Dream Home Insulayment

Multi-purpose underlayment with 100 square feet per roll.

Insulayment is perfect for glued-down, nailed hardwood or engineered wood floors.  It insulates sound* and cushions floors.  It helps keep floors warm in winter and cool in the summer. All this with the added benefit of an antimicrobial structure.  Meets or exceeds most condo associations' sound proofing requirements.

Used under glue-down or nail-down Solid and Engineered Hardwood flooring. Approved for use over radiant heated flooring.

*In order for any isolation barrier to be effective a certain amount of compressibility is required. Although the compression resistance and density are higher than most isolation barriers a certain amount of deflection is to be expected when installing a glue-down or nail-down flooring type. This deflection may cause a mild friction "floor noise", especially in nail-down applications. A minimal amount of "Floor Noise" is not considered a flooring defect.

Please note this product is not recommended for nail-down applications where engineered or solid hardwood flooring is less than 3/8" thick.

Used this as underlayment for 3/4" hardwood floor. It was fairly easy to cut with a razor know and easy to install. We only used it to cut down on noise since it is our master bedroom. Haven't yet determined how much it has really helped yet.

Something changed in the last few years with this product. It works fine, but I noticed it is not as tightly pressed as before. This allows it to deform easier when installing.
The product is fine anyway. It just seemed obvious that some cost cutting has happened at the manufacturer.

I'm sure the guys at my local LL thought that my order was crazy since I was buying utility grade oak with high quality underlayment. It's worth it to invest in the foundation by screwing down the subfloor and getting high quality underlayment. I live in an 1800's schoolhouse with floors that creaked with every single step. After ripping up the glued down carpet and placing this underlayment there is no sound when the floor is walked on. This gave me good security for the utility grade oak that was a very honest choice to keep the floors of this beautiful old building looking original. The one suggestion I do have goes against something else another reviewer recommended. They recommended having the underlayment overlap by three inches and place duct tape. With my 3.25 inch planks, this caused the wood to ripple a bit right where the underlayment was layered. In other rooms I changed course by laying the rows side by side and using a manual stapler I've used for upholstery projects.

Takes no time at all to install. The best part is that if something comes up and you're not able to install your floor immediately, once the padding is down, it looks like you've done a full days work. :)

Rolled out easily. Tacked down at corners with staple gun to hold in place.
Initially, I thought there was an issue because one side looked shiny/slick while the other side looked a little different. Checked the product paperwork and there was no mention of one side vs. the other.
Worked great. No complaints. Dampens sound.

I'm in the process of installing 1,000sf of 1/2 engineered flooring. We decided last minute to float the floor and only glue the tongue and groove. Is this going to be a problem with this underlayment? I see in the specs it has instructions for a floating floor but I also see that it's suggested for a glue down or nail down application.

The flooring (7"-3/8" engineered) I want to put down requires that it be glued down, for all practical purposes. I am assuming that I would put this down between my wood subfloor and wood underlayment. Or would I put it on top of my wood underlayment and glue my flooring to it???

I'm easily confused and it would seem to me that if I glued to the Insulayment, that the floor would effectively float. BTW: I hate gluing floor!!!

For gluing down an engineered floor over this pad you will need to glue the pad down first (double stick method).

It can work fine under floating flooring however you are correct, the manufacturer designed it primarily for glue-down or nail down installations. You would be better off with Quiet Walk, Bellawood Premium, or Eco Silent Sound.

We had Armstrong Allure installed in our basement, every plank curled up @ the seems, we were refunded. We want to replace the floor. What are the options for basement flooring, to prevent ?moisture issue/cold issues? We bought the Allure from Home Depot, and hired a contractor to install.

I am looking for an underlayment for engineered flooring that feels firm to walk on, not soft like many underlayments make floating floors feel. Does this one feel firm?

This is primarily used for nail or gluedown installation. It does compress slightly. Our firmer underlayments are Eco Silent Sound and Bellawood Premium Underlayment. These are used under floating, nail, or gluedown flooring.
