Comments about BELLAWOOD 3/4" x 5" Natural Maple:

Product was milled incorrectly - off by 1/8 inch causing the flooring to be uneven at the transitions to other rooms as well as with the stair nose. Worse, if any piece of floor is damaged, then the new pieces may or may not align with the already installed incorrectly milled pieces. So wondering what the warranty will buy me. Many of the pieces came damaged - cracks, broken pieces, large knots, etc.- forced to buy at least 15% more than what is needed. This is above and beyond the wastages that account for cutting as needed.

the flooring pieces were all the same thickness. but the milling of the widths is uneven, making it difficult to get tight seams. our contractor had to go back and fill in gaps with putty.

We installed the flooring in a Living/Dining room area. The width of the boards varied by up to an 1/8 of an inch. We took extra time to match widths in obvious areas, and used the odd sizes in less exposed parts of the room.

Very disappointed with the quality of the product. The board widths and heights varied so much that we had to measure each one prior to installing. We doubled our install time because of the shaving and custom planing we had to do to make the floor look ok.

Comments about BELLAWOOD 3/4" x 5" Natural Maple:

This was my first attempt to install hardwood flooring, and this product (Select Maple 3/4" x 5") made it very easy. The boards were well packaged and fit together without any difficulty. We used it in combination with similar sized Brazilian Cherry and the results are dramatic. Two observations:(1)it is essential to have a good saw and a sharp blade (these are after all HARDWOODS)and (2) the assorted lengths were a bit of a challenge. Having standard sized boards would have prevented a lot of searching for one the size needed. However, that is a minor inconvenience.

                A:

Yes, hardwood is acceptable for installation in a kitchen or a powder room. It is recommend to put a throw rug by the sink because an excess water can damage wood. You will need to wipe up any water that sit on the floor as soon as possible. However a full bathroom that is showered in everyday may not be the best location for hardwood. Often there is too much water on the floor or humidity that can be absorbed into the flooring resulting in board edge cupping. Engineered floors are a better choice for these areas.

                A:

                Regulations and Lumber Liquidators’ Compliance
The California Air Reform Bill (CARB) requires that products containing Hardwood Plywood Veneer Core (HWP-VC), Hardwood Plywood Composite Core (HWP-CC), Particleboard and MDF be tested for emissions and products not meeting the strict standards for emissions may not be sold in California.

The Environmental Protection Agency has drafted national standards for formaldehyde emissions in composite wood products that are similar to those of California. Those standards have not yet been enacted.

All laminates and engineered flooring products sold by Lumber Liquidators are purchased from mills whose production method has been certified by a Third Party Certifier approved by the State of California to meet the CARB standards. The scope of the certification by the Third Party Certifier includes the confirmation that the manufacturer has implemented the quality systems, process controls, and testing procedures outlined by CARB and that their products conform to the specified formaldehyde emission limits. The Third Party Certifier also provides ongoing oversight to validate the manufacturers’ compliance and manufacturers must be periodically re-certified.

Though it currently applies only to products sold in California, Lumber Liquidators made a decision to require all of our suppliers to comply with CARB regardless of whether we intended to sell the products in California or any other state/country. In addition, our suppliers manufacture their products in accordance with the European standard which has stricter guidelines than the California.

In addition to the CARB requirements, Lumber Liquidators regularly selects one or more products from each of its suppliers and submits them for independent third-party lab testing. This is done as a monitoring activity to validate ongoing compliance.

Can bamboo engineered wood floors be installed over radiant heated floors? I understand Maple and brazilian Cherry are too unstable and should be avoided over radiant heated flooring, but I want to make sure the bamboo properties are such that it can take well moisture and heat variation before I rip the carpet off the bedrooms! A:

This is a solid 5/8" product is designed to be nailed to a wood substrate or glued over concrete.
But can be installed over radiant heat using our Elastilon underlayment.
What you should know about Elastilon Strong
An Elastilon-backed wood floor is much faster to install than traditional nail or glue-down methods.
Elastilon Strong can be installed on new concrete floors, handling up to 3.9% moisture content. A vapour barrier of at least 6 mil PE should be used below grade and on newly poured concrete above grade where the moisture content is above 3.9%.
Laid down with a 5/8” (15 mm) expansion gap, Elastilon Strong creates a dynamic, floating floor that expands or contracts naturally with the hardwood.
Elastilon Strong has no odor and is free of volatile materials.
                Elastilon Strong gives cushioned comfort.
1/8” (3 mm) thick Elastilon Strong has ratings of IIC 62 and STC 54.
                Thermal resistance: R _ 0,15 (m K) / W
Elastilon Strong carries a 70-year limited warranty. Thank you for your inquiry.
