Virginia Mill Works Co.- 1/2" x 5" Richmond Plank- Prefinished Handscraped Engineered Flooring- 30 Year Warranty

Colonial American homes were built with wooden floors that were sawn using basic hand-held tools. The hand-crafted workmanship that went into those floors can be found in Virginia Mill Works handscraped floors.

About Handscraped Flooring:

Handscraped or distressed hardwood floors have a natural worn appearance. They look like floors from the days when floors were finished by hand.

About Engineered:
Hardwood veneer layers are stacked on one another, with the grain of the adjacent layers oriented perpendicular to each other.
Because wood expands and contracts in the direction of the grain, one layer stabilizes the next, resulting in a product that is less susceptible to the effects of moisture & temperature change.

It's simple...
Beautiful look. Beautiful quality. Beautiful price.

Comments about Virginia Mill Works 1/2" x 5" Richmond Plank Handscraped:

We had these floors installed in our dining room and our family room 4 years ago. We were so pleased with them that we decided to finish the remainder of our 1st floor this year. We did the foyer, hallway, staircase and our whole kitchen and we couldn't be happier with how it looks. We used to have a large dog (100 lbs Boxer) and he scratched up the floors pretty good but you can only see the scratches when the sunlight is shining on them, otherwise the durability seems to be pretty good.

Comments about Virginia Mill Works 1/2" x 5" Richmond Plank Handscraped:

We have this floor in our family room, and we are adding it to another room. It's beautiful, but the difficult part is that you can't really clean it easily. It says to only clean it with this special cleaner, and you can't ever really "wash" it, which I like to do. It can be scratched - I have had my chair move just right and scratch it. I bought pieces of carpet to put under the chair to protect it from further scratches.

We are very pleased with this wood, and love the way our new floors look. We installed about 600 sq feet this past weekend, without any problems. The only thing that we don't care for (although it's not major) is the slightly spongy feel of the floor (with the Quiet Walk pad). We were told, by LL, that the "spongy feeling" would lesson over time. We hope so, but we're still thrilled with the floors regardless.

I had this product installed in my family room and hallways which are my high traffic areas. It does scratch easily; however the scratches are surface scratches and really can't be seen when the floor is cleaned and polished. I even scratched past the surface, but because of the detailing of the hand-scraped design, you can't find the scratch unless it's pointed out. I have a teenager, a pre-teen and an 80lb German Shepard who remains indoors and we have absolutely no problems with our floors. It's been 8 mos since installation and I still receive many compliments. I have decided to use this product in my bedrooms as well as my formal living room, I Love It!!!

Comments about Virginia Mill Works 1/2" x 5" Richmond Plank Handscraped:

We decided to have our floor professionally installed because of lack of free time to do it ourselves. It was glued down. This makes it very quiet.

I had some doubts about putting the wood floor in the kitchen & entry, but Jack (the installer) assured me it would hold up to traffic. So far, no complaints and we have had the flooring for about 6 months.
This flooring cleans easily, I just dust mop it every day to pick up any sand or gravel that is brought in on shoes & clean it occasionally with the wood floor cleaner. We have a normal amount of traffic in our home, including 3 toddlers who visit often.
I have one small ding in the kitchen where I dropped a can, but other than that the whole floor looks great. Just use a little caution and common sense when moving furniture accross the floor to avoid scratching it.
I have received many comments on how nice the floor looks. One person said she was having her wood floor ripped out & replacing it with the handscraped type because she like the feel.

              • Q:

Can the 7/16 or 1/2" engineered hardwoods be installed over concrete floor with radiant heat in concrete?
Asked on 5/9/2013 by Rick from West Chester, Pa

                1 answer

                • CUSTOMER CARE

                  A:

Floating Engineered hardwood, tongue and groove engineered and certain laminate flooring can be used over most radiant heat.  Some flooring does perform better than others with radiant heat applications. The important thing is to follow the particular flooring manufacturer recommendations for radiant heat as well as sustaining recommended temperature and humidity. In addition the radiant heat manufacturer's recommended floor coverings must be considered as not all floors may be appropriate.

For more type, "radiant" here - http://www.lumberliquidators.com/ll/flooring/Flooring101

Does the color or finish of this Richmond Plank get lighter or darker with age and/or sunlight.
Asked on 5/7/2013 by Marti from Sacramento, Ca

                • CUSTOMER CARE

                  A:

Generally light floors turned darker and darker floors turn lighter with UV light exposure.

              • Q:

I bought this very floor and love it. Can I use the wet swiffer on this floor? The product says safe unless wood is unfinished or oiled or waxed, and I don't think this floor is any of these.
Asked on 5/4/2013 by dhall from Kennewick, WA

                1 answer

                • CUSTOMER CARE

                  A:

For general cleaning a swiffer type system works best. Not one that sprays the floor however. Lightly damp is fine but never soak or flood mop your floor. Do not use steam mops. Have a no shoes policy as much as possible. Use felt pads on all furniture. Sweep often.

Bellawood Cleaner works well, find here - http://www.lumberliquidators.com/ll/s/flooring-molding-tools-accessories/floor-care-products

In addition, Bona Kemi makes a decent hardwood flooring cleaner.

Do not use oil-type cleaner of any kind.

                  A:

All wood products are affected by environmental conditions, especially prefinished materials.
To control wood movement- expansion or shrinkage- it is recommended to acclimate the new flooring in the areas to be installed, not in (garages, U-Haul trailers, sheds, or tents) to normal lived-in conditions while in the boxes. If the products are protected in plastic then open the ends of the boxes. Length of time is not the determining factor. The goal of acclimation is for the core of the product to reach an equilibrium or moisture balance of the new flooring with its surroundings before installation or fastening. This balance could be achieved in as little as 1 to 5 days, or longer for some dense or oily exotic species.

                  Avoid shocking the floor.
Just like you, wood actually performs best with consistent indoor temperatures of 60°-80° F and indoor humidity levels of 30% - 50%. Very dry or humid regions of the country usually require extended conditioning. Maintaining the recommended acclimation levels even after the installation should be viewed as ongoing floor care. Your doing so will help to minimize board movement, excessive squeaks, finish cracking and gaps.

Hygrometers sold in most Target and Wal-Mart stores ($10-$45) can be used to easily identify the need to regulate the humidity or air moisture.
In addition, to prevent board warping or bowing, do not cut the plastic support bindings on the outside of the packaging until ready to install. Store products flat, in a dry place. Provide air flow under and around cartons. Do not store directly on bare concrete or next to outside walls. Cartons should be placed as close to the center of the installation area as possible.

Proper jobsite conditions, acclimation and moisture testing of the subfloor along with the new flooring all works together for the success of the installation and is the responsibility of those overseeing the project.

This can be refinished with an Abrader sander (like the FA-8 Flooring Abrader) rather than a traditional sander.

I have a couple of scratches on the floor, and I'd like to apply stain over them that matches the color of the wood. Is there any particular stain and color that I should use?

We live in a house that is 113 years old. There is no underlayment. Can this or other 1/2" thick flooring be put down and nailed to the floor joists or is a subfloor a necessity?

We installed this floor 3 years ago and we are now having trouble with seeping that is going on under the finish. The appearance is black spots that are spreading and it is really looking bad on the wood pieces. There is the appearance of bubbling. We will definitely have to refinish or put new pieces in. Please help us with this unsightly problem.
