Morning Star Bamboo- 5/8" x 3-3/4" Stained Solid Strand Forbidden City Bamboo Flooring- 30 Year Warranty

Morning Star Bamboo Flooring is one of the best bamboo floors on the market today. It is produced from old growth bamboo reeds that are at least 4 years old, thereby increasing hardness. Morning Star Bamboo Flooring creates a naturally beautiful and ecologically friendly product that evokes a feeling of luxury.

Quick Highlights:
- Real Bamboo
- Eco-Friendly
- Glue or Nail Down
- 30 Year Warranty

Strand
Twice as hard as oak, strand bamboo is an optimal choice for busy homes when durability is needed to stand up to the wear and tear of family foot traffic, active kids and even pets.

To make strand bamboo, shredded bamboo fibers are compressed under extreme heat and pressure.  This manufacturing process yields flooring that is even harder and more dense than traditional bamboo floors. Available in a variety of colors to complement and décor, all Morning Star strand bamboo products are finished with premium coating and backed by a 30 year warranty.

And, since bamboo is a naturally sustainable grass that re-grows spontaneously after harvest, you can feel good about making an environmentally friendly flooring decision.

It's simple...
Eco-Friendly. Beautiful look. Beautiful price.

I'll be honest, I did NOT do it with my handy husband. We are NOT handy. But we have a great contractor who knows what he is doing. I know that we purchased the tongue and groove, so it doesn't need to be nailed down. But my contractor used his super buff nail gun anyway to insure that everything stays there forever.

The color is like a brazilian cherry wood and it is so gorgeous. It is a medium shade, maybe a bit darker. It has a slight shine; but not lacquered. It is a smooth service. If I had the money and didn't already tile parts of my main floor a few months ago. I would use it in every room. It's that sweet.

Easy enough to clean, but it shows dust bunnies, dog hair and bits of stuff a lot more than the previous cream carpet. So now I definitely will be cleaning more. I accidentally made 2 slight scratched dragging a plastic box a bit while putting all the furniture and decorations back in the room, but it doesn't really show unless you are looking UP CLOSE

My contractor says that this should last forever. Maybe a few years down the road it may need to be resurfaced, but that's every wood.

Bad things: the floor is colder to sit on and it's a lot louder when the dog is barking, but that is the difference between carpet and wood.

Can't say enough good things about it. As my husband has repeatedly said, "it looks like a whole new room." Thank you to all the nice sales people at Lumber Liquidators. Now I just have to return the extra boxes we didn't use!

BUY THIS! You won't regret it. You'll thank me!

We had LL install in two bedrooms (11x12 each)and a hallway. The installed floors are beautiful. We will have to see how they wear but some scratches are inevitable. Get the scratch pen from the hardware store. We also purchased the LL floor cleaning kit. Excellent quality kit (maybe a little pricey, but excellent quality). Don't even bother installing over a floor that is not flat, you will not like it. Have your installer level the floor (we did). It costs more, but the results are quite visibly better. Scratches? I have already scratched the floor (putting furniture back) and simply used a scratch pen to fix. Don't over stress about scratches, they are not hard to deal with. Oh, and one more thing; floor leveling /installation is an unbeleively dirty process. Make sure to move everything out of the rooms, put up plastic between rooms for dust, cover rugs in traffic areas the installers will use, etc. Floor leveling (grinding) is dirty dirty dirty. Like any construction expect to do some cleanup. The LL team here is first rate. Installation manager Keith is a professional and communicates/organizes/manages the process. Install crew lead Robert knows his work, has a good crew, and expects top qulaity work/results.

          Beautiful, but not DIY

The floor is beautiful but be warned before you buy it that it is NOT a DIY product. Many pro installers won't even bid on installing this because it is very difficult to install due to the hardness of the epoxy used to bind the bamboo fibers The epoxy will bend nails, staples and cleats and the limited displacement ability of the fibers means that you get a lot of nails splitting the tongues of the product so you have to toss them - a lot of waste. Our installers even got nails ricocheting back into the gun - breaking it.

We got some dimpling even using the recommended 18-gauge cleat nailer. and the installer did not want to continue because dimpling is not acceptable to professionals. We ended up finding out about a new 20-gauge cleat nailer ($600+) designed to deal with these floors. It was the only thing that worked after trying every option we could find -- staples, 18-gauge cleats, nails, everything.

Also, be warned that you will go through a lot of saw blades due to the hardness of this product. Count on replacing them every 100 square feet or so.

If you hire a pro (and you really should with this product) - make sure they use the 20-gauge cleat nailer or you will see dimpling at the nail points after installation.

LL really needs to warn people what they're in for with this product in terms of installation. And they need to update their installation guide. One of LL's own installers would not come out to bid on installing this floor because he hasn't had a lot of success installing it properly. One serious option to consider is gluing rather than nailing it, but it will buckle if moisture gets under the glued surface. Cleating is better.

I used this product in all rooms of my house except for the bathrooms. It has really changed the space by making it feel warmer and more modern. I have a Weimaraner with a lot of energy who is constantly playing with his toys and ice cubes on it. It has not made a single mark or dent on this floor - it is EXTREMELY durable. The floor looks a lot like wood and I am very pleased with the result. I cannot say for sure, but it also is not supposed to shrink and swell as much as wood over the season change - this is a HUGE plus living in the south with varying humidities and temperatures.

          Service and delivery comments:

Our flooring sales person, Adney, was extremely helpful in choosing this floor. I would have NEVER purchased bamboo without his input on its durability and look. It was GREAT to have such an experienced flooring professional t bounce ideas off of. He even arranged for the flooring to be delivered directly to the house and it was in perfect condition when it arrived.

This was the first time I used the Quick Click Morningstar Bamboo product. I was very impressed by how solid the wood felt. It had a deep rich color and I had very little waste. Taking the advice of the installation rep. by staggering each board definitely gave the room a better look. I did my foyer and adjacent family room. Now on to my office in the spring !

Excellent looking floor, especially with 10 inch white trim.

Very hard wood which means it doesn't scratch easily, excellent for pets. Only negative is that you have to pre drill when installing first couple of rows because nail gun wouldn't shoot nails directly into wood because it is so hard.

My local store in Saint Louis was excellent to work with. When I get time I am going to help my parents home with installing a floor from lumber liquidators in their home.

Despite today's advanced technology, water spills, dirt and other abrasive substances can damage a wood floor's finish. Location, traffic patterns, how often the floor is vacuumed and cleaned, children and/or pets are all factors that influence wear and durability.

excess of water can damage any floor if not cleaned in a timely manner.

                            The planks are 37.6" long.
I use a 60 tooth carbide tip saw blade and always cut into the face to minimize splintering.

Is the grain pattern printed? (i.e., does it extend beneath the surface, will the floor continue to look good as it wears)

                            A:

This is a bamboo flooring and what you see is the grain of the Strand Bamboo. Strand bamboo is neither vertical nor horizontal, but woven pieces of fibrous strips. These strips undergo high-pressure heat pressing that produce a substantially heavier bamboo product. Strand can be harder than the traditional horizontal or vertical planks which resists denting well however it can be difficult to nail with nailing machines, 18 gauge cleat nail works best.

The top is finished with 7 coats of Treffert or Klumpp (made in Germany) highly resistant polyurethane finish with aluminum oxide anti-scratch and a 55% gloss.

The way a floor is treated or maintained can affect both site and prefinished floors.

                            Proper care will help.

For general cleaning a swiffer type system works best. Not one that sprays the floor however. Lightly damp is fine but never soak or flood mop your floor. Do not use steam mops. Have a no shoes policy as much as possible. Use felt pads on all furniture. Sweep often.

Bellawood Cleaner works well, find here - http://www.lumberliquidators.com/ll/s/flooring-molding-tools-accessories/floor-care-products

In addition, Bona Kemi makes a decent hardwood flooring cleaner.

Do not use oil-type cleaner of any kind.
