I do agree with the previous answer that the thickness of the hardwood surface has a great deal to with the quality of the product and definitely impacts how well it wears.

However, I'm not familiar with Afromosia and wanted to know how it compares to woods that I am familiar with. Since I had to go look it up, I thought I'd save others the trouble, particularly the person who asked but didn't get answered.

The Janka rating on this wood is 2524 according to the information I'm finding via Google. As a point of comparison, Northern Oak is 1290 and Brazilian Cherry is 2450.

  • Q:

can you tell me what the veneer mm is on this floor and also the janka rating for hardness

      A:

The veneer thickness is .6mm. Other factors that affect how flooring performs: type of core for engineered flooring like: pine, hdf (high density fiber board) , poplar, oak, birch....etc.. When choosing an engineered floor (other than the species) consider grain direction and thickness floor or top wear surface of the product, engineered hardwoods with thicker wear layers (more actual hardwood) will offer more resistance to dinging than ones with much thinner wear layers. The hardness ratings should not be the only deciding factor when selecting any hardwood floor.
