Ok for the price

Bought 7,000sf and installed it. The main problem was the random lengths. There are way to many short pieces. It is next to impossible to stager joints with any distance between the other run. These are T&G on all sides. Only one to cut is either the start or last piece. Now 6 months later it feels like some are cupping or have a roll in the width, you can feel that with bare feet. The last house I built I installed unfinished 1x4 T&G Oak. Then hired a finisher to come in and finish but it came in around $10.00 sf. All in all it is a good floor for the price.

Very Pleased With LL's Red Oak Flooring

By Bob D

from Saco. Maine

Verified Reviewer

Pros

  • 2014 Mid-term Elections
  • No Blemeshes

Cons

  • none

Best Uses

We purchased 200 sq. ft. of LL's red oak hardwood flooring. Unlike a local Maine chain of discount stores, (which we purchased from previously), most of the flooring pieces were usefully long. The discount chain's flooring pieces were mostly 6-12", which means installation takes much longer--and more expensive for the completed job.

There were absolutely no blemishes on any of the pieces from LL.

    Service and delivery comments:

We picked up our flooring using our pickup truck.

The sales staff was extremely friendly and helpful and gave us a very competitive price that made our shopping at Lumber Liquidators very pleasant.

    Pros

    • Do It Yourselfer Stuff
    • Easy Install
    • Good Variation Of Sizes

    Cons

    • For Select Wood
    • Of Bad Boards
    • To Many Grays And Knots
    • Too Many Color Variations
    • Way To Much Waste

    Best Uses

THis was easy to install. I am paticular of good quality and this was borderline. It is considered select wood BUT I had waste of more than 60sqft out of 450sqft and had to go back and buy three more boxes when I already purchased for 10% waste as suggested by salesman. So with that in mind you might want to consider spending $2 more per square and get the top quality wood.

      • Bedroom
      • Large Spaces With Waste
      • Small To Medium Spaces

Installed in small dining area and all pieces but one with a knot in the corner installed tightly. We found this product was more like natural grade so account for some extra waste. We trimmed or scrapped a lot of knots and flaws for select grade hardwood. There were also a lot of shorts in most of the boxes. Some of the few longer pieces had large sections of damaged or flawed tongues. Aside from the extra time in layout and cuts to work around the flaws, we were happy with the ease of installation.

      • Living Room

There's more variation in colors than anticipated, but it will darken with age. They dispersed boards well at installation. There are a couple of spots that I keep wanting to bend over to pick up a black thing on the floor, but it is a knot. I would have used a different piece, we had plenty of extras to choose from. They refunded the surplus unopened box with no restocking fee.

We installed 450 square feet of this floor and had mayby two pieces that we put aside. We also had to cut the tounge a bit shorter on three or four pieces. We didn't take the time to see if it was the tounge too long or the groove too shallow. It was easy to cut in place with a Multi Master reciprecating tool. No need to remove the piece. Very straight, long lengths, nice mixture. Very happy with the product. The customer was also very happy with the product.

Can this product be refinished in in later years if needed?
            Asked on 11/3/2012 by Dissatisfied

            • Staff Reviewer

              A:

              Yes it can.
Full refinishing will take slightly under a 1/32” off the veneer of the wood flooring. Solid hardwood that is ¾” thick may be refinished 4 to 7 or more times depending on how much wood was taken off on each refinishing. We recommend that hardwood floor refinishing be done by a professional and if your not sure if you can refinish your flooring have professional sand and finish expert come to your home and evaluate your flooring. Thank you for your inquiry.

              A:

Hardwood floors are acceptable for installation in a kitchen. We highly recommend placing a throw rug by the sink because an excess of water can damage any floor. These floorings are water resistant relative to normal spills but not water-proof. Any soaking spills will destroy any flooring with the exception of ceramic or stone tile. You should have no issues with an active 11 lbs. dog running on it. Please feel free to contact our product specialists at 1-800-476-0007 with any other questions or to further discuss your project. Thank you for your inquiry.
