Morning Star Bamboo- 5/8" x 3-3/4" Stained Solid Strand Qing Kobra Bamboo Flooring- 30 Year Warranty

Morning Star Bamboo Flooring is one of the best bamboo floors on the market today. It is produced from old growth bamboo reeds that are at least 4 years old, thereby increasing hardness. Morning Star Bamboo Flooring creates a naturally beautiful and ecologically friendly product that evokes a feeling of luxury.

Quick Highlights:
- Real Bamboo
- Eco-Friendly
- Glue or Nail Down
- 30 Year Warranty

Strand
Twice as hard as oak, strand bamboo is an optimal choice for busy homes when durability is needed to stand up to the wear and tear of family foot traffic, active kids and even pets.

To make strand bamboo, shredded bamboo fibers are compressed under extreme heat and pressure.  This manufacturing process yields flooring that is even harder and more dense than traditional bamboo floors. Available in a variety of colors to complement and décor, all Morning Star strand bamboo products are finished with premium coating and backed by a 30 year warranty.

And, since bamboo is a naturally sustainable grass that re-grows spontaneously after harvest, you can feel good about making an environmentally friendly flooring decision.

It's simple...
Eco-Friendly. Beautiful look. Beautiful price.

First time homeowners..

  • Shows Dust Dirt

M husband and I purchased this bamboo flooring for our entire first floor in our new home. We knew when buying it that dirt and dust would show a lot (and it is true) but that we were okay with the upkeep. It looks very modern and crisp against our white woodwork and light colored walls - which is what we wanted! The only downside at this point are the slight scratches that are showing, however you cannot really see them unless you are down close to it. We plan to hide the scratches with one of the markers or something. We also have a 60 lb. dog and it has been fine with her so far!

We had this hardwood installed in our entire house (minus the bathrooms/utility room)I really like how the hardwood turned out. The only negative is that it scratches easily and because it's so dark all scratches show.

    Be Careful With Stranded Bamboo

    By Double J

    Pros

    • Elegant When Finished

    Cons

    • Difficult to nail
    • Need Sharp Saw Blades
    • Use 18 Guage Nails

    Best Uses

Product is difficult to cut -- you need extremely sharp blades and have to take your time. The wood is not forgiving if you make a mistake or if you apply unnecessary pressure when using your tools.

When laying out the floor, a number of boards within each box were flawed or had various imperfections. When putting the pieces together, I had to use a mallet and a spare piece to hammer everything together (it was an extremely tight fit).

It took me a long time to decide on what color I wanted to purchase. I finally decided on this one. It is very rich looking that is what I wanted. The disadvanage of this though is that is shows everything (dust etc).

I've installed probably 20 floors in my lifetime. This is my first bamboo floor. I'm halfway through my 33 boxes so far and it seems more durable than I expected. Absolutely gorgeous color. Almost zero waste too.

Good product. Goes together nice if installed properly. All pieces come in the same length, so our waste was less than 2%!!! If you're nailing it down use either finish nails, or, we used "L" flooring nails. Staples will reveal small humps on the surface of the floor. Very hard wood (grass..) and looks great! Only down side is, as with most dark floors, it shows scratches in the finish very easily.

This product is extremely durable and it looks amazing. In fact, I dropped a fireplace log on the floor and it didn't make a scratch.

We had it installed in our living room, library and bedroom. The floor looks amazing and it's very easy to clean. The only problem is that the dark color and shine combined show off every footprint and speck of dirt. I have to clean the floors every single day with a micro cloth and cleaner. It only takes 5 minutes, but it's something to consider.

I am interested in the Qing Kobra, I want to install on stairs. Can you use both glue and nail down method on stairs?

Also, is it advised to leave gap for expansion for stair application?
Asked on 2/10/2013 by D.J. from Hilliard, OH

          1 answer

          • CUSTOMER CARE

            A:

For safety, stair parts should be both nailed and glued. Nails can be predrilled, countersunk and holes filled with matching filler. Working from the bottom step to the top step, apply about 1/2" thick bead of adhesive to the back of each board in an "S" type pattern then Nail the tongues.

Best adhesive to use is construction grade, 100% urethane glues.

In addition, for strength stair nosing should also be back-glued and top-nailed. Joists or stringers support stair treads and risers. Pre-drill nail holes half way into the stair nosing over each stringer, nail through the board into the stringers using a 2"-2 1/2" 7d-8d finish nail, counter-sink and fill holes and fill with a matching filler.

Our Bellawood floor cleaner does not contain any polishes ,wax or anything that will build on the surface and is recommended to be used on all our flooring products. I do hear of this scenario often enough and it always prooves out that there was another cleaning product used previously on the floor that may be building up. Most likely once the residue is removed (call Bona for advise) from the original factory finish the floor can be maintained easily using the Bellawood floor cleaner . Thank you for your inquiry.

        • Q:

What is the proper procedure to acclimate this product before installing?
          Asked on 4/25/2012 by timmy

          1 answer

          • Staff Reviewer

            A:

Acclimation: All wood products are affected by environmental conditions, especially prefinished materials.
To control wood movement- expansion or shrinkage- it is recommended to acclimate the new flooring in the areas to be installed, not in (garages, U-Haul trailers, sheds, or tents) to normal lived-in conditions while in the boxes. If the products are protected in plastic then open the ends of the boxes. Length of time is not the determining factor. The goal of acclimation is for the core of the product to reach an equilibrium or moisture balance of the new flooring with its surroundings before installation or fastening. This balance could be achieved in as little as 1 to 5 days, or longer for some dense or oily exotic species.

            Avoid shocking the floor.
Just like you, wood actually performs best with consistent indoor temperatures of 60°-80° F and indoor humidity levels of 30% - 50%. Very dry or humid regions of the country usually require extended conditioning. Maintaining the recommended acclimation levels even after the installation should be viewed as ongoing floor care. Your doing so will help to minimize board movement, excessive squeaks, finish cracking and gaps.

Hygrometers sold in most Target and Wal-Mart stores ($10-$45) can be used to easily identify the need to regulate the humidity or air moisture.
In addition, to prevent board warping or bowing, do not cut the plastic support bindings on the outside of the packaging until ready to install. Store products flat, in a dry place. Provide air flow under and around cartons. Do not store directly on bare concrete or next to outside walls. Cartons should be placed as close to the center of the installation area as possible.

Proper jobsite conditions, acclimation and moisture testing of the subfloor along with the new flooring all works together for the success of the installation and is the responsibility of those overseeing the project.

            A:

Strand bamboo is very hard and requires an 18 gauge cleat nail to install. Gluedown can also be achieved according to manufacturer instructions however our glues sticks hard to wood subfloor so repairs, if ever needed, may be difficult.

            This is a nail-down or glue-down product.
But can be installed (floated) using our Elastilon underlayment.
What you should know about Elastilon Strong
An Elastilon-backed wood floor is much faster to install than traditional nail or glue-down methods.
Elastilon Strong can be installed on new concrete floors, handling up to 3.9% moisture content. A vapour barrier of at least 6 mil PE should be used below grade and on newly poured concrete above grade where the moisture content is above 3.9%.
Laid down with a 5/8” (15 mm) expansion gap, Elastilon Strong creates a dynamic, floating floor that expands or contracts naturally with the hardwood.
Elastilon Strong has no odor and is free of volatile materials.
            Elastilon Strong gives cushioned comfort.
1/8” (3 mm) thick Elastilon Strong has ratings of IIC 62 and STC 54.
            Thermal resistance: R _ 0,15 (m K) / W
Elastilon Strong carries a 70-year limited warranty.

            A:

Most baseboards are only 1/2" thick so you may need to use additional shoe molding or quarter round, or you may be able to undercut the wall board to provide the extra room for expansion.
