Comments about BELLAWOOD 3/4" x 3-1/4" Select Brazilian Chestnut:
In 2008 we started replacing carpet with the Brazilian chestnut. I loved the color but my wife had me throw out some of the knots and wild colors. We first had the living room, dinning room and hall done with the fifty year stuff. Since we didn't do the kitchen we had enough to do the master bedroom 2013. In 2014 I ordered enough 100 year chestnut to do one more bedroom. being 70 and retired I decided to do it myself. it turned out very well and I decided to get enough wood to do the last bedroom. It too turned out well but you are learning with every board. Even my ups man gave me some good installation advice. The finish on the flooring was different but being in separate rooms it wasn't a problem. I know we took chance by spreading the order times but everything worked out very well.

Q:I want to change the carpeting in the family room to a wood product. Not sure if I want hardwood or engineered for my purpose. The room has french doors directly from outside where kids come in with dripping bathing suits all summer long. Should I avoid wood products all together and just replace the carpet?
A:A spot like that would be best with a vinyl plank or ceramic/stone tile. Wood flooring products do not mix well with repeated water exposure.
Q:Can this floor be glued down? My contractor recommended we glue it in one portion of the house...
A:This is a solid 3/4" product designed to be nailed to a wood substrate.
Q:When installing over a dirt crawl space, is there a danger of warping from moisture? Is a vapor barrier used or recommended?
A:A layer of 6mil poly sheeting should be installed as a moisture barrier over dirt floor of crawl space. Crawl space should be well ventilated and excessive moisture free.
Q:I installed laminate flooring and used an underlayment with a plastic film and felt combo . Can I reuse th underlayment for noise dampening under my brazilian chestnut over a 3/4 " OSB above grade subfloor?
A:This would not be recommended.
Q:I have 2 large dogs, 2 cats and 5 kids, how does this wood stand up to that kind of torture. Is it industrial strength- should be the question that I am asking?
A:Despite today's advanced technology, water spills, dirt and other abrasive substances can damage a wood floor's finish. Location, traffic patterns, how often the floor is vacuumed and cleaned, children and/or pets are all factors that influence wear and durability.
Q:I have a large lab. When he drinks he drools excessively. I purchased large waterhog floor mats to contain the drooling. Is one variety wood better than another for this situation?
A:I truly don't think the species of a natural wood floor is going make much of a difference when it comes to wet spills. Keeping things wiped up is the best advise I can give.
Q:Is this flooring suitable to install over radiant heat tubing?
A:Where do I find installation instructions / product warranty information?
Q:do you have brazilian cherrywood
A:Yes, just type in brazilian cherry in the search box on our website and you will find several choices.
Q:How many days or hours to adjust before you can nail down.
A:ACCLIMATION/CONDITIONING OF THE FLOORING -SEE MOISTURE All wood products are affected by environmental conditions especially prefinished materials. Acclimate the new flooring in the areas to be installed to normal lived-in conditions while in the boxes. Length of time is not the determining factor. The goal is to reach a moisture equilibrium or balance between the new flooring with its surroundings before installation. This balance could be achieved in as little as 1 to 5 days, or longer for some exotic species. For best performance, condition the flooring to consistent indoor temperatures of 60°-80° F and indoor humidity levels of 30% - 50%. Very dry or humid regions usually require extended conditioning. Recommended acclimation levels maintained even after the installation will minimize board movement, excessive squeaks and gaps. Proper acclimation, moisture testing of the product and subfloor, even jobsite conditions all work together for the continued success of the installation and is the responsibility of those overseeing the project -the installer or wood floor owner. HANDLE WITH CARE To prevent board warping or bowing; do not cut the packaging plastic support bindings until ready to install. Do not stand flooring on ends or sides. Do not store directly on bare concrete or next to outside walls. Cartons should be placed as close to the center of the installation area as possible. Store flat supporting to the ends and center sections. Store in a dry place being sure to provide air flow under and around cartons. Keep out of direct sunlight and away from air vents.
