Morning Star Bamboo Flooring is one of the best bamboo floors on the market today. It is produced from old growth bamboo reeds that are at least 4 years old, thereby increasing hardness. Quick Highlights:
- Real Bamboo
- Eco-Friendly
- Easy Floating "Click-Together" installation
- 30 Year Warranty

Strand
Twice as hard as oak, strand bamboo is an optimal choice for busy homes when durability is needed to stand up to the wear and tear of family foot traffic, active kids and even pets.

To make strand bamboo, shredded bamboo fibers are compressed under extreme heat and pressure.  This manufacturing process yields flooring that is even harder and more dense than traditional bamboo floors. Available in a variety of colors to complement and décor, all Morning Star strand bamboo products are finished with premium coating and backed by a 30 year warranty.

And, since bamboo is a naturally sustainable grass that re-grows spontaneously after harvest, you can feel good about making an environmentally friendly flooring decision.

It's simple...
Eco-Friendly. Beautiful look. Beautiful price.

OVERALL OPINION: Elegant appearance; surprisingly strong and durable; easy installation. One of the best buys/price for bamboo that I've seen.

USES: living room and bedroom, (residence: Edwardian, urban.)

INSTALLATION: over concrete, "floating." If you have time, and don't mind taking measurements/cutting the planks, it's like doing a big puzzle.

LIKE: Kobra Klic Bamboo is one of the few flooring products that we investigated online, which actually looks much better in person. Underfoot, it feels great - better than we imagined. The dark brown color is rich - and subtly multi-toned (not reddish.) It's classic-looking and simple - perfect for Victorian, Urban, and Feng Shui decor - traits that might make it look out of place in house with rustic or country decor.

DISLIKE: Personally, there's nothing about this bamboo floor that I dislike. It's elegant, simple, and "green" - and depending on your furniture, it can be formal or casual.

P.S. Contrary to comments about other bamboo floors that I read, Kobra Klic doesn't emit a smell of any kind (!)

This was, by far, the best decision we made! The flooring fits tightly together and looks great. Already, I can see the difference in the hardness of the bamboo; I have big dogs, and there's not a scratch on it -- and I just installed a practically black color! Love it!

I put this product of the majority of my 4,300 sq/ft house (excluding kitchen and bathrooms.) It looks very nice and clean. I went with the floating option because we wanted it to be a little softer underfoot thanks to my 3 and 5 year old running around. It is softer but still feels solid which is nice (subfloor is concrete downstairs and wood upstairs - we floated both). We have had some challenges with the amount of swelling with this wood due to the humidity in Florida (particularly upstairs). It swells a great deal more than most wood and as such will buckle at the click joints. The problem appears to have been rectified by cutting even more space than the typical 1/4 of inch around the outside of the floor. This has proved tricky at door frames where baseboard doesn't cover fully. Hiding that gap has been a creative challenge. You also have to use T-moldings and the like anywhere it meets tile or other material because of this issue. It has only been a short period of time but it appears to be holding up from scratching well even with my 2 80lbs labradoodles (the Austrialian Cypress I had bought from Lumber Liquidators previously was demolished by these same dogs' toe nails). However, when it does scratch there is a noticable white line. Because of the dark color it does show dirt quite easily but that was to be expected. The biggest challenge with this floor is that I was unable to get some of the accessories in a timely manner. Just as in my last two experiences purchasing from Lumber Liquidators, the dates of arrival for matching accessory items seems nebulous to never at best and forced me to purchase some of these items elsewhere.

            Best Uses

This bamboo looks wonderful once it's installed (pretty easy install), but once you start walking on it, it doesn't look so great. The dark color shows all traffic and dust. The finish is cheap and scratches easily. The scratches are in the top coat and are bright white and don't buff out. Also already have a couple of dings past the top coat, into the wood itself. We've had to take out half of the installed floors to replace several broken pieces we found and all the planks were bowed and were difficult to put back into place. There ended up being a lot of broken planks in our 1200 sq ft lot. (We didn't buy too much extra as the sales guy said there are rarely bad pieces from this brand. Not so.) I love the color variation from box to box, very subtle and gives it a great overall look, but I'm so disappointed with the quality I wish I could take it all up and return it for something else. We are not happy with this product.

              large color variation

              By bob the builder

              from cin. oh.

Used in a large closet. 15x18 The color variation does not change one shade box to box. the color is either a 6 light and the others are 10 dark. No good way to mix them up. Large area rug covers most of the room so border looks good.

I used this product all over my downstairs--1000 square feet. It looks wonderful and was easy to install. I can't comment on wear because I haven't moved in but I have noticed it scuffs easily. However, I have been able to remove scuffs with moist soft towels and elbow grease.

Bona Polish may be fine however use at your own risk. Because we haven't officially tested it, you should talk to Bona for recommendations on how to remove if something goes wrong during the application.

                  1 answer

                  • CUSTOMER CARE

                    A:

Bamboo has an average hardness of some 1320 PSI when compared with Northern Red Oak at 1290 PSI, the standard as tested according to the (Janka) testing standards of the National Wood Flooring Association. Bamboo is a very dense grass and is therefore not held to the same hardness standards of solid wood. Published testing results vary greatly and merely provide consumers with reasonable “Product Expectations” before purchase.

In addition, the carbonization or steaming process of some styles to yield richer hues can reduce the hardness results to 1010 PSI, the approximate strength of walnut. Therefore true bamboo hardness can vary between that of Hard Maple or Heart Pine. Strand or woven products like this flooring are substantially harder, about 2000 PSI.

Taking precautions such as: applying felt pads under furniture legs, sweeping or vacuuming often, using rugs or walk-off mats, or even enacting a “no-shoes in the home” policy as much as reasonably possible, are the best methods of protecting your floors.

                  1 answer

                  • CUSTOMER CARE

                    A:

If needed, bamboo flooring can be fully re-sanded and finished about three times as any other species

A typical floor sanding involves using a special (drum) floor sander, edger, and a buffer/ polisher with a disc attachment for holding sand paper and buffing pads. The sanding procedure starts with a course to medium grit sand paper. After sanding the entire floor, repeat with a medium grit and complete sanding with a fine grit sand paper. This produces a fine surface and is ready for finishing.

However, because bamboo is a grass it tends to get “fuzzy”, “burns” or heats-up faster during sanding. Using a medium grit paper, approach sanding at a slight angle to the grain direction then graduating down to fine course, similar to sanding soft yellow Pine.

In most cases, a full sanding is usually not required, just a “buff & re-coat” or “screening & re-coating”. Buff & re-coat is light sanding using an industrial type buffer that removes surface scratches, cleans, and prepares the floor for new top finishes. This procedure really depends how the floor was used or abused. In general, high traffic areas; kitchen-dinette would need to be re-coated sooner than a bedroom or formal dining room. If your floors have been treated with any “non-hardwood friendly products” such as; waxes or has heavy wear patterns, or has lots of dents, then it would need to be fully refinished (Sand & Finish).

The techniques of sanding and finishing bamboo do require higher skills and are best left to professionals.

Here is the Suggested Sequence for bamboo sanding

First Cut: 60 grit paper at a 7-15 degree angle with the grain

Second Cut: 80 grit straight with the grain

Third Cut: 100 or 120 grit (CHANGE SAND PAPER OFTEN)

                    Suggested Sequence for bamboo Screening

First Screen: 100 or 120 grit

                    Second Screen: 150 grit

FINISHING: All surface finishes have been used successfully with bamboo. Darker colors will tend to show overlap marks. (NWFA) National Wood Flooring Association

What color is this? Brown or black? I want to put cork or bamboo in either black or gray in my kitchen and bathroom. There is just my husband and I..no dogs or kids. Both rooms have linoleum underneath and are on 1st floor. What products would be best?

Is this product durable to install in a basement application, below grade, on a concrete slab and is a moisture barrier required?

Yes this is suitable for below grade installation.

Tongue and Groove Bamboo - Troweled on Moisture Barrier on concrete. Always use the same manufacturer of moisture barrier and adhesive or combo type adhesive moisture barrier. You can glue to flat level concrete free of contaminates, moisture and sealers.

Clic Bamboo - A 6 to 8 mil poly sheeting moisture barrier should be laid for floating floors for an On or Below Grade Concrete subfloor. Overlap seams 4" and tape with duct tape. Overlay perimeter 3-4" up wall. Then lay approved underlayment.

For general cleaning a swiffer type system works best. Not one that sprays the floor however. Lightly damp is fine but never soak or flood mop your floor. Do not use steam mops. Have a no shoes policy as much as possible. Use felt pads on all furniture. Sweep often.

Bellawood Cleaner works very well, find it here - http://www.lumberliquidators.com/catalog/section.jsp?categoryId=19

In addition, Bona Kemi makes good and safe flooring cleaner.

Do not use oil-type cleaner of any kind.

                    A:

Despite today's advanced technology, water spills, dirt and other abrasive substances can damage a wood floor's finish. Location, traffic patterns, how often the floor is vacuumed and cleaned, children and/or pets are all factors that influence wear and durability.
