Virginia Mill Works Co.- 5/8" x 4-7/8" Sunset Mountain Oak Prefinished Handscraped Easy Click Solid Flooring- 30 Year Warranty

This flooring can be floated (recommended), stapled (optional) or glued (optional).

A beautiful handscraped butcher block solid wood floor that can be installed in all levels of the house, including basements! A true do-it-yourself REAL SOLID WOOD product - no glue, no nails, no mess - installs just like laminates. Features the easy installation method of dropping and locking. Solid wood butcher block construction is more stable than traditional solid wood floors and offers durability and structure. Each plank is completely sealed (top, back and sides). In addition, the pattern effects of the construction make for a great look that adds character to the flooring.

Colonial American homes were built with wooden floors that were sawn using basic hand-held tools. The hand-crafted workmanship that went into those floors can be found in Virginia Mill Works handscraped floors.

About Handscraped Flooring:
Handscraped or distressed hardwood floors have a natural worn appearance. They look like floors from the days when floors were finished by hand.
Please note this product is a nominal 3/4" thick, but due to its scraping process the thickness may be as thin as 5/8" in the scraped areas

This was my husband and my first attempt at installing a wood floor. Our neighbor had a terrible time with a glue and nail hardwood and I was concerned about laminate durability. This solid hardwood click install floor was the best of both worlds--easy to install and very durable. The prep work (ripping out old carpet and tack strip) and setting a line to start were the most difficult parts of the installation. I would not hesitate to use this product again!

The wood itself is lovely but not all planks are created equal - especially the shorter ones. If I had to do it all over again I'd select a different product. Beware of the width of the planks. If you get one that is not cut exactly plumb, a gap will occur and that plank will set about 1/8 inch lower than the level plane of the floor. With that gap in one piece, the gap will stair-step its way all across the floor to the wall. This doesn't look good and the pieces won't lock into place as they should. Some planks are also warped making the fitting less than a snap. If you must have this floor, proceed carefully and be prepared to throw out quite a bit that is less than a perfect fit. If you proceed, you'd better also have brown caulk with you to fill in gaps that occur from poor fitting or warped product.

I installed 500 square feet in my LR, Foyer hall and upstairs hall. Overall very satisfied. The only negative I can cite is that each box contained one board replaced with shorter versions. Sometimes it was a 2/3 borad and a 1/3 board. But 90% of the time it was three 1/3 boards. The 1/3 boards are not nearly as usefull as the 2/3. Seems like they were trying to pawn off excess short pieces.

We installed this floor (600 sf) in our ranch house three months ago and couldn't be happier. The install in the main room was a breeze but halls and closets can slow down installation. We had the whole job done in 8 hours.

We used a power mitre saw to cut the segment lengths and a Sears table saw to rip the edges where necessary. All of the pieces "clicked" together easily or with a few taps to a block with a rubber mallet.

We have a large dog (70lbs) and have not seen any scratches or marks created by his claws.

                      A:

No. Water-based urethane finished flooring care:

For general cleaning a swiffer type system works best. Not one that sprays the floor however. Lightly damp is fine but never soak or flood mop your floor. Do not use steam mops. Have a no shoes policy as much as possible. Use felt pads on all furniture. Sweep often.

Bellawood Cleaner works well (use as directed),

In addition, Bona Kemi makes a decent hardwood flooring cleaner.

Do not use oil-type cleaner or wax of any kind.

                  • Q:

Based on a few conversations I've had with flooring people as well as internet research, the advice I'm getting is NOT to install solid hardwoods floating, because it will warp or cup since it's not secured to anything.

The instructions for installing this product indicate that it must be floated on a concrete slab, so how is this product different than traditional solid hardwoods that allows it be installed like that?

I really like this floor, but I want to be assured that it will not deteriorate after install.

Despite today's advanced technology, water spills, dirt and other abrasive substances can damage a wood floor's finish. Location, traffic patterns, how often the floor is vacuumed and cleaned, children and/or pets are all factors that influence wear and durability. We strongly recommend cleaning any spills immediately.

Absolutely, in dry basement of course. A 6 to 8 mil poly sheeting moisture barrier should be laid for floating floors for an On or Below Grade Concrete subfloor. Overlap seams 4-6" and tape with duct tape. Overlay perimeter 3-4" up wall. Then lay an approved underlayment for floating flooring. Foam Underlayment, Eco Silent Sound, Insulayment. Bellawood Premium Underlayment, or Quiet Walk underlayment for floating floors.

Not really, think about it if these dogs destroyed the finish on concrete I doubt that pre-finished wood will hold up as wood is softer than concrete.
