About Engineered Flooring:
Hardwood veneer layers are stacked on one another, with the grain of the adjacent layers oriented perpendicular to each other.
Because wood expands and contracts in the direction of the grain, one layer stabilizes the next, resulting in a product that is less susceptible to the effects of moisture & temperature change.

  • Q:

Can this product be sanded and re-finished? I am looking to re-finish to a darker stain.
Asked on 2/22/2016 by Amy from Dublin, OH

      A:

This engineered product has a 1.8mm thick veneer wear layer and is too thin for a "full" sand & finish.
Full refinishing will take slightly under a 1/32" off the veneer of the wood flooring. The thickness of the veneer and how much wear and dents a floor has will determine how many times it can be refinished.
To restore the original shine of an engineered floor a screen and re-coat may be all that is needed.
A professional sand and finish expert would have to make the determination on site on which sanding process will be needed or which can be done to restore the floors shine.

      This product is cabin grade.
SUMMARY/DETAILED: Cabin Grade flooring is material that did not meet our standards for 1st quality product. Cabin grade products will include variable amounts of milling, grading, and/or finishing defects; however, such imperfections should still provide a serviceable floor. The 10 year warranty is a limited finish wear warranty and does not cover milling, grading, and/or finishing defects that must be worked around during installation as necessary.

Cabin, tavern, or utility grade hardwood can provide a low-cost option in hardwood. When purchasing this grade be sure to add 20%-25% to complete the project.

Easy Floating "Click-Together" installation (if floated will need a supporting cushion and moisture barrier if over concrete) - This product can also be Glued or Stapled Down 'according to the manufacturer.

  • Q:

I am looking for flooring for an indoor/outdoor room that is located on a deck above water. About once a year we get an inch or so of water that receeds within 24 hours. Currently we have indoor/outdoor carpeting but I would really like a smooth floor that can be easily mopped. Because of the flooding situation, I simply plan to replace the flooring about every 2 years (this is a restaurant) and I just build that cost into my budget. If the engineered wood gets flooded, is it toast immediately or will it dry out and still be presentable or will it warp and peel? Any other suggestions besides the carpet which gets filthy too quickly?

Trex decking would be the best choice and wouldn't require replacing. All our products would be damaged from water. Or you could use fir, cedar, or redwood decking and treat with Cedarshield preservative for decks and docks.

  • Q:

what is the durability of this flooring? I was told to STAY away from laminate because I have kids and one scratch and you can't repair it. this is actual wood just the top layer?

      A:

If you have children and/or pets the best laminate you can purchase is a 12MM, that is our thickest line and holds up very nicely to high traffic areas and would work very well for you - this material is 1/2" thick. Laminate mateirals do not actually contain any real solid hardwood at all, they are constructed of a MDF core and a very high resolution photograph of wood on top, this is the construction of all laminates in the industry, let us know if you have other questions
