Better than expected....hard to tell what this was going to be from the very small sample. The patterns on the floor are awesome. Looks wonderful in the room. Will do two other rooms in the same bamboo as soon as it becomes affordable for me.

Comments about Prefinished Strand Carbonized Bamboo Stair Nose:

We used this bamboo for our living room, dining room and family room. It looks beautiful. The only problem with the stair nose is that the planks were different widths. When we ran out of one box and had to open another we found this out and couldn't install it. The difference was about 1/4 inch, though all boxes were labeled the same. If you use this, be sure to open all boxes and check so that when you wrap the stairs you leave the correct space.
We called LL and found that their other packages were also cut larger than the indicated width. We did find one box at another location much farther away that was correct. Driving to get that was much better than taking the pieces to be cut at a shop, or starting over. Keep in mind that, though beautiful when finished, you should not install yourself. Hire a professional for this particular bamboo. It is VERY hard to work with as both of the installers we used made clear, and that way you're covered if it gets messed up.

Comments about Prefinished Strand Carbonized Bamboo Stair Nose:

I ordered these stair noses along with the stranded carbonized bamboo flooring for my stairs, but I was a little disappointed to find that the color of these stair noses is a lot lighter than the bamboo flooring.

I have 15 stairs, each 38" wide. The estimate calls for 9 pieces (6' each). How do you join 2 pieces for one stair? Wouldn't it look cleaner to use a full piece for each stair? Is a similar product available in 4' lengths (less waste)?

              • Q:

I currently have carpeted stairs and plan to replace the carpet with the carbonized strand bamboo (same type I used on my flooring). So my question is; Do I have to remove the current steps that have a bullnose with steps with no bullnose? And is the correct procedure when laying the wood flooring to do the risers first then the step?

                  A:

The overlap on existing treads can simply be sawn off. Then the flooring and nosing can be fastened.

For safety, stair parts should be both nailed and glued. Nails can be predrilled, countersunk and holes filled with matching filler. Working from the bottom step to the top step, apply about 1/2" thick bead of adhesive to the back of each board in an "S" type pattern then Nail the tongues.

Best adhesive to use is construction grade, 100% urethane like our Bostik Best or from the LIQUID NAIL family of glues.

In addition, for strength stair nosing should also be back-glued and top-nailed. Joists or stringers support stair treads and risers. Pre-drill nail holes half way into the stair nosing over each stringer, nail through the board into the stringers using a 2"-2 1/2" 7d-8d finish nail, counter-sink and fill holes and fill with a matching filler.
