  • Q:

can you install this over osb board or do you have to put something over the osb board

      A:

      Per Instructions:
      SUBFLOORS
All subfloors must be smooth and flat or imperfections may show-through
      Wood subfloors
      • Subflooring must be solid, well nailed, and free from dust and flexing.
      • Peel and Stick planks are not recommend for use directly over particle, chip board, or OSB oriented strand board. For a smooth surface, apply luan ply-board over wood subflooring.
      • Peel and Stick planks are flexible and will conform to irregularities in the subfloor. In order to achieve a smooth installation, it is important that the subfloor be free from cracks, dents and protrusions. All nails and fasteners should be set flush with or slightly below the surface of the wood. All cracks, dents and other irregularities in the subfloor must be sanded out and or leveled using a fast drying leveling compound. (Do not use gypsum-based patching compounds.)
      • Base subfloors in poor condition will have to be flat and firm before installing luan ply-board.

Can this vinyl be laid over one piece linoleum that was laid when we built the house? the only damage to the current floor are a few cuts in it from a knife being dropped and the refrigerator cut the linoleum when it was being installed.

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

      Terrazzo or Ceramic Subfloors:
      • Old terrazzo or ceramic flooring subfloors shall be treated in the same manner as a concrete subfloor, with additional precautions. Surface coating or sealers must be completely removed by light sanding or other suitable effective methods and shall be filled or flat to a smooth surface with latex Portland cement-based patching compound.
      • If these are to be used as a subfloor these must be checked for moisture and bond tests conducted.
      • Remove all sealer, varnish, wax, oils and soil to prevent bond interference.
      • Make surfaces level and smooth using a latex Portland cement-based patching compound (grout lines).

  • Q:

I've read the instructions included with this product and I'm finding the installation misleading. It recommends that you use TrafficMaster Pro cement sealer to improve adhesiveness over concrete. This product dries tacky so you can place the planks directly over it. The instructions then state that you need to use a poly moisture barrier before installing the planks which seems unnecessary after priming with TrafficMaster. Which one of these is correct?
Asked on 2/3/2016 by Jason from Wright City, MO

    1 answer

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

      Allow me to clarify:
Concrete floors must have polyethylene plastic film moisture barrier installed "between the concrete and the ground (below the slab)", not the concrete and the new flooring.
      Thank you for writing in.
