Comments about Virginia Mill Works 3/4" x 4-3/4" Matterhorn Birch Handscraped:
There were only 2 main lengths out of 7 boxes(35.5" & 19.2") maybe a dozen pieces overall of other lengths.Ends bevels could be smaller & smoother. Wood filler on chips or knots was an odd color almost like "bondo" and not even close to wood tone. The hand scraped effect was well done though. From one piece to the other it flowed well almost as if it was done in place, a nice detail.Store employees were great to deal with and helpful.

Comments about Virginia Mill Works 3/4" x 4-3/4" Matterhorn Birch Handscraped:
I had it professionally installed. The installer was extremely frustrated as the width of each piece varies, even within the same box. Even after carefully trying and matching up things there were several places we had gaps. I purchased the product based on the looks, but not happy when all said and done. I wouldn't buy it next time.

Comments about Virginia Mill Works 3/4" x 4-3/4" Matterhorn Birch Handscraped:
We had this product professionally installed. We had purchased the same flooring for a bedroom a couple years ago and had no problems, this time though, using the same installers, was a nightmare. LL gave us flooring from 2 different lots, 2 of the boxes were from 2010. The boards were not the same width as the boxes from 2012 so as they were installing the floor wasn't lining up correctly, 2 boxes had to be ripped out. We called LL and they only had one box in stock and it was a box we had returned becaused it was damaged. We had no choice but to go get the damaged box, which they made us pay for even though we had 2 defective boxes we couldnt use. So the floor is beautiful but beware of the lots.

Be aware that the 4.75" width varies up to 1/8" narrower than 4.75" and up to 1/8" wider than 4.75". This causes gaps on the next row . Sometimes the width varies along the length of the same piece. To keep gaps from occurring from row to row measure the width of each piece and sort the pieces into 3 piles; normal 4.75, wide and narrow. When you have enough pieces to do a row then install them.

Used the floor in Master bedroom at my mountain cabin. 100% improvement, since I was just walking on the subfloor for 5 years without a good floor. The birch has such beautiful grain and color. I bought enough flooring to do a den in my cabin. next project.
Service and delivery comments:
Had to wait 2-3 weeks for delivery, but I was not in a rush for the flooring.Arrived in good condition.

Comments about Virginia Mill Works 3/4" x 4-3/4" Matterhorn Birch Handscraped:
Installed this floor in circa 1880s cottage home.. nothing square or level... with patience this floor with cork underlayment can accommodate some minor subsurface undulations.
Installed 19 boxes in +-2 weeks... The color is light, the finish textural and the appearance is very similar to hickory without the extreme dark/light board variations. Boards have lots of stable knots and growth rings very very attractive w/o being visually busy. Highly recommended if you appreciate the knotty pine look without the softness of a conifer.

Comments about Virginia Mill Works 3/4" x 4-3/4" Matterhorn Birch Handscraped:
This floor is beautiful. And my wife loves it. My only concerns with it are that it is soft. I was able to brake a piece in two with my hands. I always remember Birch to be a little harder than that. Maybe this is a softer version. Also the installation was a little tough because I had to measure the width of each piece as there were three different widths. (Anywhere from 4 3/4s to 4 7/8th. As you can imagine this took quite some time. But if you are patient, you will end up with a beautiful floor. I almost gave a three because of the above issues, but the floor is very beautiful and my wife is happy. And if ma ma is happy, every body is happy.

Q:
can this product be layer in a herringbone pattern? We have some experience laying wood floor using staples. is there a different wood product that would be better?1 answer
A:
Unfortunately not as this is a random length product.Q:
Can you install this in a bathroom where it is subject to water1 answer
A:
Due to the excessive moisture present in a full bath we cannot recommend any of our natural flooring or laminate products for this application, I would suggest one of our vinyl Tranquility products. We have a 2mm peel and stick and now a 4mm click together product that can go in full bath areas or where moisture is a concern. Thank you for your inquiry.Q:
I love the look of this birch flooring; however, we do have several dogs. I have been told that Birch is a considerably softer wood than hickory or white oak. Does the finish have anything to do with it's durability, & resilience to scratches.... would you recommend this wood choice for us, or go with a harder wood1 answer
A:
Despite today's advanced finish technology, water spills, dirt and other abrasive substances can damage a wood floor's finish. Location, traffic patterns, how often the floor is vacuumed and cleaned, children and/or pets are all factors that influence wear and durability.Q:
May I use "Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner" to clean my new Matterhorn Birch Handscraped floor?1 answer
A:
We can only recommend our Bellawood Floor Cleaner, or cleaners that are safe for water based urethane finishes. Never use any polish, wax, oil soaps or cleaners that add shine to the floor.Q:
Best floor for beach house on the ocean with high humity1 answer
