My contractor picked up the countertop from our local Lumber Liquidators and got to work sanding it and treating it right away. The beautiful color showed itself after the first oiling, but he did 4-5 standings and oilings, moving up to 600 grit for the final sanding. It is just gorgeous. He also cut a foot off the 8' length and made me a huge separate cutting board from that piece! That end piece also is the end with the "Williamsburg Butcher Block Co" stamp and it looks really cool. I love my countertop and the price was very reasonable.

Comments about Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1 1/2" x 25" x 8 lft American Cherry Butcher Block:

Used as countertops in our condo. Very beautiful after a lot of work. It does say unfinished in the listing, but only one side is sanded smooth, the other side is a mess of extruded glue and uneven strips. There are a lot of gaps and cracks on the sanded side filled with a poorly chosen color of filler that doesn't blend well with the wood when a sealer/finish is used, and the filler did not always "fill" the gap. I used a router to bull-nose the front edges, a cherry filler to repair the gaps and cracks, 100, 150, and 320 grit sandpaper on my sander to prepare the surface, and three coates of a food safe finish. I checked "would recommend" but only if your willing to put in the work...

Almost every board butt/end joint had/reqquired filler. I even had to fix some myself. Less noticeable when oiled. But still a center oiece in the kitchen. I used it as a filler in a granite countertop when installing a replacement smaller cooktop.

We bought 3 pieces. One we pieced together at 45 angles finished and hand rubbed to a gunstock finish. We get comments all the time and people can't wait to touch it. We've had it for 6 months and have no issues with hardness or finish.

Comments about Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1 1/2" x 25" x 8 lft American Cherry Butcher Block:

Unfinished there are jagged saw marks, more filler than you would expect for price, and obvious joins on the long visible edge. We chose this over Ikea- twice the price- and expected better out-of-box quality. BUT after we sanded the surface, mineral oiled it all of those visible imperfections were minimized. Joint on front still large and visible, but better than finger joints you would find in less expensive material. The rich cherry color looks great in our kitchen, which is in a house built 1880s-90s. Original cabinets, so the butcher block looks right at home.

Comments about Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1 1/2" x 25" x 8 lft American Cherry Butcher Block:

These butcher block lengths were used as kitchen countertops in a new kitchen - they are a poorly made product due to, what appears to be, terrible quality control. I would suggest thorough overview before accepting them at the store. If you're lucky, the blemishes will be lost where your kitchen sink is cut out or won't be noticeable because your coffee pot will cover them up, etc. - Unfortunately, the people at williamsburg butcher block co have yet to figure out how to make quality butcher block - lots of gaps (and some crazy large ones too) in joints & bright pink filler in a rose colored wood which has to be removed as it looks incredibly incorrect. Still - with a lot of work & some favor, you might get lucky.

If youre doing work benchs or garage work tops - you can't go wrong with this product.

Yes. If it is not big enough, you can join sections together.

                  1) For a good glue edge bond; using a straight edge guide and saw recut 1/2"or so off one side of each.

                  2) For center support and strength; Use a biscuit jointer or doweling jig, then wood glue the edges and bar-clamp until dry, re-sand. Add a beam to the counter to help support the seam joint.
