Cons

It is a geat product however, I don't really know if I had to use it because the flooring I bought already had a padding add to it for moisture.

      Does the job!!!

      By SkiAtomic20

Sufficient vapor barrier which is what you need for hardwood. No need to buy the special sound dampening expensive underlayment. Installed on our first floor with an unfinished basement.

I didn't know the vapor paper moved as much as it did. I didn't have tape. Made it harder...

I am very pleased with the flooring product as well as the contractors who installed them. It is so nice to find people who 'do it right the first time'.

      Silicone paper is good underlayment

      By Jimi the homeowner

      from STL

      Verified Reviewer

Because of irregularities in subfloor, silicone paper was applied over felt paper in places.

      • Q:

I have 1/2 inch thick engineered hardwood going over a wood subfloor with radiant heat tubing stapled directly below subfloor so I'd rather float the floor than staple or nail it because I dont want to hit a pipe. I'm in need of an underlayment with as little R value as possible. So my question is can the silicone paper be used as an underlayment for a floating 1/2 thick engineered hardwood floor?
Asked on 12/14/2015 by Josh from Belmont, NH

        • Staff Reviewer

          A:

Unfortunately not, you will need an appropriate "supporting cushion".
Our Eco Silent sound has the lowest R value of 0.23.

Im looking for a underlayment for use underneath laminate wood planks on a wood sub floor? Its for a mobile home in a 4 season, cold climate winters. Im concerned with moisture but also would this help with insulating? With a tight budget.

        Thanks

        • CUSTOMER CARE

          A:

Silpaper can help reduce moisture vapor from migrating under the subfloor to the flooring. However more important is assuring that any dirt base under the structure is covered with 6-8 mil poly sheeting and proper drainage is there.
