      MAPEI ECO995

      • When Glue Is Only Option

I used ECO995 both to hold down the boards and as a third moisture barrier when building a floating floor of 3/4" maple on backer board over SBS-reinforced roofing material on top of an old garage floor consisting of double 4" concrete slabs. ECO995 is like Liquid Nails in consistency. Don't put it on too thick--floor may not turn out flat. Use strap clamps--but watch how they're affecting elevation of boards. Not too hard to scoop out of can. Working time is good. Very little odor. Easy to clean with putty knife, paper towels and Bostik towels. Use a nail to get it out of cracks between boards. You will lose some product if you store opened can. Put plastic trash bag etc over adhesive to minimize loss. Keep pets out of work area until it's cleaned.

Once this product dries, you will see spots everywhere there was glue, even if you cleaned it up right away. I installed black bamboo, and we had glue smudges everywhere. You may think this is a joke, but Mr Clean Magic Eraser is the only thing we found that works. Lots of elbow grease is needed, but you will be glad you tried it. Mineral spirits, acetone, goo gone etc did not touch it. Get the eraser and finish the job, and save yourself the headache.

Used to glue down 2.5" Bellawood Brazaillian Cherry engineered floors. Read everyone's reviews so I was prepared for the messiness. Also, I was worried about the glue in the bucket drying out overnight so I carefully covered the glue inside the bucket sealing the edges to minimize the air trapped between the plastic and glue as others have suggested here. I used a kitchen trash bag. Then, I used another plastic bag between the lid and the bucket so the lid doesn't glue shut. Worked great, hardly any glue dried up. This is my first glue down project do I don't have any experience with other glues. I would imagine other glues are messy too. But it would be great if the glue didn't dry white. Clear would be ideal. Or wood color would be better than white. The trowel clips it comes with is useless.

I used this adhesive to glue down 5/8" solid bamboo all throught my pier and beam house. It was easy to work with (just don't get any on you!). I would just pour out a little and spread it using a 1/4" notched trowel. I was able to get around 120sq/ft per 5 gallon bucket. I used it on top of 1/4" cement board which was nailed to my 3/4"sufloor. We had a recommendation from a professional not to use the trowel attachment that comes with the glue but to use a 1/4" notched trowel. He said the trowel that comes with the glue, is not ment for "Bamboo". After it cured, we have a solid sounding floor that looks beautiful and the wife and I both love it. Expensive stuff but I would use it again.

Magic Eraser can work very well to remove adhesive in some instances.
Success has also been made with mineral spirits but better is Bostik's Ultimate Adhesive Remover or Mapei Remover followed by a water damp rag to remove the adhesive remover before it can damage the finish. Hand buff. It seems that the remover dilutes the adhesive but when not completely removed the diluted adhesive dries on the finish leaving a residue. Try the remover as described above and repeat as many times that are necessary.

                                Find remover here-
                                http://www.lumberliquidators.com/catalog/section.jsp?categoryId=19

This should work however if it doesn't, Your flooring finish may be etched. I had a customer who had a refinisher come in and lightly screen only 1/16 of the finish off. Then apply a quality flooring grade water-based urethane.

I live in Florida and had a slab leak. The slab was dried out, but when the contractor came in to put in the new floors he found it still wet. Dried out for several more days. To make sure this wet slab is not a problem in the future, what is the best method, float or glue? Do they need to do a membrane first and then use water proof glue or do you recommend another product/installation? Is floating with 6 mil plastic barrier and waterproof barrier (cushion) a better route?

You can prevent the glue from drying up by using a layer of plastic put directly on the surface of the glue in the bucket (should keep for about a month). This is a moisture cured urethane adhesive so sealing the lid tightly is important.

Adhesives require that all old adhesives be completely mechanically removed with a floor scraper or adhesives will fail. Options are float according to flooring manufacturer instructions, lay a plywood subfloor, or use our "Elastilon" as your installation system.
