Virginia Mill Works Co.- 3/4" x 7" Stone Island Palace Maple Prefinished Handscraped Solid Flooring- 30 Year Warranty

Colonial American homes were built with wooden floors that were sawn using basic hand-held tools. The hand-crafted workmanship that went into those floors can be found in Virginia Mill Works handscraped floors.

About Handscraped Flooring:
Handscraped or distressed hardwood floors have a natural worn appearance. They look like floors from the days when floors were finished by hand.
Please note this product is a nominal 3/4" thick, but due to its scraping process the thickness may be as thin as 5/8" in the scraped areas.

  • Q:

I was told by someone that planks this wide need to be both glued AND nailed. Is this true? If so, is it then impossible to use an underlayment?
    Thanks!

  • Q:

Does this wood have any UV protection on it? I am concerned with having to close the blinds to prevent fading.

      A:

All wood species can change color over time due to oxidation or when exposed to light. In some species, the change can be more dramatic and may darken in color over time, while others tend to lighten. Currently there is no known value set for Patina or color change of a species so contractors and or customers should be aware of this normal condition. The patina process is unrelated to the urethane finishes.

  • Q:

I have two large dogs and a piano. I worry about dents and scratches. Is that a problem with this floor?

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

I have a Bellawood floor that holds up extremely well to our Hound Mix, Pit-Boxer, a medium size mutt and a cat. Not to mention nieces, nephews, and work shoes. Excellent finish. It's not scratch free but no wood floor could be with these dogs. Harder floors like hickory (41% harder than Red Oak) or exotic floors will dent less easily. 3/4" hardwood can also be refinished several times. LIGHT COLORS will hide potential scratches. Remember nothing is scratch proof but some do better than others.

Our Schon engineered flooring and this Virginia Mill Works has 7 coats of Treffert or Klumpp (made in Germany) highly resistant polyurethane finish with aluminum oxide anti-scratch and a 55% gloss. Being a natural material it may dent easier than laminate but it's real wood. Engineered can be refinished carefully once or twice. Handscraped flooring like this may be refinished with an Abrader type sander.

For Bamboo our Morning Star and Bellawood brand has a superior finish and offers the hardest type of bamboo floor produced, "Strand Bamboo". It can be refinished too but only by professionals with bamboo experience as it's a grass product and more difficult than hardwood. Stranded would be my only choice if going with bamboo.

Resilient Vinyl flooring is a very tough floor and the most resistant against damp areas and is most resistant to accidents.

Our higher warranty Laminate flooring holds up very well to dog nails and wear but cannot be refinished. Advantage is it's less expensive both for product and labor. Higher Warranty the better.

Regardless of the floor you choose, keeping nails trimmed is a good idea. Another idea is to cover nails with vinyl claw covers.

Proper care always helps. For general cleaning a swiffer type system works best. Not one that sprays the floor however. Lightly damp is fine but never soak or flood mop your floor. Have a no shoes policy as much as possible. Use felt pads on all furniture. Sweep often. Urine, when cleaned up quick isn't an issue but if left to dry it can burn finish.

Bellawood Cleaner works very well, find it here - http://www.lumberliquidators.com/catalog/section.jsp?categoryId=19

  • Q:

can this be used for commercial use? Bar/ restaurant
    Asked on 10/20/2013 by jb

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Theoretically yes. Its commercial warranty is 5 years. Wood flooring as well as laminate and engineered flooring can be used in most all homes. The problem you may face in a restaurant is heavy spills and clean-up. You can not flood mop these floors. They are basically like taking care of furniture (with a very strong finish). See wary and installation instructions by typing, "Virginia Mill" here - http://www.lumberliquidators.com/ll/flooring/Flooring101

In addition type "Care" for maintenance recommendations.
