About Handscraped Flooring:
Handscraped or distressed hardwood floors have a natural worn appearance. They look like floors from the days when floors were finished by hand.

About Engineered Flooring:
Hardwood veneer layers are stacked on one another, with the grain of the adjacent layers oriented perpendicular to each other.
Because wood expands and contracts in the direction of the grain, one layer stabilizes the next, resulting in a product that is less susceptible to the effects of moisture & temperature change.

We had this flooring installed in our living and dining rooms. We love the look of the dark wood and the hand scraped finish. The only downsides are that the dark color shows dust easily and there are a few areas that creek when walked on due to the floating installation. Other than that we are very happy with our purchase!!!

Put this floor in kitchen, dining room, and front entry. Floor installed easily and looks terrific. But it does indeed scratch and gouge very easily . Have many areas now that have deep gouge marks from chairs and the chairs even had felt bottoms that we put on to prevent this. Only disappointment so if it is because of the thickness or birch just make sure you get a harder more durable flooring and even it cost a little more per sq'. Cause as I see it this floor will be ruined in a couple more years if something heavy drops on it, it's at the point where we are afraid to slide a chair out from the table :(. Looks beautiful though. Lol

Have not laid the floor yet, but it is gorgeous. Lots of handscraped details. My husband wants to do the entire 2nd floor of our home. I would not suggest placing it in a high traffic area or an area where pets reside. It will show every speck of dirt and hair.

Yes, engineered is acceptable for installation in a kitchen or a powder room. It is recommend to put a throw rug by the sink and tub because an excess of water can damage wood or any floor for that matter. Also you will need to wipe up water as soon as possible. However a full bathroom that is showered in everyday may not be the best location for hardwood. Often there is too much water on the floor or humidity that can be absorbed into the flooring resulting in board edge cupping. Engineered floorings are most recommended for these areas.

You will need either Foam Underlayment, Eco Silent Sound, Bellawood Premium Underlayment, or Quiet Walk underlayment for floating floors -
                                http://www.lumberliquidators.com/catalog/section.jsp?categoryId=19

In addition a 6 to 8 mil poly sheeting moisture barrier should be laid for floating floors for an On or Below Grade Concrete subfloor. Overlap seams 4" and tape with duct tape. Overlay perimeter 3-4" up wall. Then lay approved underlayment.

                                Yes it can, but;
For safety reasons these must be fully glued using urethane adhesives, do not use underlayments.
Click flooring can be used to cover a set of stairs but due to the overlap design of the stair nosings it would not be my first choice for a full flight of stairs.
We sell replacement stair treads, retro-fit treads and risers

                                Floating Stair Step Installations:

You will need to cut off the existing overhanging nosing on each step first.

                                1. Starting from the bottom of the staircase working up, cut the stair riser to match the height and width of the step.

                                2. Cut the flooring to length and width for each tread. An additional "filler" piece of flooring must be added to the back of the flooring.
                                (Nail and glue for safety,)
                                3. The Overlap Stair Nosing is then installed to cover the riser and laminate on step.
                                (Nail and glue for safety,)
                                4. The Steps and Risers should be attached by direct gluing to the stair using 100% urethane construction adhesive.
                                (For safety, omit all padding).

TIP; fit and adjust each step before gluing.
                                Thank you for your inquiry.

Does the mayflower 3/8" engineered flooring have the padding already installed on the pieces?
