Morning Star Bamboo- 5/8" x 3-3/4" Stained Solid Strand French Roast Bamboo Flooring- 30 Year Warranty

Morning Star Bamboo Flooring is one of the best bamboo floors on the market today. It is produced from old growth bamboo reeds that are at least 4 years old, thereby increasing hardness. Morning Star Bamboo Flooring creates a naturally beautiful and ecologically friendly product that evokes a feeling of luxury.

Quick Highlights:
- Real Bamboo
- Eco-Friendly
- Glue or Nail Down
- 30 Year Warranty

Strand
Twice as hard as oak, strand bamboo is an optimal choice for busy homes when durability is needed to stand up to the wear and tear of family foot traffic, active kids and even pets.

To make strand bamboo, shredded bamboo fibers are compressed under extreme heat and pressure.  This manufacturing process yields flooring that is even harder and more dense than traditional bamboo floors. Available in a variety of colors to complement and décor, all Morning Star strand bamboo products are finished with premium coating and backed by a 30 year warranty.

And, since bamboo is a naturally sustainable grass that re-grows spontaneously after harvest, you can feel good about making an environmentally friendly flooring decision.

It's simple...
Eco-Friendly. Beautiful look. Beautiful price.

I knew this dark bamboo would look good and be hard to keep clean. Both are true, though I am so disappointed that scratches stick out like a sore thumb would.
Unlike wood floors that I have had in the past, when you scratch this, you remove the color facade and left with a bright scratch.
The weakness of this product is that the beautiful dark part is just a thin layer on the top of the wood, unlike the carbonized strand (which I also have experience with). Though carbonizing the bamboo makes it softer, I have found it to be MUCH more durable.

Buy and install this (or any) dark bamboo only in a room that is for looking at/special occasions, not for using daily.

    Bamboo Kobra

It looked great at the beginning but within a week, I noticed some scratches. Every thing, and I mean everything, scratches the floor. The finish is painted on which means that when there's a scratch, the original color underneath shows up. The finish is not strong at all.
I definitely will not recommend this product. Also, when my old dog dies, I will replace my floors with proper hardwood.

    Regrets

    By James

    from Pittsburgh

Installed this on most of my first floor; kitchen, living room and bedroom. It looks great when clean, though it is hard to keep clean and it isn't very durable. I expected it would be hard to clean, but didn't think moving chairs and a dresser around would scratch the bamboo so badly. That dark wood really shows off the scratches too. Other scratches for other reasons, not as durable as my previous hardwood floors.
It really bugs me that I have to constantly worry about the floor - anytime I drop something, move something, etc.
I would pay more and buy hardwood if I could redo...

We had these installed almost 2 years ago. They are gorgeous however, due to how dark they are, it is very hard to keep them clean. I literally have to Swiffer them daily to keep them looking nice. If you have dogs I would be cautious about buying floors this dark, as they are just to hard to keep clean between the dog hair and paw prints. Also, they do scratch easily, which is disappointing and frustrating. If you can handle the care that is required with these floors they are worth it because they look amazing.

        • Wow factor

The floors are gorgeous 3 years into having them. Scratches do occur but can easily be hidden using one of those stain markers. They do show dust and footprints easily, so probably the dark color isn't best for homes with kids/pets (we have three kids and one cat). Installing was tricky: had to use the meanest nailer/nails out there and the wood is so hard it ate through saw blades quickly. But the bang for the buck was worth it (is worth it). Everyone oohs and ahhs over the floors, they look amazing, and I work in real estate and know they'll be great for resale.

Used this flooring for virtually the entire main level of my new house. Installation was simple and the floor looks great! However, there were a LOT of boards with bad finish or unusable tongues. If you have the paitience to play around with those boards as your starters or finishers or under cabinetry, you'll be fine.

This flooring was easy to install and has worn well. It is very difficult to keep looking clean. Everything shows on it. It is especially prone to scratches since the dark finish is only a surface dye and not the true color of the bamboo. I wish I had gone with a different floor mostly due to the scratch factor.

M husband and I purchased this bamboo flooring for our entire first floor in our new home. We knew when buying it that dirt and dust would show a lot (and it is true) but that we were okay with the upkeep. It looks very modern and crisp against our white woodwork and light colored walls - which is what we wanted! The only downside at this point are the slight scratches that are showing, however you cannot really see them unless you are down close to it. We plan to hide the scratches with one of the markers or something. We also have a 60 lb. dog and it has been fine with her so far!

As stated in most of the reviews, this product does scratch easily. Do you make a marker or some other product that can fill in or hide the light color that shows through when the floor is scratched? Do you have any recommendations on how to hide and or repair scratachs?

                  A:

Very light Surface scratches are best treated using scratch covers, spray concealers or lotions. These products will camouflage the scratch, not removing it. Color stain markers are available from most home repair stores and are also ideal for concealing scratches. These markers have a stain and urethane mixture that even applies a shine to the repair. When using these products make sure the scratch is clean from dust and debris. Next shake the marker well to mix the stain and urethane. Apply the stain liberally to the scratch. Use a clean rag to remove any excess stain before it dries to keep stain from discoloring adjacent wood. You may need several colors for concealing scratches in exotic species.

Type in - Can my bamboo flooring be re-sanded or re-finished? What are the basic procedures? -.
You could refinish a prefinished flooring after it is installed, but this would void the finish warranty on the flooring and create extra expense for you after already buying a new floor with a 20, 30, or 50yr finish warranty.
We recommend that hardwood floor refinishing be done by a professional and if your not sure if you can refinish your flooring have professional sand and finish expert come to your home and evaluate your flooring. Thank you for your inquiry.

The adhesive that is used in bonding our Bamboo, Cork, Engineered, and Laminate flooring products contain very low amounts of Urea Formaldehyde. We feel that our products are very safe and most meet California CARB Phase I or California Phase II regulations, which is listed on the boxes. We also list MSDS sheets for most of these products on the Lumber Liquidators website “Flooring 101”.

                  A:

For safety, stair parts should be both nailed and glued. Nails can be predrilled, countersunk and holes filled with matching filler. Working from the bottom step to the top step, apply about 1/2" thick bead of adhesive to the back of each board in an "S" type pattern then Nail the tongues.

Best adhesive to use is construction grade, 100% urethane glues.

In addition, for strength stair nosing should also be back-glued and top-nailed. Joists or stringers support stair treads and risers. Pre-drill nail holes half way into the stair nosing over each stringer, nail through the board into the stringers using a 2"-2 1/2" 7d-8d finish nail, counter-sink and fill holes and fill with a matching filler.

Our Bellawood floor cleaner does not contain any polishes ,wax or anything that will build on the surface and is recommended to be used on all our flooring products. I do hear of this scenario often enough and it always prooves out that there was another cleaning product used previously on the floor that may be building up. Most likely once the residue is removed (call Bona for advise) from the original factory finish the floor can be maintained easily using the Bellawood floor cleaner . Thank you for your inquiry.

What is the proper procedure to acclimate this product before installing?
                Asked on 4/25/2012 by timmy

                1 answer

                • Staff Reviewer

                  A:

Acclimation: All wood products are affected by environmental conditions, especially prefinished materials.
To control wood movement- expansion or shrinkage- it is recommended to acclimate the new flooring in the areas to be installed, not in (garages, U-Haul trailers, sheds, or tents) to normal lived-in conditions while in the boxes. If the products are protected in plastic then open the ends of the boxes. Length of time is not the determining factor. The goal of acclimation is for the core of the product to reach an equilibrium or moisture balance of the new flooring with its surroundings before installation or fastening. This balance could be achieved in as little as 1 to 5 days, or longer for some dense or oily exotic species.

                  Avoid shocking the floor.
Just like you, wood actually performs best with consistent indoor temperatures of 60°-80° F and indoor humidity levels of 30% - 50%. Very dry or humid regions of the country usually require extended conditioning. Maintaining the recommended acclimation levels even after the installation should be viewed as ongoing floor care. Your doing so will help to minimize board movement, excessive squeaks, finish cracking and gaps.

Hygrometers sold in most Target and Wal-Mart stores ($10-$45) can be used to easily identify the need to regulate the humidity or air moisture.
In addition, to prevent board warping or bowing, do not cut the plastic support bindings on the outside of the packaging until ready to install. Store products flat, in a dry place. Provide air flow under and around cartons. Do not store directly on bare concrete or next to outside walls. Cartons should be placed as close to the center of the installation area as possible.

Proper jobsite conditions, acclimation and moisture testing of the subfloor along with the new flooring all works together for the success of the installation and is the responsibility of those overseeing the project.
