How thick is the wear layer? Can it be refinished?

        A:

Yes you can refinish this flooring. However a flooring abrader is necessary because of the 2mm thick hand scraped veneer. FA-8: The Floor Abrader

We are in the process of having the floor installed. A few planks that were installed have small chips on the edges. Can they be fixed or do they need to be removed and replaced?

Repairs can often be made using ColorFill Floor Repair Putty or a small art brush with water-based poly-urethane. To avoid chipping during installation, be certain nailer shoe is designed for prefinished flooring.

We have a seasonal home in AZ where we would like to install this product. We are not in the home during the summer months. Will we need to air condition the house in the summer? If so, what is the range we would need to maintain?

        A:

Just like you, wood actually performs best with consistent indoor temperatures of 60°-80° F and indoor humidity levels of 30% - 50%. Very dry or humid regions of the country usually require extended conditioning. Maintaining the recommended acclimation levels even after the installation should be viewed as ongoing floor care. Your doing so will help to minimize board movement, excessive squeaks, finish cracking and gaps.

    • Q:

what is the hardness or janka rating of this product?
      Asked on 1/4/2013 by Anonymous

      1 answer

      • Staff Reviewer

        A:

The Janka hardness test is done only on solid wood products and does not apply to a veneered flooring product, engineered flooring is not solid wood and only the thin surface veneer has the botanical species on it.

Can engineered flooring be refinished ?

      • CUSTOMER CARE

        A:

Yes. However less times than solid. Handscraped also requires an abrader such as the FA-8 Floor Abrader instead of traditional sanders because of the uneven surface.

        A:

Despite today's advanced technology, water spills, dirt and other abrasive substances can damage a wood floor's finish. Location, traffic patterns, how often the floor is vacuumed and cleaned, children and/or pets are all factors that influence wear and durability.
Pee may damage the HDF core and cause it to swell up and ruin your floor.
I would suggest one of our vinyl Tranquility products. We have a 2mm peel and stick and now a 4mm and 5mm solid vinyl click together products that can go in full bath areas or where moisture is a concern. Thank you for your inquiry.

What is the best product(s) to clean Golden Teak Plank engineered flooring? Will it harm the floor to use a damp mop?

        A:

We can only recommend our Bellawood Floor Cleaner, or cleaners that are safe for water based urethane finishes. Never use any polish, wax, oil soaps or cleaners that add shine to the floor. Thank you for your inquiry.

I was planning to use this product in a room with several large windows. Will the light through these windows cause fading of this flooring. Do you recommend this flooring for kitchen?

      • CUSTOMER CARE

        A:

Color-fastness is not a term used much with nature wood flooring. Stained flooring can be better because of the colored stain will provide more of a uniformity and lasting color. Natural color flooring on the other hand will change with age and exposure to UV light. These changes will even out with time but can be very apparent in the first months to year or so. Generally lighter colored woods can darken and darker woods lighten. Occasionally rotating rugs and furniture is recommended.
