Not great for wood-ceramic tile transiti

By Dave

from Shawnee, OK

Comments about Prefinished Strand Natural Bamboo T-Molding:

The transition did not go to the floor, so e had to use a lot of adhesive to fill the gap. The transition looks great, but is difficult to install. Time will tell how we'll it will hold up to heavy traffic areas.

T molding is plenty wide enough to cover errors or too wide gaps. Nicely finished and matches flooring perfectly. Looks a little thick and bulky.

Comments about Prefinished Strand Natural Bamboo T-Molding:

We used the horizontal stranded natural bamboo flooring in our closet, dressing room, bedroom, dining room and hallway. It looks great. The color variation is very good and it lightened our house up. We are very pleased with this product. I've read that bamboo scratches easily, but the only scratch we have is from moving a buffet with moving sliders that had some grit under it. If we had checked it first, it wouldn't have scratched.

What is the maximum length of this T-Molding? I need 9 feet transition and would prefer not to join two pieces together.

How do we attach t-molding? There is underlayment and vapor barrier on top of the concrete basement floor.

            A:

T-molding for this type of floor does not come with a u-track as with some floating laminate floors. You can use a urethane adhesive in a caulking tube and apply a thick bead of adhesive directly to the subfloor and sit the molding in place allowing the bottom of the T-molding to sit into the adhesive. Apply weights on top of the molding until the adhesive cures. If the bottom of the molding does not reach the subfloor, cut a shim and glue it to the bottom of the t-molding and once cured glue the whole piece to the subfloor.

        • Q:

I purchased Schon natural bamboo with both the overlap threshold and the T moulding. The T moulding is not as thick as the bamboo flooring even w/o the underlayment. I planned to use it as a transition between tile, thinner than the wood flooring, and the wood flooring. It tilts between the two elevations and does not even touch the concrete below. It will be a floating installation.

I don't see how this could possibly work...

The overlap moulding is thicker and appears to work perfectly with wood to carpet transition, however it would be too thick as a transition from tile to wood.

Have I been sold the right product?

          • CUSTOMER CARE

            A:

T-molding is used for two even floors. What you may need to do is modify a threshold to fit, table saw required. For details on transitions for your flooring search "Transition applications for Hardwood" here - www.lumberliquidators.com/custserv/aboutus.jsp?pageName=Flooring101

        • Q:

This molding does not come with a track. Do you sell a track that would accept the tongue of this T-molding? How would you install without a track?

            A:

Our solid moldings are not designed to be installed with a track system.
They can be installed by pre-drilling and securing with finish nails or be glued down using a 100% urethane construction adhesive.
            thank you for writing in.

        • Q:

Several questions about T-Molding and Reducers below:

We purchased Schon quick clic strand woven bamboo flooring, and are not sure what kind of transitions we need - probably T-molding for bamboo floor to carpet transitions, but one question there is that we eventually would like to put the same flooring in the bedrooms (where there is currently carpet) - should we just leave the molding off altogether and wait to install the floors continuously with no threshold/transition? Or can it be removed later?

Also, the difference in height between the bamboo flooring and the tile in the bathroom is very small - do we need a reducer, or can we use a T-molding when the difference is not big? And what would be the cut-off for when a reducer is needed?

Another question about reducers - we have a fireplace hearth which is slightly raised - I saw on the reducer page that it was recommended for use around fireplaces - is that only for flat hearths?

          Thank you!

            A:

A threshold molding would be used to transition from the bamboo to the carpet and the bamboo to a fire place hearth that is slightly raised. If the difference between two floors is less than 1/8" a t-molding can be used and it will sit at a slight angle. When you are ready to put flooring in the carpeted room just remove the threshold install the bamboo and use a T-molding to separate the two rooms.
