Comments about Prefinished Natural Heart Pine T-Molding:

7.5 x 72 boards engineered T&G: install went fast; tight seams both ends and sides;400 SF installed by myself (DIY) took me only 3 days. Finding a stapler to rent took a while - [...] in Manchester, NH had what I needed including the supplies and instructions for use. This is a great looking floor once installed - Syberian Pine. I took off all the base board so I wouldn't have to use 1/4 round, looks more natural. The one thing I didn't like was my refrigerator rollers left compression marks that can be seen if the lighting is just right. I'm going to try steaming them out.

  • Q:

I am thinking of installing this kind of floor in my kitchen area and wanted to know if I would need to strip my vinyl floor currently in place or can just install over it. Thanks

      A:

Yes, hardwood can be installed over well secured firm kitchen vinyl. Vinyls that are rubbery, heavily embossed, or foamy must be removed for a firm floor. For naildown flooring, vinyls that are covered over tend to sweat, so as a barrier use red rosin paper or black 15lb roofing felt under the new wood flooring. Your subfloor needs to be plywood under the vinyl for naildown installation.

Particle Board subfloor, consider a floating engineered/bamboo/or laminate. Gluedown installation is possible, however you need to consider that the flooring to vinyl bond can only be as strong as the vinyl to subfloor bond.

  • Q:

I was told at the store that this product can be glued down over existing tile. Since most solid hardwoods can't be glued down, what is different about this one? Is it a true solid hardwood?

  • Q:

I know your Brazilian Cherry hardwood darkens in the sunlight after installation

Does this Brazilian Cherry Lite ALSO darken in the sunlight after installation?

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

Yes it will but not to the same extent.
All wood species can change color over time due to oxidation or when exposed to light. In some species, the change can be more dramatic and may darken in color over time, while others tend to lighten. Currently there is no known value set for Patina or color change of a species so contractors and or customers should be aware of this normal condition. The patina process is unrelated to the urethane finishes.

  • Q:

If this is solid wood why do they say it has a 4.5 mm wear layer?
So is it engineered or solid. If solid why is it 1/2 inch as opposed to usual 3/4 inch solid wood. Thanks

  • Q:

Does anyone who has this flooring installed also have a dog? I am wondering how it holds up with a dog's nails?
Asked on 2/6/2011 by Anonymous from NH

    1 answer

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

Despite today's advanced technology, water spills, dirt and other abrasive substances can damage a wood floor's finish. Location, traffic patterns, how often the floor is vacuumed and cleaned, children and/or pets are all factor that influence wear.
