Comments about Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1 1/2"x 25" x12 lft Maple Butcher Block Countertop:

I did all the cuts and everything myself. We put a water sealer around the sink and on the underside where the dishwasher is, but everything else is coated with Tung Oil. This product is awesome and I will definitely be looking to purchase this again when I do my next kitchen.

I remodeled my garage so that I could have a counter for doing woodwork. This is a wonderful countertop for a fairly decorative garage.

Comments about Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1 1/2"x 25" x12 lft Maple Butcher Block Countertop:

I used this maple butcher block countertop to make a custom desk. I cut it to 9.5 feet, sanded, and finished it with polyurethane. Then I placed it on 2 pedestal filing cabinet/drawer units, one at each end of the counter. It is plenty sturdy to make the span without support, and it looks great. Plenty of room for computer, printer, telephone, and oodles of work space.

          Service and delivery comments:

Picked it up at the warehouse. It fit -just barely - into my Honda Odyssey van.

Comments about Williamsburg Butcher Block Co. 1 1/2"x 25" x12 lft Maple Butcher Block Countertop:

The select grade maple countertop only has one good surface as the underside has many gaps, missing pieces. The "good" side has many defects such as knots. Nevertheless, it provides a hard smooth surface as a bench top.

              Service and delivery comments:

I picked up from store and the clerks were friendly and helped me to load the very heavy item. It is over 100 lbs.

The counter was near perfect out of the box. Required a little hand sanding. Looks spectacular with a few coats of Howard butcher block oil and conditioner.

Picked up at the store. One guy opened on a Saturday and answered the phone, wrote up orders, answered questions and ran the warehouse! We had to wait a little too long but he results were worth it.

                  • Q:

Is this countertop able to be stained and then apply a finish coat?

                      A:

                      Yes you can.
The top and edges are already sanded; should only need to hit it lightly with 220 grit if there are no imperfections or shipping damage to repair. Maple is medium in the hardness scale, so will not stain as deeply as soft woods (pine), but better than hardwoods (mahogany). but will certainly take stain.
                      Thank you for your inquiry.

                  • Q:

I hope to be able to buy a 12 ft length of your maple butcher block. My master carpenter recommends that for another counter section, which needs a short ell, I buy it pre-made rather than having him put it together. Is it possible for me to get a small sample of your maple butcherblock that I can take to a custom butcherblock manufacturer for matching?

There are several options on sealers for butcher block countertops. To read about these in detail; type "Butcher" here - http://www.lumberliquidators.com/ll/flooring/Flooring101

See - "How can I care for my new Butcher's Block Counter Top?"

Products used to seal and protect Butcher's block counter tops are divided into two simple categories, top coatings or penetrating sealers. Ultimately, the choice of which products to use depends greatly on the intended use of your counter top. Top coatings such as urethanes are more for decorative aesthetics. Penetrating sealers such as Tung nut oil, Linseed or mineral oils seep into the wood preserving and condition it. Penetrating sealers offer more versatile usage of Butcher's block counter tops allowing for safe food preparation, easy repairs and can be buffed to a gloss with a build up of 5 or more layers.

                  • Q:

I'm looking at the 25" wide maple butcher block for a bartop. I need the piece to be 16-18" wide. It doesn't look like any of the butcher block tops are available in that width. Can these be cut length-wise on a table saw or are there any risks of splitting? Would a cut need to be made on a seam within the butcher block?
