Can we install laminate over old carpet?

No, any carpet will have to be removed because it offers no moisture protection or support to the locking system..

  • Q:

Trying to decide between this product and peel and stick resilient for a very large space in my dance studio...will be installed over suspended subfloor...which product do you recommend?
Asked on 10/28/2010 by starz studio from lake norman, nc

      A:

To be honest I don't believe laminate flooring or vinyl flooring would be a good choice for a dance floor. Stress on the floor from dancing, movement, and deflection can cause a laminate locking system to break and cause separation. Most dance floor systems use solid nail down hardwood or engineered nail down flooring. We work with a company called Dura Dance floors that are experts at installing dance floors if you like you can give them a call at (888) 229-8281.

PVA laminate glue as needed, tape, safety glasses, broom/vacuum, underlayment, 6mm-8mm Polyethylene sheet plastic as a moisture barrier over concrete (Do not use plastic over bare wood subfloors)
