Schön Engineered- 1/2" x 5" Old Castle Sapele Engineered Flooring- 30 Year Warranty

New style french bleed for rustic, disctressed look on an exotic species.  Deep, rich, red coloration is great in any type of home.

Wood floors and water don't mix.  But, Schön Engineered Floors are a perfect match for all areas of the home including those with a higher moisture content like: basements, bathrooms, kitchens, concrete sub-floors, and below grade installation.
Made from several layers of wood bonded together, Schön Engineered Floors overcome typical moisture related reactions remaining flat and intact, in addition to looking exactly like solid wood floors once it is installed!
Schön Floors come in beautiful exotic and domestic species and a 30 year warranty.

Quick Highlights:
- Solid Hardwood Wear Layer
- Superior strength and Stability
- Covered by a 30 Year Warranty
- Glue Down or Float... even on concrete floors!

This product is also a good choice for installation over radiant heat sources and below grade applications.

About Engineered Flooring:
Hardwood veneer layers are stacked on one another, with the grain of the adjacent layers oriented perpendicular to each other.
Because wood expands and contracts in the direction of the grain, one layer stabilizes the next, resulting in a product that is less susceptible to the effects of moisture & temperature change.

      A:

Despite today's advanced technology, water spills, dirt and other abrasive substances can damage a wood floor's finish. Location, traffic patterns, how often the floor is vacuumed and cleaned, children and/or pets are all factors that influence wear and durability.

  • Q:

I recently purchased a large amount of this. I'm getting ready to install it and was planning to use the "floating" style. The sales people did not mention any glue or adhesives that I would need; is it mandatory to do so or can it simply be clicked together? Thank you,

      A:

Carpenters PVA Floating Floor Wood adhesive should be applied to each groove on the short and long sides of the planks to ensure bond with the other planks. Two separate continuous beads of glue should be applied: one continuous bead applied inside the groove, and one continuous bead applied to the top part of the tongue at all seams to ensure a secure bond with the top and bottom of the tongue. This double-gluing helps to minimize squeaks, board gaps, or separation. I will send you the instructions directly to your email.

  • Q:

Is there a UV rating on engineered flooring? What engineered wood protects hold up against fading?
Asked on 8/8/2013 by TD from Orlando FL

    1 answer

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

All wood species can change color over time due to oxidation or when exposed to light. In some species, the change can be more dramatic and may darken in color over time, while others tend to lighten. Currently there is no known value set for Patina or color change of a species so contractors and or customers should be aware of this normal condition. The patina process is unrelated to the urethane finishes. Thank you for your inquiry.

  • Q:

why is there no Janka rating for this product?

      A:

Engineered Hardwoods and the Janka Scale.
The Janka scale chart is not to be considered an absolute; it is designed to help people understand which woods are harder than others.
The Janka Hardness test is done in accordance with ASTM D 1037-7 testing methods. Lumber stocks tested ranges from 1" to 2" thick. (Resulting Janka Hardness Numbers are an average.) It important to note that no testing is done on flooring (but is done on “solid” wood species).
The Janka hardness test measures the resistance of a type of wood to withstand denting and wear. It measures the force required to embed an 11.28 mm (0.444 in) steel ball into wood to half the ball's diameter. This method leaves an indentation. A common use of Janka hardness ratings is to determine whether a species of wood is suitable for use as flooring.
Other factors that affect how flooring performs: type of core for engineered flooring like: pine, hdf (high density fiber board) , poplar, oak, birch....etc.. When choosing an engineered floor (other than the species) consider grain direction and thickness floor or top wear surface of the product, engineered hardwoods with thicker wear layers (more actual hardwood) will offer more resistance to dinging than ones with much thinner wear layers. The hardness ratings should not be the only deciding factor when selecting any hardwood floor.
      Thank you for your inquiry.
