Great Value if you know what to expect!!

    Comments about 3/4" x 2 1/4" Utility Oak Flooring:

I built a countertop and bar top from this stuff and it came out great. If you go into this with your eyes wide open realizing you are going to have to throw some away, you will be quite happy. I had about 25% waste after cutting out some bad spots. The good pieces will end up pretty short or are pretty short "out of the box." One thing I did not realize though is that there really are some pieces that are totally unusable for anything but firewood (which it is great for, incidentally). I figured, I can live with some knots and cracks, etc. NO. There is some that is just plain UNUSABLE! Not too many, but you WILL have firewood left over. Probably around 5-10% is like this. So be aware. Another 15% is perfect (although short) and the rest is somehwere in the middle - some can be salvaged by cutting the bad spots out, some could be ripped for an edge, etc. For price though, it is pretty unbelieveable and I would definitely buy it again.

    Too much unusable material

    Comments about 3/4" x 2 1/4" Utility Oak Flooring:

I purchased this flooring to use in my gunsmithing shop. I needed a very sturdy floor that would not mar any firearms inadvertently dropped on it, and one I could stand on for long periods. Floor was to be left unfinished, strictly utility. Job was 1080SqFt, bought 2100SqFt. I expected a lot of waste & planned ahead. It was in two loads which I hauled as local LLiq had only enough for about 1/4 job in stock. Planned on lots of ripping to get usable pieces and much top nailing. of this load, about 1/3 could go down as designed; rest had to be ripped and fitted. LOTS of culling. About 50% had serious structural problems, making it unusable even for a shop. These defects were mostly shake and splits (whole pieces spilt lengthwise) , but with crook and kiln drying cracking too. Much warp, wane, and bark taking up to 90% of the piece. I expected to have to rip and top nail, but these pieces (50%+) simply could not be salvaged in any way and used. Second load (1500SqFt) was worse. I was once a US Government inspector and have attended several week-long training classes in lumber grading. I actually
bought oak for the Government in all grades including pallet lumber. These would not qualify even for that. It looks like the mill got an order for my second load, so they simply emptied the scrap bins and bundled the discards. I'm good at making parts fit, and have lots of floor laying experience, plus this use completely disregarded appearance and I accepted LOTS of knots, bad fits, needs to fill cracks, etc. Even though the standards I set on this job was very low; most of the pieces, even with ripping and top nailing, this did not even reach that level. The defects were STRUCTURAL. They simply could not be made to work by any means. I'd say overall, 75% of the bundles shuld have been fed into the boilers. It was not a good value, even at .88/SqFt.

the variation in color and grain are amazing but be sure to get plenty extra and sort things out. The bundles I got had a lot of crazy splits and there were some pretty wild knots that had to be trimmed out or thrown out altogether, however the usable boards went together fine and now look pretty great.

        Comments about 3/4" x 2 1/4" Utility Oak Flooring:

This floor was a ton of work, don't be fooled. However, the end result is beautiful if you have the time & energy. We put it in as the entire floor for a backyard studio cottage. It has made the look of the space. We didn't have as much waste as a lot of people have describe because we used most the pieces with big knots & holes. We filled the holes with wood bondo dyed black and the spread an entire layer of wood filler over the floor before sanding it. We sanded the floor with three passes of the sander, slowly decreasing the grit of the sand paper. We then stainid the floor with a "walnut" colored stain, only one pass. We then applied a sealer and three cotes of oil-based finish. Like I said, lots of work, but great results. I'm attaching time lapseed video of different stages of the process. The floor has tons of character, and that is what we wanted.

        Comments about 3/4" x 2 1/4" Utility Oak Flooring:

There is a lot of time involved in selecting pieces and installation is probably 3 to 4 time longer than premium grade floors but the rustic look is very appealing.

            Comments about 3/4" x 2 1/4" Utility Oak Flooring:

We used the Utility Oak in the kitchen & dining room. Each piece is beautifully unique. It is not the all-one-type of flooring you see in new construction cookie-cutter homes. People come into our house and just stare at the gorgeous variations or oak. You can use this flooring to match current hard wood. We had revealed a house full of Utility oak under carpeting in a 1970's house we remodeled. You cannot tell where the old floor ends and the new begins, it is that awsome. Lumber Liquidators made it possible for us to afford to do this project. We will return to buy Utility Oak for our new Great Room. They are right. No Gimmicks!Just great deals!

              Comments about 3/4" x 2 1/4" Utility Oak Flooring:

Was expecting 30% waste. Was more 40 to 50% waste, and this is with using pieces wit lots of defects (cracks, holes, missing tongue, variable color, shorts pieces 1/2 in, no tongue on the whole length, thickness down to 1/2in, etc...). It is still worth it for a cottage/beach house with a rustic/utility look. on picture, pile on the left is OK, pile on the right cannot be used.

I am installing this over a painted concrete slab. Can this be glued down to the concrete, or is there another installation method recommended? Also, I am installing this over plywood on the second floor of my home. How does it need to be installed over the plywood? Are there other materials that need to be put in between? Can it be glued to the plywood, or do I need to buy a nail gun?

I have been told by others that have had this type of flooring that if they spilled something on it that you have to wipe it up right away, or the floor will sell up where it is wet. I have kids that will be spilling on it and I need to know if this is true. If this is true is there anything to buy to do a overcoat to seal it so this doesn't happen

This is an unfinished floor and will require sanding & finishing to protect the "raw" wood from liquid spills.

Description describes square edge or v-groove.

I'm familiar with the standard tongue and groove but this is

                new to me.

                Can you describe this configuration?

                Thanks.

This is regarding the edge treatment in relation to having a square top surface or a mini-bevel on the edges.
