After installing floor, noticed crackling sound every time you walk on it. This is going to bug me. I wish the store would have given us some tips to prevent this. After spending a ton of money on the beautiful hardwood floor, now I will have to listen to this.

this stuff tears so easy. when you are cutting it to size if you barely move the roll, its rips like crazy. the plastic used to tape the two together is way too noisy. we have to cut that off and use seam tape instead. I didn't want to hear that every time we took a step.

I purchased and used this underlayment under a Solid Ash flooring. I was sure glad I did. The product was well made and seemed very consistant size wise and helped a bit in leveling those little inperfections in plywood. I optted to use this instead of rosin paper.
One con is the price (vs rosin) but if you are thinking long term of it lasting decades to come with the flooring, the cost is worth it.
As an added plus the recycled content and it being much more green was a plus.

My nephew and I installed laminate from Lumber Liquidators in my living room, which has a cement floor that was somewhat less than perfect. The surface of the cement was pitted and varied in height slightly in several areas. This wasn't a problem with the old carpet because of the pad underneath, but when it came to laying laminate it was a different story.
After I removed the carpet we placed 1/2" plywood with caulking adhesive underneath, nailing the wood to the cement as well. Because of the numerous variations of the cement the plywood was still noisy so we screwed down the plywood, which eliminated most, but not all of the noise. We were under a time constraint so I was resigned to putting up with the odd squeak or crackle.
There were imperfections in the surface of the plywood as well, with the occasional recessed knot or thin crack, which is typical of non-cabinet grade plywood. In retrospect I should have used 3/4" plywood which would have provided a stiffer surface that may not have needed the screws.
The salesman at Lumber Liquidators suggested the Eco Silent product, stating that most underlayments, including the more expensive one that I had already purchased from a different store, were too soft, resulting in a floor that flexed and the signiture laminate sound one hears when walking on it. I bought the Eco Silent and returned the other product and I'm glad I did. I have laminate in a rear hallway that came from a different store and which has a different underlayment. That flooring sounds like laminate and will eventually be replaced.
I laid the new laminate over the Eco Silent underlayment per the simple instructions that came with the product, which promised a 75% decibel reduction is noise, a moisture barrier, and insulation value. The result is a virtually silent tread across the floor, and I couldn't be more satisfied.

A:
This is an excellent performing underlayment for floating flooring and is an excellent sound absorber. Quiet Walk and Bellawood Supreme are also good. You can compare them at a glance, type, "LL underlayment guide" here - www.lumberliquidators.com/ll/flooring/Flooring101
