Crafted Meticulously. Harvested Responsibly. We understand the importance of healthy forests. That's why we only buy from suppliers who practice responsible harvesting and carefully manage their cutting with replanting strategies in place. For us, it's not just about being responsible citizens. It's about being a responsible business too.

We caught up with real Lumber Liquidators' customers who volunteered to discuss their floor shopping, buying and installation experiences. In no way did these customers receive compensation for their kind words. (They're speaking straight from the heart.)

I have a 5 year old floor with one board that was damaged by a dropped object. The piece I need to replace is only 24 inches long. Can I purchase a single piece or must I buy an entire carton?

      A:

You can do a single board replacement. Unfortunately our flooring is sold in boxes only. However, having extra is good to have on hand when repairs are needed. For details on board replacement please contact install@lumberliquidators.com .

SUMMARY: Natural Grade flooring contains distinct variations in coloration and varying wood characters. Natural grade flooring will have a slightly longer average plank length compared to Rustic grade products.

DETAILED: Specific characteristics of Natural grade flooring will vary widely by wood species; however, typically include such things as: minor imperfections in milling; imperfections in face-work which cannot be wholly removed by an ordinary method of sanding; slight variations in angle of end matching; varying wood characteristics such as spots, streaks, slightly open checks, and pin/worm holes; small splits, broken knots or knot holes; and shallow back. Natural grade pre-finished flooring will have a plank face that is free of most finishing imperfections; however, may contain a limited amount of minor blemishes including, but not limited to: light grainy surface/debris, bubbles, streaks, uncoated bevel, finish chipping, dents, or equivalent type characters. When assembled, Natural grade flooring should not exhibit gaps exceeding 0.031”or end/side over-wood(e.g. height variation between adjacent planks) exceeding 0.030”.

      A:

Select Grade flooring contains natural characteristics such as small knots and minor color variations produced by differences in natural heartwood and sapwood; however, has a more uniform color and longer average plank length compared to Natural grade flooring products.

DETAILED: Specific characteristics of Select grade products will vary by wood species; however, typically include such things as: slight imperfections in milling; slight variations in face-work which can be readily removed by an ordinary method of sanding; occasional small, tight pin knots or small pin holes; burls; and a reasonable amount of slightly open checks. Select grade pre-finished flooring will have a plank face that is practically free of most finishing defects including debris, skips, streaks, blisters, chipping, or scratches. When assembled, Select grade flooring should not exhibit gaps exceeding 0.025”or end/side over-wood (e.g. height variation between adjacent boards) exceeding 0.020”.

  • Q:

how many coats of finish does this product have
Asked on 4/2/2014 by nate from NH

    1 answer

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

Our Bellawood floors are factory pre-finished with an aluminum oxide water-base urethane using a multi-step application process. (8) coats are applied to most domestic and exotic wood species and each coat is hard-cured using Ultraviolet (UV) light. Bellawood pre-finished flooring offers superior wear resistance and is backed by a limited 100-year warranty! (The exact formula is propietary information) The formula for the Bellawood finish is a custom mix that has a 50/50 gloss. The sheen you get is shinier than satin, but not as shiny as semi -gloss.
The average dry film thickness for Bellawood is about 3.65 mils – one of the highest in the industry.
Maintaining the appearance of any wood floor requires close attention to in-door climate controls during seasonal changes.

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

If your floor becomes scratched, repairs can often be made using our "Blend Stick" floor repair putty. Other Options; our "Scratch Away" works well and is easily applied (SKU 10021566)

For heavy damage a full sanding and refinishing can be done however a site finished floor can scratch much easier than factory finished; especially Bellawood which has a very strong finish compared to other manufacturers.

  • Q:

I am thinking of using this on a stair landing. It would be easiest to naill the first and last rown in place and glue down the rest of the boards onto the subfloor. Is that acceptable? Anything I am not taking into acount?
Asked on 2/18/2013 by Dp from VA

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

When nailing your first and last rows where a nailer won't fit because of the wall or cabinets, drill and hand nail as many boards as you can through the tongue at a 45 degree angle. When you don't have room for that pre-drill with 3mm bit (3/32") to prevent finish damage/cracking and face nail with 5d-8d galvanized, screw shank, ring shank or regular finish nails. Countersink with a nail punch and fill holes with a matching filler.

  • Q:

We have a older upright piano. What is the best way to install the floor and get the piano back into the room? What should we have under the piano and bench legs to prevent damaging the floor or are we better off just moving the piano to another room?
Asked on 1/17/2013 by Billy the Goat

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Use Hardboard or thick moving blankets to protect the flooring when moving. Protect your new flooring with "piano caster cups" once in place.
