Comments about BELLAWOOD 3/4" x 5" Select Bloodwood:

This is the prettiest floor you can buy and is one of the hardest to install.
Every hole had to be pre drill or it would spilt but despite its difficulties
    it was well worth it.

Comments about BELLAWOOD 3/4" x 5" Select Bloodwood:

Overall a very good quality product but about 5-10% of the boards are milled 1/16" or so narrower than the standard 5" face. It was helpful to cull these narrower boards, but some initial long runs trapped narrower boards and left unwanted gaps.Get ready to spend lots of time on your knees. Predrilling and hand nailing the tongue was the only way we found to successfully secure this very hard wood without spliting. (3/32" drill bit with holes at 45 degree angle, every 5-6", securing with 6d 2" finishing nails into 3/4" plywood subfloor and then coutersinking). When we started out nailing every 10 to 12" there was quite a bit of popping with heavier people walking around. The [...] website mentions nailing the wider exotics more frequently but didn't pick up on this at first. Investing in high quality blades for the miter and table saw was well worth it to get clean cuts.Finish on the bloodwood is amazing. We let the kids hammer on a scrap piece and not a dent. Also took a sharp awl to a scrap and had to exert quite a bit of pressure to make minor marks on the surface. Our living room and dining room run together and look out to a Japanese Maple garden and greenbelt beyond. The color and texture of the bloodwood is stunning, running up to the natural colors outside.

Comments about BELLAWOOD 3/4" x 5" Select Bloodwood:

I have installed several hardwood floors in many different species and finishes. However this is the most beautiful wood I have ever used. I purchased several lots of seconds during a clearance sale at my local store. The savings alone made the floor a good value....That was until the floor went down...I am without words. It changed the entire look of my home. I had the luxury of picking & choosing the boards to use and found some wonderful pieces. Well worth the little extra work.

Comments about BELLAWOOD 3/4" x 5" Select Bloodwood:

The Bloodwood is a unique flooring. The red color is not a stain, it is the actual color of the wood! This floor is a dramatic statement in your home and is not for all decors, but it is beautiful and exotic. A great choice for a dark library or den.

CAN THIS ITEM WORK ON KITCHEN FLOOR?
Asked on 8/4/2014 by NISAA from PHILA PENNA

        A:

Yes, hardwood is acceptable for installation in a kitchen. It is recommend to put a throw rug by the sink because an excess water can damage wood. You will need to wipe up any water that sit on the floor as soon as possible. Thank you for your inquiry

        A:

Engineered has a dimensional stability recommended for gluedown on flat and level tile or concrete. All 1/2" and under Solid Hardwood (and certain Virginia Mill Works and 3/4" shorts) can be glued as well but On or Above Grade only. Troweled on Moisture Barrier is recommended if subfloor is on grade concrete. Always use the same manufacturer of moisture barrier and adhesive.

You can glue to plywood or well secured flat level ceramic tile or concrete free of contaminates, moisture and sealers.

3/4" hardwood flooring can be installed over concrete if you use Elastilon as your installation system.

        A:

[EXOTIC WOOD NAILING TIPS]: Tongue fracture and surface dimpling during installation is common and can be minimized by (1) using the correct nail thickness, (2) using the recommended shoe adaptor, or (3) changing the angle of nail entry. Many installers will temporarily adjust the nailer angle by applying layers of duct tape to the bottom foot plate of the nailer. In addition, to reduce the occurrence of surface dimpling, the use of flooring nailers with a thinner 18-20 gage cleat nail may be needed for the harder exotics species. The use of the over-size base plate in order to distribute the driving force is encouraged. If however, surface dimpling or tongue fracture still occurs when nailing the denser species, drilling pilot holes and hand nailing may be required. Use caution when fastening the harder exotics with Staplers. The drive bar in Staplers are wider and if fasteners are overdriven can act like a wood chisel, splitting tongues. Do not mix fasteners when nailing. Staples and cleats hold differently when mixed can result in irregular seasonal gapping and or movement. When face or top nailing, pick areas of the grain or pattern that would best hide touch-up fillers. If nailers prove unsuccessful at fastening the lower profile 3/8”or 5/16” floors, many installers will use 100% urethane wood flooring adhesives rather than nailers, especially with the more brittle species like; Australian Cypress, Brazilian Walnut, Teaks.
