Comments about Glacier Peak Poplar Laminate End Cap:

We bought this to finish the look in our home. The original builder left no transition pieces in some areas and very cheap brass thresholds in other areas. The Glacier Peak Poplar Laminate End Cap really brightened up the rooms. Additionally, areas look much more classy with these beautiful transitions.

I used the thresholds at agreat room entrance, a bedroom and a bathroom. It was easy to workwith and install. Only time will tell about the durability of this product. it was almost like a hard pressed styrofoam.

I am not art all impressed with this product. We have used other caps that were much nicer from LL. It detracts from the floors beauty. Not at all happy with it. I will be replacing it as soon as I find another product.

Istalling the transition pieces were a pain. THe plastic snap-in piece did not work well. We ended up doing it a different way and threw that piece out. The actual wood is pretty and makes a nice, clean transition - just the installation piece was bad.

                  • Q:

What finish would you recommend for the counter top? I would not use the counter top as a cutting surface so can I use an acrylic finish? If I just seal it with oil will it be water proof? Can you set the sink in under the counter like you can with a laminate or solid surface counter top?

                      A:

Interestingly, products used to seal and protect Butcher's block counter tops are divided into two simple categories. Top coatings or penetrating sealers. Ultimately, the choice of which products to use depends greatly on the intended use of your counter top. Top coatings such as urethanes or varnishes are more for decorative table top aesthetics. Penetrating sealers such as Tung nut oil, linseed or mineral oils actually seep into wood cells preserving and condition it. Penetrating sealers offer more versatile usage of Butcher's block counter tops allowing for safe food FDA type preparation, easy repairs and can be buffed to a gloss with a build up of 5 or more layers. Do not use vegetable oils as they break down becoming rancid.

This is an 4 inch tall x 8 foot long "backsplash". So no it could not.

Yes it could but you may need to trim out under the edge to cover the old counter top.

I am looking for a 60in wide by 36in deep butcher block top. Do you sell any this size? If not where would you suggest looking? Thanks.

Our butcher block tops are 1 1/2 x 25 x8 or 12ft...you can connect 2 pieces to be deeper. I am not certain where you can puchase other than the big box stores.
