works Co.- 1/2" x 5" Santa Cruz Plank Prefinished Handscraped Engineered Flooring has a 5 layer birch ply backing.
Q:Is this a floor that can be installed up a wall in a bathroom. It would not be exposed directly to water, but would be in a room that obviously gets moisture. Thanks!
A:I apologies we do not retail flooring that should be applied to walls, while we do have customer's that do that frequently it will void any warranty that comes with the flooring. If you are looking to install wood on your walls in the bathroom (high moisture and humidity) I would take a look at something that has the highest stability rating which is our strand bamboo
Q:what is used to clean this product
A:We can only recommend our Bellawood Floor Cleaner, or cleaners that are safe for water based urethane finishes. Never use any polish, wax, oil soaps or cleaners that add shine to the floor. Thank you for your inquiry
