Comments about Virginia Mill Works 1/2" x 5" Copacabana Curupay Engineered:
We has 1,200 sqft of this flooring installed in our entire house (living room, dining, breakfast, kitchen, and hallways). I must say I love love love this flooring! We did not install the product ourselves but had an outside contractor install them doing the glue down method. I live in the gulf coast where humidity is a problem. We laid down a thick moisture barrier (purchased from LL) and I have yet to have any probelms. We also own a dog (80 lbs) and a cat, and not have had any scratches or damages done to the floor. The dogs nails will leave marks, but everything gets buffed out easily with some cleaner. Because the wood floors are dark...dirt, footprints, and fur shows up easily. I do a sweep everything 3 days and a dry mop with floor cleaner once every two weeks.
I am impressed with the quality, the looks, and most importantly the durability of this product. If we purchase another home, I would be quick to use this same product.

Great looking product. Can't comment on durability, but the hardness rating of the product is very high and there is a 30 year warranty.

Comments about Virginia Mill Works 1/2" x 5" Copacabana Curupay Engineered:
The flooring actually is great. The problem is that the glue they sold us was very messy and impossible to clean up. The store personnel since told us they were having problems with this new formulation.
I've laid floors before with the "old" standard glues and they are much more forgiving. This new stuff runs out and stains the finish. You end up with cloudy spots that always look dirty. We actually had to lightly sand the entire floor after we installed it to get the cloudy spots out, but now it looks beautiful.

After I finished my kitchen I put sand grout in my back splash and moved my stove back in place and it scratchd the top finish on my new hard wood and I am just sick. what can I do to cover these scratches. it is only on the top surface. please help thanks.1 answer
A:
It’s very unfortunate, but scratches can happen with all flooring. Even the hardest species of hardwood flooring can get scratched. In many cases it is just the surface or finish on the flooring that gets scratched which can be repaired with many different scratch repair products. These products can be found at Major Hardware stores and Wood flooring supply companies. If most of the flooring has scratches, a screen and re-coat can be done to restore the finish. If a single board is badly damaged a board replacement can also be done to fix the problem.Q:
If I am installing 1369 sq ft of wood why must I buy 1537.47 sq ft? I am thinking that I would only need 31 boxes at the most. Please explain your reason behing me needing to purchase 33 boxes.1 answer
A:
If 1369 is the sq ftg of the area to be installed 31 boxes would not allow for the recommended 10% waste factor for this exotic species. 1369 x 1.1 = 1505.90- divided by 46.59 = 32.32.Q:
Can I use this product on cement slab? If yes, which method of installation do you refer? (floating or Glue down)1 answer
A:
Yes, this can be installed over a concrete slab but I would recommend the use of a moisture barrier prior to installation. Depending on which installation method you choose , there is a specific moisture barrier that works with that type of installation. The floor can be floated or glued and both are acceptable installations. Most DIY's choose floating for ease of installation and installation costs. Thank you for your interest in our products.Q:
Is this product suitable for an office commercial application?1 answer
A:
This limited warranty is valid from the date of purchase of the flooring up to 30 years for normal residential foot traffic or 30 years for commercial foot traffic.Q:
Is this a sealed hardwood? How can you tell if it's sealed or not?1 answer
A:
The discription of this flooring;Q:
Installed this product 18 months ago in a dry basement as a floating floor with Quietwalk and we are very happy with it. Recently had a leak through a window. Much of the floor got wet, but since the cleanup there has been no cupping or tenting. We have dehumidifiers and fans running but have some concerns about moisture trapped under floor even though it looks OK. Any thoughts or recommendations?1 answer
A:
Sounds like you are very fortunate. I would still recommend pulling the trim at the wall where the water came in to check if the slab and/or padding is wet. If wet it the moisture can escape quicker with the trim removed..Q:
What is the best underlayment for this floor? I'm planning on installing it on an upper floor with wood subflooring.1 answer
A:
I would recommend using 15 lb roofing felt over a plywood subfloor.Q:
Is this Curupay stained? Will the color change over time?1 answer
A:
This is a natural color product.
