Comments about Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1 1/2"x 25" x12 lft Maple Butcher Block Countertop:

I install custom cabinetry and needed something 12' for a seat bench. Veneering wasn't an option, laminate wasn't an option, and live-edge was more expensive and would take longer to dry before installation. Everything stated in previous posts was true (wood filler on one side, wood filler will need to be touched up, etc.). The thing I DIDN'T see mentioned was that the factory edges (the 12' sides) are not parallel. Luckily one is straight. The opposite side bows outward by over 1/4". My widths go from 24-13/16 on the end to 25-1/4 at the 8' mark, and 25-1/16 at the opposite end.

Our kitchen needed to be updated and we went with butcher block so they could be usable counters, not just storage space. It has brightened up our kitchen and we did the island as well and our kitchen is beautiful now. We went with the 12 ft so there would not be any seams on the long piece.

Got this on sale - for a 12' piece it was great value. Not the best quality - some wood filler had been used in places, but it worked fine for our laundry room. Given that it's unfinished, you will need to sand and seal the surface. One side is more presentable than the other side, so make sure you look before you install.

This is "unfinished" butcher block. It does have a obvious top and bottom side. Ours required sanding and the ends were not square. With that in mind, it is a great product for the price and with a little work it looks like a much more expensive product. We used a "mineral oil and bees wax butcher block conditioner" as the finish. Save the kitchen sink cutout and use as your cutting board!

After reading the other reviews we looked over our tops very carefully when we picked them up at the store. Construction was decent, joints generally tight, etc but we didn't think to check the width - One of our counters was 25" wide, the other was 25 5/8". Not the end of the world, just something to watch for when installing. Ripping the 5/8 off the edge of the larger one isn't as good a solution as you might think since this leaves you with a strip of less than 1/8 on one side...

I'm wanting to top a stand alone piece in my kitchen (a buffet) so that it's a useful part of the kitchen both for prep and serving. It's around 56 inches long- so- is it ok to cut the piece to length? what specific tips/tools are needed, is it anything different since it's butcherblock and not, say, one solid piece of wood?
                              thanks.

Does this product have a top side and a bottom side or can either side be used? I ask because we will need to cut this to accommodate a corner/turn in my countertop. If I can use either side as a "top" then 1 12 foot block will work. Otherwise, I will have to order additional materials.

                              Thank you, Susan
