Virginia Mill Works Co.- 1/2" x 5" Wagon Birch- Prefinished Stained Handscraped Engineered Flooring- 30 Year Warranty

Colonial American homes were built with wooden floors that were sawn using basic hand-held tools. The hand-crafted workmanship that went into those floors can be found in Virginia Mill Works handscraped floors.

Length: 1-4' (400mm-1200mm)

Quick Highlights:
- Superior Strength and Stability
- Handscraped Engineered
- Nail, Glue or Float Installation
- Backed with a 30 Year Warranty

About Handscraped Flooring:
Handscraped or distressed hardwood floors have a natural worn appearance. They look like floors from the days when floors were finished by hand.

About Engineered:
Hardwood veneer layers are stacked on one another, with the grain of the adjacent layers oriented perpendicular to each other.
Because wood expands and contracts in the direction of the grain, one layer stabilizes the next, resulting in a product that is less susceptible to the effects of moisture & temperature change.

Did you know?
An estimated 60-70 million Americans are affected by house dust, which can cause itchy eyes, sneezing, rashes, breathing difficulty and sinus trouble because of trapped pollens and molds in carpets, upholstery and curtains.
Not even frequent vacuuming will eliminate those microscopic troublemakers.

We caught up with real Lumber Liquidators' customers who volunteered to discuss their floor shopping, buying and installation experiences. In no way did these customers receive compensation for their kind words. (They're speaking straight from the heart.)

  • Q:

I have the same question as below, after installing the floor looks dull and milky! When it was installed it had a nice sheen - but as soon as it was dry dust mopped it developed this dull color and has no sheen. I have tried using the Bellawood cleaner that was recommended by the salesperson at lumber liquidators but that doesn't improve it - i have tried a lightly dampened cloth which also didn't help I have a similar product, though not the wagon birch installed in a vacation home and haven't had this problem - this is not attractive!

  • Q:

We just had 1300 sq/ft of this installed in our house and it looks ok. The reason for the ok is that the floor is very dull and appears to have some type of milky coating on top? How or rather what can I use to get these floors to shine?

  • Q:

Is this more scratch resistant than non-engineered hardwood? Can it be refinished if needed?

      A:

The Virginia Millworks products have a great durable finish, that is very scratch resistant, but not scratch proof. Large dogs can potentially scratch any wood floor finish. To help prevent scratches from dog nails, it’s best to keep them trim and dull, or cover them with special dogs nail covers. They also sell dog booties at major pet stores and online to prevent dogs from scratching floors and furniture. Scratches can be concealed with wood stain markers. Deep scratches can be filled with a wax color pencil/stick designed for wood flooring. To restore the original shine of a solid hardwood, bamboo, cork, and engineered floor a screen and re-coat may be needed or a complete refinishing. A professional sand and finish expert would have to make the determination on site on which sanding process will be needed or which can be done to restore the floors shine. Not all engineered floors can be refinished because of having a thin veneer layer.

  • Q:

will the engineered hard wood flooring fade with exposure to sun light?
    Asked on 11/7/2013 by Andrews

      A:

All wood species can change color over time due to oxidation or when exposed to light. In some species, the change can be more dramatic and may darken in color over time, while others tend to lighten. Currently there is no known value set for Patina or color change of a species so contractors and or customers should be aware of this normal condition. The patina process is unrelated to the urethane finishes. Thank you for your inquiry.

  • Q:

Hi. We have 4 small children and I worry about scratches and dents with the darker stain (i.e. can you see chips of light wood coming through if they scratch or nick the finish?). I really like the look of the very dark hand-scraped engineered hardwood, but worry about nicks....should I go with something lighter?

Despite today's advanced technology, water spills, dirt and other abrasive substances can damage a wood floor's finish. Location, traffic patterns, how often the floor is vacuumed and cleaned, children and/or pets are all factors that influence wear and durability.

Pets need a rug for drool and wet coats. Be sure to keep all toys, bones, etc. that have hard corners away from the floor. Also, be sure to trim your pet’s nails regularly
      to avoid deep scratches.

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Wood flooring can be installed through out the home, but there are concerns about installation in bathrooms. Bathrooms are areas of high moisture. With full baths there are concerns with water spills, high humidity due to steamy showers, and toilet over flows. Elevated moisture in a full bath can create finish issues, board warping, and buckling. When installing in these areas extreme caution is advised and it is recommended to choose wood flooring with high stability. Make sure you have good air flow and use mats to absorb moisture when coming out of the tube or shower. Many wood floors will not be warranted in a bathroom application. An alternative would be our Tranquility vinyl Click flooring. The Tranquility vinyl click flooring looks like real wood, but will not be affected by moisture like wood floors.
