Comments about Vintner's Reserve Laminate Stair Nose:

This was great to use on the step down from one room to the next, however, it only had a small set of directions printed on the bottom and they were not that clear to read. Luckily for me, my father in law is very handy and was able to do his magic to make it look great. If you can get it in, the finalized look from it is well worth it where it matches the floor perfectly.

        • Q:

When installing the laminate planks and stair nose do I cut them flush to the wall or do I still need to leave the spaces on the sides for expansion?
Asked on 5/2/2013 by Ray from Charleston, SC

          • Staff Reviewer

            A:

On the steps you can cut them relatively tight.
For safety reasons these must be fully glued using urethane adhesives, do not use underlayments.

I just bought the Stair Nose and it looks very skinny to me. What is the overall dimension of this stair nose. Has a very small lip as well. Did I get shipped the right product.

            A:

This is 2-3/8" wide X 3/4" thick, it has a 1/2" overlap that covers the edge of the floor.

        • Q:

When installing laminate, how much space should be cut away from stair edge to accommodate for installation of the stair noses? What is the measurement from the back of the stair nose to the overlap for the laminate floor?
Asked on 9/29/2012 by Travis from Champlin, MN

          • CUSTOMER CARE

            A:

Generally, you would leave 1-5/8" (41mm) distance between the outer edge of the riser and the laminate floor. However it is best to wait for all parts to be delivered before fitting and installing.

        • Q:

If the nosing is designed to overlap the flooring on the stair, that means there will be a lip, correct? It will not be flush? Is there a way to make it flush? We had our stairs installed with the lip and I'm not sure if they were done correctly because of the big lip that you can't help but step on - not comfortable at all. How big is the 'overlap' supposed to be?

            1) Yes, correct,
            2) The overlap portion of the nosing is about 3/16' thick,

This nosing is designed to overlap the flooring to allow the floating laminate expand and contract. (does not attach to the laminate)

If one stair nose is 7.5 foot wide...I assume most people can get more than one stair out of it? For example...the step in by house are around 3 foot wide.

        • Q:

I want to overlay an existing stair tread with the St James Vintner collection 12MM laminate, and use the stair nose to finish the tread. The existing treads are unfinished pine 2X12 (1-1/2" X 11")
pine boards, and I need to have the dimensions of the stair nose, how it integrates with the snap joint on the laminate, and how it overhangs the front of the stair tread. A sectional drawing would be helpful. Thank you

            A:

Yes, each step needs stairnosing to finish the edge. We do have matching stair treads available for most of our laminates (these cover the entire tread in one piece). Please call our sales dept. @ (800) 476-0007 for pricing and availability.
