About Morning Star Bamboo:
By harvesting only "old growth" bamboo, we are able to provide flooring with increased hardness, so it will better withstand the rigors of everyday life in your home. Our factory-applied SEVEN-LAYER TOP COAT FINISH includes two layers of tough, SCRATCH-RESISTANT aluminum oxide.

About Bamboo:
Bamboo floors' popularity has increased over the past few years as people have become more aware of the fragile state of the environment.
Because it is a grass rather than a wood, it grows far more quickly than a tree. The plant's extensive root system continually grows underground and it replenishes itself naturally, as grass does.
New growth, which springs out of the ground and can mature up to 24" in  24 hours and unlike trees, bamboo will regenerate quickly, making it a renewable resource.

Carbonized Bamboo: Steamed bamboo, caramelizing the sugar within, to change its color.

Did you know?
An estimated 60-70 million Americans are affected by house dust, which can cause itchy eyes, sneezing, rashes, breathing difficulty and sinus trouble because of trapped pollens and molds in carpets, upholstery and curtains.
Not even frequent vacuuming will eliminate those microscopic troublemakers.

Another good reason to go green with Morning Star Bamboo!

  • Q:

Hello, I am going to help my mom install a wood floor. We are thinking about using the horizontal carbonized bamboo. The room is small (about 9x9) and currently has tiles of linoleum that she cannot get off. Is it okay to install over these? If so, should we still lay a vapor barrier directly under the wood? Also, I believe there is plywood under the linoleum. Thank you

      A:

Unfortunately installing directly over; ASPHALT TILE, VCT VINYL TILES and CUSHION VYNYL is not recommended.
You could put down a layer of 3/8" min CDX plywood and then install your bamboo flooring.
You can find complete installation instructions on the product page by clicking on the installation tab and then clicking on - Installation Guide.pdf
      Thank you for writing in.

  • Q:

I moved into a home with this flooring and was trying to clean it and polish it, now it looks like it has a film on it. The product I was using was Bona; I've used it on my oak flooring before. How can I get the shine back and not get a residue look?
Asked on 6/25/2014 by New home owner from northern Colorado

      A:

To restore the original shine of a solid hardwood, bamboo, cork, and engineered floor a screen and re-coat may be needed or a complete refinishing. A professional sand and finish expert would have to make the determination on site on which sanding process will be needed or which can be done to restore the floors shine. Not all engineered floors can be refinished because of having a thin veneer layer.
      Thank you for your inquiry.

  • Q:

How would the Bamboo/Cork flooring hold up in a kitchen?
Asked on 4/24/2014 by David from Wallace, ID

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Yes bamboo or cork is a good choice for kitchens but we highly recommend you put a throw rug by the sink because an excess of water can damage any floor. Like hardwood flooring, spills should be toweled dry promptly. Strand type bamboo is a very hard and dent resistant flooring material and is a good consideration for kitchens because of high traffic. Bellawood and Morning Star Bamboo brand has a quality finish that would be necessary in a high traffic area like a kitchen.

  • Q:

How does the material hold up against a dogs claws. Will it scratch up the finish. Also against accidents.
    Asked on 2/16/2014 by Jim

    1 answer

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

Despite today's advanced technology, water spills, dirt and other abrasive substances can damage a wood floor's finish. Location, traffic patterns, how often the floor is vacuumed and cleaned, children and/or pets are all factors that influence wear and durability.
      Thank you for your inquiry.

  • Q:

Is this product ok to use for a kitchen?
Asked on 2/8/2014 by Mrsevil from Clinton, il

    1 answer

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

Hardwood, laminate (higher warranty laminate is better in high traffic areas like kitchens), cork, and bamboo is acceptable for installation in a kitchen, but we highly recommend you put a throw rug by the sink because an excess of water can damage any floor. These floorings are water resistant relative to normal spills but not water-proof. Any soaking spills will destroy any flooring with the exception of ceramic or stone tile. Thank you for your inquiry.

  • Q:

Can bamboo flooring be used in a bathroom?
    Asked on 1/10/2014 by Burly

    1 answer

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

Due to the excessive moisture present in a full bath we cannot recommend any of our solid natural flooring or laminate products for this application, I would suggest one of our vinyl Tranquility products. We have a 2mm peel and stick and now a 4 and 5mm click together products that can go in full bath areas or where moisture is a concern. Thank you for your inquiry.

  • Q:

Can this floor be used on a three season enclosed porch that is above grade and well ventilated underneath? Temperature here can go to 10 below zero F in the winter.
Asked on 11/30/2013 by twon from Plattsburg, NY

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

No. This as well as solid, engineered, cork, laminate, and even vinyl flooring require climate control.

Urethane finish can't handle the dimensional changes that take place with extreme environmental shifts, HOWEVER you can use an unfinished hardwood (preferably quarter/rift sawn) finished with tung or other natural oils as with covered porch flooring. These site finished penetrating sealers expand and contract with the flooring without cracking.
