Virginia Mill Works Co.- 3/4" x 5" Saddle Hickory Prefinished Distressed Solid Flooring- 30 Year Warranty

Colonial American homes were built with wooden floors that were sawn using basic hand-held tools. The hand-crafted workmanship that went into those floors can be found in Virginia Millworks handscraped floors.
Natural knots of up to 2" thick may be present giving this floor its beautiful and unique character.

About Hickory:
Hickory greatly separates itself from other wood species by its great color variation which begins from light tan to reddish/ dark brown tones with dramatic grain patterns.
Its unique rustic appearance, the combination of its hard density and moderate coarse open grain, make it just as appropriate in a contemporary high rise loft as it is in a log cabin.
It is also ideal for high traffic areas and kid's rooms.
This product is finished in the USA.

Comments about Virginia Mill Works 3/4" x 5" Distressed Saddle Hickory:

This floor has a lot more variety in color then pictured. The is some black stain which is applied and can be heavy on some pieces, there is the warm red hickory, oaky hickory even pinky hickory, there is such a variety that it goes with all wood from dark to medium oak. We live near the beach and so dragging in sand and a wet dog was a consideration when deciding on a floor, this floor is tough, we have yet to scratch it and even if you did you would really have to look to find a scratch. This is perfect for a no fuss family who loves the look of a an older floor, but with all of the great finish work done. My guy had installed hard wood many years ago and while we did have to rent a nailer..but did it in a course of a weekend. No more dirty carpet, my house looks so much cleaner and is easier to keep clean. I am very happy that we put this floor in. I wish now that I had not spent the money on new carpet for the bedrooms, as I would not hesitate to put this thru my entire house.
    Good luck.

    Service and delivery comments:

I picked up my flooring, but the service manager was especially helpful. He let me pay for my order by phone while it was on sale and it was bundled and ready to be put on my truck upon arrival. I was told that lumber liquidators might be a risky choice, but found it to be far from risky. They were helpful and totally honest in opinion and direction. I bought my flooring in Auburn Washington.

Comments about Virginia Mill Works 3/4" x 5" Distressed Saddle Hickory:

Floor was relatively easy to install, suggest laying it out from your starting point.I started from the room entrance my first board was at the place where the wood met my tile floor.I also made sure my trim would cover the wood next to the wall in my case the trim width at the floor was only 1/2".I also used a block of wood to bump the boards together as some are a tight fit.Be sure to check your board fit before nailing at times I had to change boards for a better fit its wood and pieces can be a bit off. In my case I tried to make sure that the boards were even at the joints and in some cases would shim up one of the boards to ensure an even fit again its wood. I realize the Pros would say the floor must be off but none the less this was my experience.I did use the Adhesive along with nailing we dont intend on ever changing this out. The adhesive can be a challenge. I wound up just using my 2" scrapper to apply the adhesive again I know thats not the way they say to do that, but it made the job easier for me and it worked for me. You will need to drill some starter holes for hand nailing when you are close to the walls with your boards as the nailer can't get close enough to the wall.Remember to stagger the different lenghts of wood. One last thing is to start your rows at opposite ends so you wont be cutting on one end all the time. Hope this is helpful and not too wordy. Lou in Winslow Az

We hired a professional to install this floor. He did a great job with a very frustrating product. The floor looks gorgeous, but he had to tear up pieces several times because they weren't truly square or were as much as 1/8 inch off measurement. He said he had never had this problem with any other floor he ever installed.

We have this flooring in our great room, kitchen and small bathroom. We are overall satisfied with the product, although we were expecting more of the hand scraping texture to the floor, which it doesn't have. It does give the "lived in" comfortable warm look that we were trying for. The floor will wear great, because of the distressed look.

                          ACCLIMATION/CONDITIONING THE FLOORING
Wood products are affected by environmental conditions. Before installation, acclimate the new flooring in the areas to be installed 10-14 days for most dense exotic species or 2 – 7 days for domestic (North American) species to consistent indoor temperatures of 60°-80° F and constant indoor humidity levels of 35% - 55%. Very dry or humid regions may require extended conditioning. Proper acclimation levels maintained after installation will minimize board movement, excessive squeaks and gaps. Proper acclimation is the responsibility of purchaser/installer.

The floor was installed by professionals at our cottage. The floor has a lot of creaks in some spots and very loud popping sounds that happen every day, a couple of times a day. The planks have all cupped along the edges (sides not the ends). What can we do to resolve these issues? What could be causing these issues?
