The heartwood is a light brown color and some boards have a pinkish tint or a slight grayish cast.  The sapwood is white to cream.
White Oak's grain is open, with longer rays than Red Oak and occasional swirls and burls.

Please note unfinished flooring is sold in open, strapped bundles and not sold in boxes.  This product  must be purchased in bundles.  Bundle size may vary.

Comments about R.L. Colston 3/4" x 4-1/4" White Oak:

This is not at all what I expected from "Select" level of product. The color consistency is good and the combination of lengths is reasonable (there are short boards - about 10%), but the quality of manufacturing is very poor. Many boards cut out of square, off from dimension by 1/16" (that will be visible once finished) on the width and height. Overall, I'm just very disappointed. I'm not a pro, so finishing this floor is very difficult, based on extra sanding needed to get it into plane and using a lot of filler to fill all of the gaps. Once finished it looks good, but once again, I would not expect all of these issues in a "Select" product (this is what "rustic" quality would be at more expensive shops). With all of that filler, I'm not sure if the gaps won't come to hunt me after one Detroit winter. [FYI - put in 1000+ s.f., with 400 stained and remainder left natural; using Bona products to finish]

      Comments about R.L. Colston 3/4" x 4-1/4" White Oak:

This was installed in both our kitchen and living room because the laminate we had would not hold up to our 7 children. This was time consuming to install and finish but was well worth the effort. The quality was well beyond my expectation with less than 5% waste. The width was a great choice and the white oak is less "oaky" as my wife put it. That is it has a better and straighter grain than the red oak. So if you are on the fence don't be this you wont regret.

Very easy to install and looks wonderful. We built a single step
with it from the kitchen to the
great room. It was everything we
had wanted and perhaps even better.

This product contains an extraordinary amount of small pieces, making it difficult to install in large rooms.

In addittion, Lumber Liquidators shorted us 120 sf of product. Our experience with this vendor has been terrible.

My subfloor is 3/4" particle board over 1/2" plywood. I plan to add a lyer of 3/8" plywood on top. Should I use construction adhesive or tar paper between the layers? Fasteners will be 2" staples.

Square edge means that the top edges of the plank will be square with no bevel. All of our solid wood flooring products will have a tongue and groove connection.
