3/8" x 5" Natural Hickory Wirebrush Engineered Flooring- 15 Yr Warranty

Quick Highlights:

- Solid Hardwood Layer
- Covered by a 15 Year Warranty
- Float, Glue Installation

This Mayflower engineered flooring is constructed with a real hardwood veneer atop a moisture-resistant HDF core (high density fiberboard) which is made from real wood fibers that are compressed into a dense, impact-resistant format. In addition to providing extra protection against denting, the HDF enables the most precise milling of the profile to enhance ease of installation and long-term durability..

We caught up with real Lumber Liquidators' customers who volunteered to discuss their floor shopping, buying and installation experiences. In no way did these customers receive compensation for their kind words. (They're speaking straight from the heart.)

  • Q:

I would like to install the engineered hickory as a floating floor in a high altitude (10,000' MSL) mountain cabin. How would the material hold up in a dry and very cold winter climate?

      A:

All wood products are affected by environmental conditions, especially prefinished materials.
To control wood movement- expansion or shrinkage- it is recommended to acclimate the new flooring in the areas to be installed, not in (garages, U-Haul trailers, sheds, or tents) to normal lived-in conditions while in the boxes. If the products are protected in plastic then open the ends of the boxes. Length of time is not the determining factor. The goal of acclimation is for the core of the product to reach an equilibrium or moisture balance of the new flooring with its surroundings before installation or fastening. This balance could be achieved in as little as 1 to 5 days, or longer for some dense or oily exotic species.

      Avoid shocking the floor.
Just like you, wood actually performs best with consistent indoor temperatures of 60°-80° F and indoor humidity levels of 30% - 50%. Very dry or humid regions of the country usually require extended conditioning. Maintaining the recommended acclimation levels even after the installation should be viewed as ongoing floor care. Your doing so will help to minimize board movement, excessive squeaks, finish cracking and gaps.

Hygrometers sold in most Target and Wal-Mart stores ($10-$45) can be used to easily identify the need to regulate the humidity or air moisture.
In addition, to prevent board warping or bowing, do not cut the plastic support bindings on the outside of the packaging until ready to install. Store products flat, in a dry place. Provide air flow under and around cartons. Do not store directly on bare concrete or next to outside walls. Cartons should be placed as close to the center of the installation area as possible.

Proper jobsite conditions, acclimation and moisture testing of the subfloor along with the new flooring all works together for the success of the installation and is the responsibility of those overseeing the project.
You can find complete installation instructions on the product page by clicking on the installation tab and then clicking on - Installation Guide.

  • Q:

Can this product or a similar one be used in a herringbone installation? Can it be remilled to work? Are there other products that would fit this spec?

      A:

I wouldn't recommend this (MDF core) unfortunately we do not have "herringbone" and most all of our solids come in random lengths; so that would be a lot of re milling.

  • Q:

What is the thickness of the veneer? Can it be refinished? Have dogs... want to be sure it will last.
Asked on 10/21/2014 by gerry from Maine

      A:

This has a 1mm veneer wear layer.
To restore the original shine of a solid hardwood, bamboo, cork, and engineered floor a screen and re-coat may be needed or a complete refinishing. A professional sand and finish expert would have to make the determination on site on which sanding process will be needed or which can be done to restore the floors shine. Not all engineered floors can be refinished because of having a thin veneer layer.
      Thank you for your inquiry.

      A:

This product is a natural grade.
SUMMARY: Natural Grade flooring contains distinct variations in coloration and varying wood characters. Natural grade flooring will have a slightly longer average plank length compared to Rustic grade products.

DETAILED: Specific characteristics of Natural grade flooring will vary widely by wood species; however, typically include such things as: minor imperfections in milling; imperfections in face-work which cannot be wholly removed by an ordinary method of sanding; slight variations in angle of end matching; varying wood characteristics such as spots, streaks, slightly open checks, and pin/worm holes; small splits, broken knots or knot holes; and shallow back. Natural grade pre-finished flooring will have a plank face that is free of most finishing imperfections; however, may contain a limited amount of minor blemishes including, but not limited to: light grainy surface/debris, bubbles, streaks, uncoated bevel, finish chipping, dents, or equivalent type characters. When assembled, Natural grade flooring should not exhibit gaps exceeding 0.031”or end/side over-wood(e.g. height variation between adjacent planks) exceeding 0.030”.
