Morning Star 9/16" x 5-1/8" Nantong Strand Handscraped Bamboo |
Quick Highlights: Strand To make strand bamboo, shredded bamboo fibers are compressed under extreme heat and pressure. This manufacturing process yields flooring that is even harder and more dense than traditional bamboo floors. And, since bamboo is a naturally sustainable grass that re-grows spontaneously after harvest, you can feel good about making an environmentally friendly flooring decision. I had my contractor install in my living room and three bedrooms... we ripped up all the old damaged 60's oak. I cannot say personally about the install itself since I did not do it, but my contractor did mention the hardness of the bamboo and had to read the mfr's recommendation regarding the nails, staples to use. From there it was a breeze. The Long lengths look great and I love the color, not too brown, not too red and the handscraped, wire brush makes it look antique looking, but to me this would work well in both older traditional styles as well as contemporary. I am very pleased with my purchase and I cannot wait to be able to move back home, clean off all the saw dust from my remodel and enjoy the new floors... :)

I self-installed ~200 sqft in our guest room and will later do the remaining 1200 sqft of our second story. The finished results look great. It takes some time to get used to working with this stuff as it is extremely hard. My jig saw was ok, I had to get additional blades for the mitre saw, the circular saw was bogged down, and my multi-tool started smoking a little. In the end, all of that is manageable. The width and length allowed me to fly through a 14'x14' room very quickly. I had to use my normal 18 guage finish nailer on the first row as well as the final 3 rows due to the proximity to the wall. I had a few bad nails, but nothing major. With 100 psi and max depth the finish nailer did just fine face nailing. The 50p is a must for the general install. At 80 psig, there were no issues.
So far, the flooring looks great. We had a few chips from the pull bar on the last few rows, but overall it is holding up well. It adds a lot of character to the room.
