Strand

Twice as hard as oak, strand bamboo is an optimal choice for busy homes when durability is needed to stand up to the wear and tear of family foot traffic, active kids and even pets.

To make strand bamboo, shredded bamboo fibers are compressed under extreme heat and pressure.  This manufacturing process yields flooring that is even harder and more dense than traditional bamboo floors. Available in a variety of colors to complement and décor, all Morning Star strand bamboo products are finished with premium coating and backed by a 30 year warranty.

And, since bamboo is a naturally sustainable grass that re-grows spontaneously after harvest, you can feel good about making an environmentally friendly flooring decision.

It's simple...
Eco-Friendly. Beautiful look. Beautiful price.

  • Q:

For bamboo click, floating floor, the installation guide states a moisture barrier is required. It does not mention underlayment. What is the benefit of underlayment? I've read about noise reduction and a softer "feel" when walking across the floor. Is it recommended? Is there a combination underlayment/moisture barrier?
    Thanks in advance!
Asked on 3/24/2016 by Mark from Gallatin, TN

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

These are designed to be installed over a padded underlayment. Moisture barrier is only required under these underpayments if the floor is to be installed over concrete subfloor.

Appropriate underlayments (Bellawood, Eco Silent Sound, Dream Home Cork 3mm, 6mm, or similar)

Excessive squeaks and gapping can result from an unflat subfloor, using an unapproved or too soft an underlayment.

Underlayment cushions are optional for glue down installations.

  • Q:

Hi, we will be putting in about 1000 sq ft of this flooring. Greatroom, dining room, office, and entry. I don't like the idea of thresholds as I want a seamless look. If I read the instructions correctly I don't need a threshold if we glue the flooring down. I also think we won't need an underlayment if it is glued to our subfloor. Is that correct? Finally how much glue is needed for a project this size? Thank you.

      A:

      1. Correct
      2. Correct
      3. You will need enough to glue down approx. 1000 sq. ft., which means it depends on the adhesive needed/selected which depends on the substrate type & adhesive spread rate.

If we put this on our entire first, including the kitchen, can we put a protective coat on top in the kitchen area, such as a polyurethane?

      A:

You could reseal prefinished flooring after it is installed, but this would void the finish warranty on the flooring and create extra expense for you after already buying a new floor with a 20, 30, or 50yr finish warranty. Adding a new finish won't prevent all moisture from going into the seams. Wood will expand and contract with climate changes. If the flooring were to contract later and create seasonal gapping, a spill can cause water to get into the gaps. It is best to only add a new finish when the old finish starts to wear more than you like or if you have a lot of scratches you want covered up. We recommend that you use a professional sand and finish expert if you did decide to add a new finish to the flooring. Thank you for your inquiry.

How well will Jinse bamboo stand up in a kitchen area?

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

Despite today's advanced technology, water spills, dirt and other abrasive substances can damage a wood floor's finish. Location, traffic patterns, how often the floor is vacuumed and cleaned, children and/or pets are all factors that influence wear and durability.

  • Q:

Can we install this floor in master bathroom?
Asked on 1/15/2015 by im from cleveland , oh

    1 answer

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

Bamboo is acceptable for installation in a powder room. It is recommend to put a throw rug by the sink because an excess water can damage wood. You will need to wipe up any water that sit on the floor as soon as possible. However a full bathroom that is showered in everyday may not be the best location for bamboo. Often there is too much water on the floor or humidity that can be absorbed into the flooring resulting in board edge cupping. Resilient and Tile floors are a better choice for these areas. Thank you for your inquiry.
