Virginia Mill Works Co.- 3/4" x 5" Windsor Oak-Dark Prefinished Handscraped Solid Flooring- 30 Year Warranty

Colonial American homes were built with wooden floors that were sawn using basic hand-held tools. The hand-crafted workmanship that went into those floors can be found in Virginia Mill Works handscraped floors.

About Handscraped Flooring:
Handscraped or distressed hardwood floors have a natural worn appearance. They look like floors from the days when floors were finished by hand.
Please note this product is a nominal 3/4" thick, but due to its scraping process the thickness may be as thin as 5/8" in the scraped areas.

Exceeding Expectations

      Best Uses

Beautiful floor. Quality seems very good, as our contractor had almost no pieces he couldn't use. It's very quiet to walk on and feels really solid. I don't think you can beat the 30 year warranty on the finish. It seems very durable, and I like that it's not overly shiny so that every scratch and dent is highlighted, like on other wood floors.

        Easier than expected

        By The Bear

        from Santa Maria CA

        Pros

        • Fairly easy installation
        • Nice Finish
        • Variety of lengths

        Cons

        • scratches EASILY
        • Slight Width Variations

        Best Uses

Was surprised at how easy the installation is with the floating underlayment for concrete. Need to be wary of slight variations in width. Mis matches can result in gaps. This looks great in our library and formal living room. Not a lot of traffic thru those ares so I expect it to stand up well.

          Service and delivery comments:

Received our order ahead of schedule. Some of the pieces did have cracks at the ends. Just need to plan where they can be used trimmed to fit

I had installed in kitchen/dining area, living rm, half bath and hall and office. It really looks so much better than the carpet and has made the rooms look larger and cleaner.

We used this for our entire main level of our home. Living, foyer, kitchen, dining, bedrooms. The professional installer said it was one of the nicest and easiest floors he has installed.

I initially was not sure if I would like the handscraped, but having read all of the reviews, I figured that many people couldn't be too wrong? Well, they weren't. The floor is beautiful. Everyone who has entered my home (currently in construction) has commented on the floors - the cabinet guy, trim guy, plumber, etc. Even my husband said they were "amazing" - his usual enthusiam ends at "it's fine." I cannot wait to actually live in the home and have women visit to get a female's opinion. Regardless, I am thrilled.

I can't yet speak to durability. We have 2 large dogs, so I am hoping they do not destroy the floor. We plan to keep their nails trimmed short. We did do the "coin test" and this floor did better than the others I intentionally tried to scratch. We did not put an underlayment down other than felt paper. Several installers told us that we didn't need anything extra.

The folks at LL in Greenville were wonderful! Blake? actually was the one that picked my flooring to match my cabinet sample that I had brought into the store. I also noticed that my floors had gone on sale after I had purchased and had them delivered. I called LL and had an immediate credit posted to my card. We also had very little waste so we ended up with 300 SF left over. I took it back to the store, they unloaded it from the truck and I recieved another credit (minus the restocking fee).
                  Very happy.

                                A:

Do not install solid product's over radiant heat subfloors.Lumber Liquidators recommends floating floors -flooring not attached to the subfloor- for radiant heat applications. To ensure performance, the consumer should be aware of risks associated with nailing or gluing solid wood over radiant heat and ensure product selection and installation practices are appropriate for the application. If you choose to use solid wood, select quarter-sawn or rift-sawn materials. Note that even using solid wood species with known positive dimensional *stability characteristics than others, cannot predictably be guaranteed to perform well in every application. In addition, radiant systems if not monitored and controlled properly can negatively impact the long term finish performance of wood flooring and may result in finish chipping, peeling or hazy finish.

For general cleaning a swiffer type system works best. Not one that sprays the floor however. Lightly damp is fine but never soak or flood mop your floor. Do not use steam mops. Have a no shoes policy as much as possible. Use felt pads on all furniture. Sweep often.

Bellawood Cleaner works very well, find here - http://www.lumberliquidators.com/ll/s/flooring-molding-tools-accessories/floor-care-products

In addition, Bona Kemi makes a decent hardwood flooring cleaner.

Do not use oil-type cleaner of any kind.

This is a solid 3/4" product designed to be nailed to a wood substrate.
But can be installed over concrete using our Elastilon underlayment.
What you should know about Elastilon Strong
An Elastilon-backed wood floor is much faster to install than traditional nail or glue-down methods.
Elastilon Strong can be installed on new concrete floors, handling up to 3.9% moisture content. A vapour barrier of at least 6 mil PE should be used below grade and on newly poured concrete above grade where the moisture content is above 3.9%.
Laid down with a 5/8” (15 mm) expansion gap, Elastilon Strong creates a dynamic, floating floor that expands or contracts naturally with the hardwood.
Elastilon Strong has no odor and is free of volatile materials.
                                Elastilon Strong gives cushioned comfort.
1/8” (3 mm) thick Elastilon Strong has ratings of IIC 62 and STC 54.
                                Thermal resistance: R _ 0,15 (m K) / W
Elastilon Strong carries a 70-year limited warranty. Thank you for your inquiry.

                                SUBFLOOR PREPARATION
Do not install flooring directly over joist without subflooring.
All structural panels/underlayment must be installed sealed-side down, and provide ¾” perimeter spacing. Square-edged or non tongue and grooved panels used as a subfloor will require a minimum 1/8˝ (3 mm) expansion space between all plywood seams.
Panels must meet minimum CDX grade Exposure 1 and US Voluntary Product Standard PS1-95, PS2-04 or Canadian performance standard CAN/CSA 0325-0-92 for construction sheathing. Check underside of panel for codes. Minimum of 3/8˝panel thickness is recommended when used as an underlayment.
Note that joist spacing determines minimum subfloor thickness.
                                • Joist spacing 16” on center (oc)
Plywood: Minimum of (5/8˝) Oriented Strand Board (osb): Minimum (3/4˝, 23/32”) Advantech Minimum (3/4˝, 23/32”)

Plywood: Minimum of (3/4˝, 23/32”) Oriented Strand Board (osb): Minimum of (3/4˝, 23/32”)
                                • Joist spacing over 19.2”up to maximum 24” (oc)
Plywood: Minimum of (7/8”) Oriented Strand Board (osb): Minimum of (1”)
                                • Particleboard or Masonite: is not recommended, remove or cover with 3/8” plywood.
•Avoid pressure treated plywood for interior use as these can have high moisture content and latent with rot resistant chemicals.
