Comments about Prefinished Tobacco Road T-Molding:

I learned a valuable lesson here: not all T-molds are made the same. The flooring has multiple shades, so maybe this should be expected. Note that variability in the flooring holds true for the molding, so I HIGHLY recommend hand picking your molding. You will be happier

I really love my Acacia Tabacco Road Floors, they are gorgeous but what they gave me to "match" for a T-molding is very ugly and does not compliment my hardwood floors at all.

          didn't match the floor

          By Jackie

          from SE Minnesota

Comments about Prefinished Tobacco Road T-Molding:

t-moldings were red where as the floor is not red at all. They took them back and refunded my money right away and have ordered new ones. But I have not seen them yet and its been a week since I called them and ordered the new ones. So the floor sits unfinished. Even though in name they said they were the same, I thought it was odd they would send t-moldings that didn't match at all to the color of the floor ... one would think someone would look at them to ensure they matched. I trust they will find some that match.

I have been told to use this as an expansion break in a floating engineered floor over concrete since the room has a 30' 2" span on one wall. How is it secured to the concrete which will have Bella Premium Underlayment on it?

                A:

                30' 2"? I don't think you need a T-molding.
                For a floating installation;
Floating floor expansion Perimeter expansion space for room areas 30’x30’ and under is ½”. Room areas exceeding 30’x30’ expansion space is ¾”
No spans or connected flooring can be greater than 40’ in any direction without an expansion break. A connected area is defined as all room areas using the same flooring, connected. Expansion breaks can be placed in doorways, between rooms or hallways.
Expansion breaks can be hidden using T- type expansion moldings. Please contact me directly and I would be glad to answer any of your installation questions.

            • Q:

I will be placing Tobacco Road T-Molding where the tile in my bathroom floors will join the Tobacco Road Hardwood floors to be installed in the rest of my house. I will be installing new bathroom pocket doors before the Tobacco Road flooring is installed. I need to know how much above the top of flooring the T-Molding extends so I know how much to trim the bottom of the door so it will clear the T-Molding as it is opened and closed. I would like to keep the bottom of the door as close as possible to the top of the T-Molding without rubbing the top of the T-Molding. Thank you very much for your time and assistance.

            • Q:

I am buying the casa de colour tobacco road acacia and was curious about the t-molding, I need to put something at the doorway to transition to the hallway, which is a bamboo floor, but the dimensions on the t-molding are a bit odd based on the response to the person who inquired before. I simply need about the length of a typical doorway, about a bit over 2 feet and the width, I assume is like an inch or two? The response to the previous person, indicates an extreme width and length, almost like an area rug. What are the true dimensions?

            • Q:

How do I install this T-Molding? I have put down 4 3/4" x 3/4" Tobacco Rd, what size expansion space should I allow at the T Molding, 3/4" like around the room? Do I face nail the T Molding or is there a metal U-channel it snaps into like with Laminate molding?

                A:

You should leave a 1" space for the T-molding to allow for expansion space between the two floors under the overlap. Depending on what floor you are butting up to you can glue it to the opposite side of the new floor or nail it into the other floor. You do not want to nail into the new floor, this will restrict the expansion and contraction of the wood.
