BELLAWOOD- 1/2" x 5" Select Brazilian Koa Prefinished Engineered Flooring- 100 Year Warranty!

One look and it's easy to see why Brazilian Koa is often called Tigerwood. Its distinctive orange coloring and brown/black striping make it one of the most unique and exotic species available on the market today. And its durability is simply outstanding, resulting in a "not-so-everyday" floor that will stand up year after year to life's everyday demands.
This product is proudly finished in the USA.

Cross-section of actual Bellawood Engineered flooring plank
 Multi-ply cross-layered wood core layer

Bellawood Engineered Hardwood Floors feature a multi-ply cross-layered wood core and a solid 3 mm thick veneer(dry-sawn top layer). This construction design offers more dimensional stability for wide planks, making them less susceptible to the climatic effects of moisture or dryness.

Other benefits of Bellawood Engineered Hardwood Floors include:

- Easy installation directly on slab, subfloor, linoleum, or tile.
- Better resistance to humidity and moisture changes (Virtually eliminates buckling and twisting)
- Attractive long length planks (up to 86") for the traditional hardwood look
- Variety of installation methods - can be nailed, glued or floated.
- More environmentally responsible use of woods.

Best of all, Bellawood Engineered Hardwood Floors feature a Lifetime Structural Warranty and 100 Year Bellawood Finish Warranty!

Crafted Meticulously. Harvested Responsibly. We understand the importance of healthy forests. That's why we only buy from suppliers who practice responsible harvesting and carefully manage their cutting with replanting strategies in place. For us, it's not just about being responsible citizens. It's about being a responsible business too.

Pros

    Cons

      Best Uses

I had it professionally installed by an installer through ( Roberts')Lumber Liquidators and his workmen did a marvellous job.
The only con was that they did not want to use the figured wood but the lightly colored ones more, while I like the figuring and wanted such pieces seen vividly.

        • Q:

will this product darken over time like cherry
Asked on 11/11/2013 by dave from boston

          1 answer

          • Staff Reviewer

            A:

Wood products can be dramatic in appearance, especially the exotics. Only factory made products such as tile, vinyl, and wallpaper will have uniformity of color. Keep in mind that wood and corks are natural product and no two installed floors will be identical. Variations in appearance are completely normal and are a desired characteristic. As your floor ages, color or shading called “patina” can occur. This process can be rapid the first 3 months, less in 6 months, then finishing off in about I year. Moving the furniture and rugs around helps to even out areas that were not exposed to light. Try to avoid large area rugs for the first 3 months.

All wood species can change color over time due to oxidation or when exposed to light. In some species, the change can be more dramatic and may darken in color over time, while others tend to lighten. Currently there is no known value set for Patina or color change of a species so contractors and or customers should be aware of this normal condition. The patina process is unrelated to the urethane finishes.

When installing wood floors, select boards from several boxes. Working from one box at a time can create poor color grouping or placement of any flooring. Any one board you feel is unacceptable to install can simply be discarded, replaced with the 5-10% overage you should have on hand.

Our living room has traffic through it to the bathroom from our outside pool. How well does engineered wood floors tolerate water?
          Asked on 9/22/2013 by Billy

          • Staff Reviewer

            A:

Despite today's advanced technology, water spills, dirt and other abrasive substances can damage a wood floor's finish. Location, traffic patterns, how often the floor is vacuumed and cleaned, children and/or pets are all factors that influence wear and durability.

I live in Guam which has a high humidity, about 70-75%. Can I use this engineered flooring for my house? Or any recommendations?
          Thank you.
Asked on 4/27/2013 by Yosh from Guam USA

          1 answer

          • Staff Reviewer

            A:

All of our flooring products are designed to be installed in climate controlled environment.
Being a natural product it will be subject to the effects of temperature and humidity. If proper heat and humidity levels are not maintained your flooring may shift, shrink, expand, gap or buckle. Thank you for your inquiry.

            Thank you for writing in.
All wood products are affected by environmental conditions, especially prefinished materials.
To control wood movement- expansion or shrinkage- it is recommended to acclimate the new flooring in the areas to be installed, not in (garages, U-Haul trailers, sheds, or tents) to normal lived-in conditions while in the boxes. If the products are protected in plastic then open the ends of the boxes. Length of time is not the determining factor. The goal of acclimation is for the core of the product to reach an equilibrium or moisture balance of the new flooring with its surroundings before installation or fastening. This balance could be achieved in as little as 1 to 5 days, or longer for some dense or oily exotic species.

            Avoid shocking the floor.
Just like you, wood actually performs best with consistent indoor temperatures of 60°-80° F and indoor humidity levels of 30% - 50%. Very dry or humid regions of the country usually require extended conditioning. Maintaining the recommended acclimation levels even after the installation should be viewed as ongoing floor care. Your doing so will help to minimize board movement, excessive squeaks, finish cracking and gaps.

Hygrometers sold in most Target and Wal-Mart stores ($10-$45) can be used to easily identify the need to regulate the humidity or air moisture.
In addition, to prevent board warping or bowing, do not cut the plastic support bindings on the outside of the packaging until ready to install. Store products flat, in a dry place. Provide air flow under and around cartons. Do not store directly on bare concrete or next to outside walls. Cartons should be placed as close to the center of the installation area as possible.

Proper jobsite conditions, acclimation and moisture testing of the subfloor along with the new flooring all works together for the success of the installation and is the responsibility of those overseeing the project.

          • CUSTOMER CARE

            A:

For general cleaning a swiffer type system works best. Not one that sprays the floor however. Lightly damp is fine but never soak or flood mop your floor. Do not use steam mops. Have a no shoes policy as much as possible. Use felt pads on all furniture. Sweep often.

Bellawood Cleaner works well, find here - http://www.lumberliquidators.com/ll/s/flooring-molding-tools-accessories/floor-care-products

In addition, Bona Kemi makes good and safe hardwood flooring cleaner.

Do not use oil-type cleaner of any kind.

            A:

Underlayment is not required for a direct glue product (hopefully you will never have to replace this 100 year warrantied product).
You could install this flloring in a floating application.

I have 3/4" bellawood koa 5" planks on half of my house, but would like to install the engineered product on the other half. Assuming I can get the surfaces to match up correctly, is there any drawback to this approach? Does the engineered and solid product look the same from above? Will thermal expansion be problematic at joints between rooms that have the different products?

Is it recommended to sand engineered floors considering the thickness of the veneer? Thanks
Asked on 10/25/2012 by Tom from Berlin, NJ

          1 answer

          • Staff Reviewer

            A:

Full refinishing will take slightly under a 1/32” off the veneer of the wood flooring. The thickness of the veneer and how much wear and dents a floor has will determine how many times it can be refinished. Solid hardwood that is ¾” thick may be refinished 4 to 7 or more times depending on how much wood was taken off on each refinishing. Low profile solid wood flooring like 5/16” thick flooring may be able to be refinished twice if the flooring is in good shape. Engineered flooring with a 1/8” wear layer or more will be able to be refinished at least once. If the engineered product has a 1/16” wear layer a professional sander may be able to refinish it, but many won’t take the chance in case they make a mistake and take too much off the wear layer. We recommend that hardwood floor refinishing be done by a professional and if your not sure if you can refinish your flooring have professional sand and finish expert come to your home and evaluate your flooring. Thank you for your inquiry
