Comments about Elastilon Self Adhesive Underlayment:
I was installing Strand Bamboo over a pressed board underlayment and didn't want to rip out all of the particle board--so my only options were glue or the Elastilon. Checked company's site for videos. What they don't show you is the fact that...if you get more than three boards without pulling out the top "skim" sheet then it starts to snag on the boards, rip, and tear. Now you have chunks of your floor that are not on the sticky underlayment. If you know that...it's not too bad to work with, and better than glue.
A tip to Elastilon: Spend some $ and produce real INSTRUCTIONAL videos.

Wow! I'm so glad we went this route. There was no messy clean up. No smell. We could walk on the floor immediately. We didn't have to learn how to glue our flooring down (we have concrete beneath our hardwood).
This allowed us to put hardwood on top of concrete. We were all beginners, and this was SO easy to do.
The only issue we ran into was occasionally having the elastilon plastic tear and get stuck under the boards, but it was RARE, and we were always about to fix it. I can't get over how easy it was.

Comments about Elastilon Self Adhesive Underlayment:
I have over 25 years experience in the construction industry, mostly in high-end home building, and this is one of the best products I have ever seen.
I have glued down flooring, I have nailed flooring, I have glued and nailed flooring - this is by far the fastest, easiest and cleanest application. You will save time not only in the application process, but also in clean up - as the glue will get all over everything, no matter how much you try, you will spend many hours cleaning up the glue.
Additional benefits lie in its value as a sound-proofing. This product has a higher sound rating than any other product I have used - which is perfect for use in condominiums and upper floors.

Comments about Elastilon Self Adhesive Underlayment:
I watched the Utube video on installation. Our under floors are concrete. It gave us some great starting tips. But it doesn't tell you how to install when you get to the last couple of rows. It took a little time to figure out how best to do that for us. But the floor looks great! And there is no noise when walking on it! Its expensive, but well worth the price.

Comments about Elastilon Self Adhesive Underlayment:
Elastilon has been around for some years in Europe, and thanks to Lumber Liquidators is apparently making some inroads here in North America. Basically a foamy one-sided adhesive mat, it make laying flooring as simple as peel-n-stick. No nails, no glue, no mess. The only catch is that boards need to be VERY straight and true -- you don't have the same level of forcible alignment that a nail gun would provide. But provided you've judiciously selected boards that meet this standard, this is a perfect choice for laying solid 3/4" hardwood over concrete (my installation) or many other uses.

Comments about Elastilon Self Adhesive Underlayment:
Able to install 3/4" hardwood over tile glued to concrete thanks to elastilon. No messing around with installing plywood subfloor first thank goodness. It's expensive but if you have to buy some kind of underpayment and plywood for subfloors in order to install your hardwood then consider elastilon as it may end up being cost effective not to mention way easier for you. It took 2-3 beginners (all handy with tools) one day to lay a small room. Doing a whole house so its an 8 day project. Start in a bedroom and you will get the hang of it for the next rooms. You may want to make sure you buy higher grade boards to use with elastilon as warped ones can't really be bent into place all that much. You must be sure to use blue painters tape before pulling film. Hard to believe but it really will hold those joints in place for you.

Comments about Elastilon Self Adhesive Underlayment:
Save the scrap film it helps when you are laying the wood down. The film has to pull back over its self to release. It is sticky and unforgiving, don't press down hard until you know its perfect.

I have a lineloeum tile floor i will be installing this over. Some of the tiles lifted and were removed when the old carpet was removed. I used self leveling compound to fill in the areas where the existing tiles once were. My question is will I run into problems if there are spots that are not quite flush? These areas are any where from a 1/4" wide with depths of 1/16" or less. Im concerned if I have to do any sanding on the leveling compound that has gotten on some of the surrounding tiles. I think I will be ok as the foam on this product looks like it could compensate for some imperefections in the floor. I just want to make sure i have my floor prepped right before going ahead!1 answer

Does Bellawood have a system to be used over a concrete floor with radiant heat1 answer
CUSTOMER CARE
A:
Elastilon can be used with high stability solid hardwood flooring but is best with engineered over radiant heat systems. Use of an approved wood flooring water or electrical radiant subfloor heating system is approved when installed either within or above the concrete/wood subfloor. The heating system should be run 3 to 4 days prior to the installation at a reduced temperature of 64F (18c). Two days after the installation is complete, the temperature of the system may be raised gradually over a one week period to its desired operating temperature. Please note that the surface temperature of flooring should never exceed 81F (27C).
