it's silicone paper, what is there to say, though the stuff seems pretty tough -- I beat it up pretty good putting it in and it took the punishment.

                          • Mediocre Underlayment

This product is passable as a hardwood flooring underlayment relative to traditional rosin paper. However for starters how about giving me the 400 square feet for which I've paid? After reading the reviews of others reporting short rolls, I carefully measured every lineal inch which came off the 33.5" roll (not 34" as LL claims) and found I'd received a 360 square foot roll. So I suppose I'll need another roll to finish my 380 SF job.

Second the slippery nature of the paper is a mixed bag. Beneficial in one sense as boards slide easily when racking the floor. However the lack of friction leaves the cleat nails as the only means to snug boards together, close gaps, and straighten bowing in boards. You get far more springback due to the lack of friction (compared to traditional rosin paper) and wind up using more nails to do the job. Besides consuming more nails, when installing dense woods the frequency of splitting increases with additional nailing. So I wouldn't give it any points here.

Also the concept of a functional vapor barrier which is then riddled with cleat nail holes seems to me more of a marketing dream. I don't think this is really going to offer any benefit in that respect.

Bottom line is it works, sort of. But I don't find any practical benefit relative to rosin paper. Furthermore with this stuff being over 200% more expensive and getting short changed on the advertised square footage I can't really recommend it.

Nice, cheap and simple to install. Nothing much to say about this product since I have not had it in my home more than a month. I installed it over an OSB floor and under my laminate floor with the padding attached. Just wish L.L. would sell this roll in a more variety of sizes. 400 sq ft was just short of covering our whole flooring job. Had to buy another roll just to cover an additional 50 sq ft.

You will need to use a quality supporting cushion for a floating bamboo product.
It is recommended to use a vapor retarder over all substrates before installing the Morning Star Clic flooring.
                                      4. Appropriate underlayments for Morning Star Clic; (Bellawood Premium, Eco Silent Sound, Dream Home Cork 3mm, 6mm, or similar.) Excessive squeaks and gapping can result from too soft an underlayment, an uneven subfloor, excessive high or low humidity, and poor acclimation. Underlayment cushions are optional for glue down installations.

                                      A:

This is a good vapor barrier for over wood subfloor that is over a basement or crawlspace. Generally used for nail down installations it is not a moisture barrier.

Poly sheeting on the other hand is a moisture barrier and should be used only over concrete subfloor for floating floor installation.

Do I need a vapor barrier if I have the bella premium underlayment or does that serve as a vapor barrier too?

Over wood substrates, the Bella Premium underlayment is an appropriate vapor barrier.

What is the R-value of this underlayment? What underlayment should I get for the best R-Value under my hardwood floors as well as block moisture?

Silicone Vapor paper does not have a R- value. Bellawood Premium underlayment has an R-value of .52.

I have a wood subfloor in my kitchen. I plan to lay a 12mm Dream home laminate with attached underlayment. I had lows spots in my floor and used a patching compound on some areas of the floor but not on the entire floor to level it with a max thickness of 1/2" in the lowest spots. I planned to use this silicon paper over the entire surface between the subfloor and the laminate. Is this okay or do I need an additional barrier or surface preparation over the patch areas?

I plan to install 1/2 inch plywood over a 3/4 inch OSB subfloor then install engineered flooring on top of that. Should I install the silicone vapor shield between the OSB and plywood or on top of the plywood under the engineered flooring. Thanks

Use White Silicone Paper as a vapor barrier over your plywood just under the engineered flooring.
