Virginia Mill Works Co.- 3/4" x 4-3/4" Knob Hill Birch Prefinished Handscraped Solid Flooring- 30 Year Warranty

Colonial American homes were built with wooden floors that were sawn using basic hand-held tools. The hand-crafted workmanship that went into those floors can be found in Virginia Mill Works handscraped floors.

About Handscraped Flooring:

Handscraped or distressed hardwood floors have a natural worn appearance. They look like floors from the days when floors were finished by hand.
Please note this product is a nominal 3/4" thick, but due to its scraping process the thickness may be as thin as 5/8" in the scraped areas.

Hardwood Flooring: We do it right!
Lumber Liquidators requires its flooring suppliers to follow a code of conduct which covers expectations for environmental, labor, health and safety matters.
The company also encourages the use of renewable resources, and prefers suppliers that operate in areas where the harvest rate is slower than tree planting and growth rates.

Lumber Liquidators' solid hardwood floors are a "green" choice in comparison to other flooring options such as carpet, which needs to be replaced often and is not usually recycled.
Solid hardwood floors sustain their durability and beauty for more than 100 years, making them a long-lasting and beautiful flooring choice for your home -without the continuous waste of producing and throwing out old dirty carpet.
Wood is a natural, renewable resource- and Lumber Liquidators is committed to doing it right.

  • Q:

I am considering purchasing a home from a builder who is giving me flooring credit so I can put in wood flooring after closing. There is extensive floor moldings throughout the home.
The builder suggested that they could leave space when installing the floor molding so wood floors could be installed under the base moldings with out having to remove and replace the base moliding. Is this accurate? Is this possible? What do you suggest is the best way to do this? I would like to buy and use your hand scraped wood. thank you
Asked on 6/25/2013 by jillsue from annapolis Md

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Yes this can be accomplished however the space will be determined by the thickness of the flooring as well as a minute space so the flooring can move freely under the baseboard.

Generally baseboard molding is installed after flooring to cover the recommended expansion gap. If baseboard in place you can (if needed) remove and replace or quarter round molding can be used to cover the recommended gap. Sometimes baseboard and quarter round are used together.

Note: You must not install trim to tight on the flooring or it may bind when the flooring expands.

  • Q:

What is the best way to clean VMHS solid knob hill birch?
    Asked on 5/7/2013 by Trillion

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

For general cleaning a swiffer type system works best. Not one that sprays the floor however. Lightly damp is fine but never soak or flood mop your floor. Do not use steam mops. Have a no shoes policy as much as possible. Use felt pads on all furniture. Sweep often.

Bellawood Cleaner works well, find here - http://www.lumberliquidators.com/ll/s/flooring-molding-tools-accessories/floor-care-products

In addition, Bona Kemi makes a decent hardwood flooring cleaner.

Do not use oil-type cleaner of any kind.

  • Q:

Knob Hill Birch 10011322, the LL site spec does not indicate glue down, yet, the LL pamphlet indicates that it can be, which is correct, can it be glued using Mapei 995?
    Asked on 9/19/2012 by Ken

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

Yes this flooring can be glued down, as these are considered shorts (under 36" in length). These should only be installed on or above-grade. Lumber Liquidators recommends 100% urethane flooring adhesives and moisture barriers.

  • Q:

I have several cats and sometimes accidents go unnoticed. Is this flooring able to hold up to this type of wear/abuse?
Asked on 9/13/2012 by Patti from Redding, CA

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

Despite today's advanced technology, water spills, dirt and other abrasive substances can damage a wood floor's finish. Location, traffic patterns, how often the floor is vacuumed and cleaned, children and/or pets are all factors that influence wear and durability.

  • Q:

Is there a sealant that I can use on my laminate flooring
Asked on 8/31/2012 by Mark from hamlin

    1 answer

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

Laminate flooring is a cost effective, attractive alternative to real hardwood but with certain limitations. Laminate floors are a mixture of resin and other ingredients applied over an image of wood. Although sealing the new floors is an option for laminate owners, it's not recommended. Laminate flooring is designed to withstand scratches and pressure on its own; therefore, adding coats and sealants may void the warranty, cause additional problems or easily flake off. Thank you for your inquiry.

      A:

This is a solid 3/4" product designed to be nailed to a wood substrate.
But can be installed over concrete using our Elastilon underlayment.
What you should know about Elastilon Strong
An Elastilon-backed wood floor is much faster to install than traditional nail or glue-down methods.
Elastilon Strong can be installed on new concrete floors, handling up to 3.9% moisture content. A vapour barrier of at least 6 mil PE should be used below grade and on newly poured concrete above grade where the moisture content is above 3.9%.
Laid down with a 5/8” (15 mm) expansion gap, Elastilon Strong creates a dynamic, floating floor that expands or contracts naturally with the hardwood.
Elastilon Strong has no odor and is free of volatile materials.
      Elastilon Strong gives cushioned comfort.
1/8” (3 mm) thick Elastilon Strong has ratings of IIC 62 and STC 54.
      Thermal resistance: R _ 0,15 (m K) / W
Elastilon Strong carries a 70-year limited warranty.
      Thank you for your inquiry.
