Excellent wood!

By DIY'er

We just finished installing 1300 sqft in our main living areas - Kitchen, breakfast nook, formal dining, living, study and main halls and we love the results! Be aware that the plank widths vary by as much as 1/4" and so it is best to sort the various widths from many boxes before you begin. This caused some slowdowns until we figured out there were 3 different widths in the lot. Otherwise an awesome floor!

I was hell-bent on no "orange" since I just removed "orange-looking" oak cabinets. I made sure I selected a medium-brown wood from the store flooring samples. The flooring is not the color I expected/ordered, and I am still very disappointed. I am having difficulty selecting granite countertops, but making sure they have no orange in them.

This was the best decision to install hardwood vs. carpeting. We thought our dog was going to hate it but he too has become a customed to it after we put down a throw rug. The flooring is absolutely BEAUTIFUL and we can't wait to install it in hallways and other rooms throughout our home:)

WE COVERED OUR LIVING ROOM, FAMILY ROOM AND HALLWAY WITH THE CUMARU HARDWOOD. IT IS WONDERFUL COMPARED WITH THE CARPETING WE HAD PREVIOUSLY. THE ONE THING I WAS UPSET ABOUT, WAS THAT AS THE INSTALLER WAS FINISHING UP I NOTICED A SMALL CHIP OUT OF THE CORNER OF ONE OF THE PLANKS. I USED A COLORED CRAYON TO COVER IT AND YOU CAN'T NOTICE IT UNLESS YOU LOOK FOR IT.

This product is well worth the money. No waste, beautiful wood with some color and grain variations. T=You get what you pay for. The finish is spectacular. Overall quality is above excellent.

I am installing in the living and dining rooms as well as the hallway.

Very hard wood so a power nailer and new saw blade are essential.

Quality of every box has been great.

We're first time wood floor installers and installed in two bedrooms, will do other rooms later on. The tones in the wood are so warm and rich and with the variation of colors it pulls all of our wood doors, trims and furniture together beautifully. It's nothing shy of stunning.

I had a Lumber Liquidators installer do the installation. He did NOT sort the boards; so I have major gaps in some places. Spaghetti gets lost in those gaps. Even where the boards are the same width there is more than average shrinkage. Since I had it installed by a professional, the moisture of the subfloor and wood was all checked before the floor was put down. The subfloor was also checked for level. But my floor has a half inch variation in depth at some places. This is a beautiful floor. Rich color. But you need a patient installer. And it is hard. Probably needs to be drilled, not just nail gunned around the edges as it splinters. My installer used alot of wood putty, much to my chagrin. I wish I could enjoy this floor since it is so pretty. But the cons make it hard since they are noticeable every day.
Also if you are considering this floor and have pets, it is sturdy, but you will see every paw print. I wish I'd gone with oak.

Minimum of 3/8 ̋CDX panel thickness is recommended when used as an underlayment over an existing floor. This is to isolate the different expansion and contraction rates from the different floors, reducing squeaks and nail popping.

                      • CUSTOMER CARE

                        A:

Generally 1 to 2 weeks in the room to be installed however time is not the only factor. After harvesting, wood flooring is kiln-dried for optimum service. Wood is hygroscopic, meaning its size and shape changes with the absorption or release of moisture. The amount of change varies with wood species, cut, and type of flooring. Therefore, controlling wood moisture content (mc) is important for success. First, acclimate the new flooring inside the home in consistent indoor temperatures of 60°-80° F and indoor humidity levels of 30% - 50%. Using a reliable species specific moisture meter, measure the moisture of the wood subfloor and flooring. The difference between the moisture of the wood subfloor and wood flooring should not exceed 4%, or 2% for planks 3” or wider (See moisture testing) Continue to acclimate the flooring until you meet these requirements. The length of acclimation time is not the determining factor. The goal of acclimation is to reach a balance between the core of the new flooring with its surroundings before assembly, fastening or installation. Depending on your local in-home conditions the use of humidification/dehumidification equipment to maintain proper in-home environment is strongly recommended. Never install wood flooring in rooms or homes that are not climate controlled. Acclimation is the responsibility of those overseeing the project. Not following the above recommendations can negatively impact board performance and can result in excessive movement, squeaks, board gapping, board-edge cupping, finish and other related issues.

                        A:

The way a floor is treated or maintained can affect its longevity. In addition, there is no relationship between the hardness or denseness of exotic species and its resistance to surface scratches. Wood floor manufactures do not offer warranties of protection against denting or scratches, rather product warranties refer to milling defects and finish wear within specified periods of time.
While some finishes may claim to be harder, all top finishes whether Oil or Water based urethanes are generally listed as scratch resistant though not scratch proof. Actually, our pre-finished Bellawood and Dura-Wood is superior to any site applied finish. This is because site finished floors with only 2 or 3 coats require time to fully “air cure” which can be problematic on days with high humidity.
Our Bellawood floors are factory pre-finished with an aluminum oxide water-base urethane. Using a multi-step application process, (8) coats are applied to most domestic and exotic wood species and each coat is hard-cured using Ultraviolet (UV) light. Bellawood pre-finished flooring offers superior wear resistance and is backed by a limited 100-year warranty! Maintaining the appearance of any wood floor requires close attention to in-door climate controls during seasonal changes.
Wood floors like furniture will scratch and dent if not properly protected. It is recommended to use furniture pads (included in our cleaning kit) under the furniture legs. Pet nails should be kept trimmed and sharp objects (including high heels) kept away from the floor. Often scratches can be adequately repaired using liquid scratch covers. Dents and nicks can be filled using wood floor repair kits available at your local home store. If your floor is severely damaged please consult a professional about refinishing, an individual board replacement may be all that’s needed.

The recommended fastener for this exotic species is an 18 gauge cleat nailer (as covered in our installation instructions).
You can find complete installation instructions on the product page by clicking on the specs tab and then clicking on - Installation Guide.pdf
Unfortunately the only way to get rid of the bumps is to sand the entire floor down and refinish.

                    • Q:

Could the Brazilian Teak 3/4" x 5" be glued down to concrete slab?
I would use Bostik's MVP 4 moisture barrier.
                      Thanks.

                        Unfortunately not recommended.
This is a solid 3/4" product designed to be nailed to a wood substrate.
But can be installed over concrete using our Elastilon underlayment.
What you should know about Elastilon Strong
An Elastilon-backed wood floor is much faster to install than traditional nail or glue-down methods.
Elastilon Strong can be installed on new concrete floors, handling up to 3.9% moisture content. A vapour barrier of at least 6 mil PE should be used below grade and on newly poured concrete above grade where the moisture content is above 3.9%.
Laid down with a 5/8” (15 mm) expansion gap, Elastilon Strong creates a dynamic, floating floor that expands or contracts naturally with the hardwood.
Elastilon Strong has no odor and is free of volatile materials.
                        Elastilon Strong gives cushioned comfort.
1/8” (3 mm) thick Elastilon Strong has ratings of IIC 62 and STC 54.
                        Thermal resistance: R _ 0,15 (m K) / W
Elastilon Strong carries a 70-year limited warranty. Thank you for your inquiry.
