R.L. Colston-3/4" x 2-1/4 Hickory Unfinished has a tongue and groove profile. The "Square Edge" refers to the top edge treatment, for example most pre-finished flooring has a beveled edge.

Unfinished Hickory is fine in a kitchen however the finish you choose will determine how well it holds up. Our pre-finished hickory will work well. Today's hardwood finishes are most durable and are applied in a quality controlled environment. We offer several pre-finish coatings, whereas most site-finished floors -sanded and finished at the job site- would only have two or three coats applied, then these must be air dried.

There are more advantages than disadvantages of pre-finished materials. Nearly all pre-finished hardwood floors will have beveled edges to some extent. On the other hand, site finished flooring will have more types of finish choices and a flawless uniform appearance when sanded. Many people with health concerns or respiratory issues choose pre-finished floors because these are installed without the usual sanding dust and fumes commonly associated with site finished floors. Another benefit is that these can be installed and walked on the same day!

Our Bellawood floors are factory pre-finished with an aluminum oxide water-base urethane using a multi-step application process. (8) coats are applied to most domestic and exotic wood species and each coat is hard-cured using Ultraviolet (UV) light. Bellawood pre-finished flooring offers superior wear resistance and is backed by a limited 100-year warranty! Maintaining the appearance of any wood floor requires close attention to in-door climate controls during seasonal changes.

This is an unfinished wood product and will need to be sanded and finished after installation.
We can only recommend our Bellawood Floor Cleaner, or cleaners that are safe for water based urethane finishes. Never use any polish, wax, oil soaps or cleaners that add shine to the floor.
Resurfacing will depend on the amount on wear in your home.

What is managed forestry? Flooring mills must submit harvesting plans to the local government for approval. As a part of this process, they map and grid the land affected and take an inventory of the trees (size and species) in each grid. The government will then approve the plan and the mills must cut to it. There are limitations on the number and size of each species that can be harvested from each grid and then they must move to the next grid. Once a grid is harvested, they cannot go back there until 30 years has passed. Most mills will participate in re-foresting (planting new) even though they are not required to.
